Have you been hit in the port yet?
YngGram replied to BillOh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
FEAR YOURSELF FIRST !!!!!!! I tapped myself at exactly 1 week, 2X in less than an hour. Two nights later rolled over onto bunched up blanket during the night and also most kicked husband out of bed. As my tummy swelling went down, my low profile port is setting out like a push button. Now as I lean over the sink or such I get a reminder. -
Hi maxwea, Everything I have tried has worked, I just can't stick with it for very long. I feel that this takes it out of my hands to a degree. Many of us are like that here, so you now have a place to vent, share and learn. I am a little ahead of you, but still new. Hang with us on the journey and we will all be fine.

Pre-Op All Liquid Too Much Protein?
YngGram replied to laurenlee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How in the world did you get that much protein in with just liquids? I would love to know cause I am struggling to get my 60g. Share some of your high protein items, I was on a hgih protein pre-op of slim fast and there is only about 13g in each of those. -
Problem with protein drink
YngGram replied to watermelon_1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used High Protein Slim-Fast Powder with skim milk. I could also use the No Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast. I can't do anything with that now, the taste is off to me since surgery. -
Help - Is This Pain Normal?
YngGram replied to soxaholic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is a plastic device that you use to expand your lungs because when you are sore, you tend to not breath deeply. This helps to keep infection from the lungs. I have had several surgeries and have had to use one each time. We were given one at our nutrition class about 2 weeks before surgery to help start strenghting the lungs and I am to continue use for 2 weeks after. -
a valuable lesson learned
YngGram replied to JENNIFER7375's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hard boiled egg got me this morning! Who would have thought it. I muched on grilled chicken without problem, but that danged egg was on my left breast bone and I felt like I had been punched. I didn't get sick, but I thought, "Now I know why I got to chew!" Keep smiling -
Banded 3/17, need some advice :)
YngGram replied to Manda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats. I got my band on 3/9 Mon, I was up and about quickly; I am 51. My gas showed up on Tues. night. I still have not been hungry. For a few days the stomach is swollen from the surgery, also they pump in gas and I think that causes some of it, and your full feeling. It took forever for me to get down a protein shake that Wed. I had full liquids for a week and found myself a little weak on Sat. Had same on Mon. after starting mushies. You may be like me and don't have any fluid in the band. My doc waits about 4 weeks before a fill to give stomach time to heal. He said I might even gain after starting solids. Get the fluids in and as much of your required protein as you can. Good Luck! -
I am 8 days out from an overnight stay The first thing I noticed was that I weighed more at discharge than I did at admitting! They pumped fluids in during the stay and I was about 6lbs more. It is slowly going down and I seem to have the same instructions as you.

My Scale will Not Budge(What am I doing wrong?)
YngGram replied to daningje's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't forget that muscle weighs more than fat, so if the workout is new, and you are building muscle that could be the reason scale isn't moving. The up side is that I would put money down that you are 'SMALLER', check that tape measure!! GOOD JOB, I haven't gotten to the gym yet, bum ankle. -
Protein shakes - GAG, YUCK, PUKE, EEEEKKKK
YngGram replied to skeeterbait8's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
High Protein Slim-Fast taste better to me than the CIB, I think also has more portein. I have GeniSoy protein powder that is natural but I don't like the way it mixes. I also add 1/3c of dry non fat milk. This with the shakes adds same as an additional cup of skim milk. Works well when you can have oatmeal. Good luck! -
First Day Liquid Diet
YngGram replied to xandriacharlee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
High 5 to the beloved ! My pre-op was a high protein, low carb liver shrink. I got to have lean deli meat 2oz & a shake at dinner or a sandwich with 4oz of meat. It will pass, it is fo your health. Keep hanging, you will do fine. -
Congrats on the band. Your discomfort may be due to simple swelling from the surgery. Do check with the doc but mine said the band would be empty until my first fill at about 6 weeks. I had 1 round of clear liquids to see if I could keep it down. Then I was put on full liquids (Carnation Instant Breakfast, jell-o, juice water); really anything that could pass through a straw, for my overnight. Went home with that for a week, I did slid in some egg drop soup. Now on mushies. I had really thin oatmeal, blended beef soup and a protein shake today. My instructions are to sip, see how it goes down and how I feel, proceed slowly. Good Luck

The sleep deal is real. Many have died from it, you stop breathing in your sleep. It can also cause you to not get rest at night and you fall asleep at the drop of a hat. My husband feel asleep while driving with me in the car. Got tested the next week. Doc. threatened to have hi DL revoked if he didn't.

Protein and the first 2 weeks
YngGram replied to inklot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Follow your docs instructions. We are here to help each other, but the doc knows how he wants things to progress. We are for shared experiences, good luck. -
hello from a newly banded member
YngGram replied to Brie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome and congrats. I am a couple of days ahead of you and my doc let me have full liquids almost right away for a week. Started mushies today--oh boy OATMEAL!!!! Remember creamy soups have lots of cals and fat (whole milk). I grabbed a skinless chicken tenderlion, bullion cube, celery stalk and made my own broth. The can stuff had no taste and it was killing me!!!!! My next joy is egg drop soup. My full liquid is anything that would pass through a straw. I did two weeks of high protein low carb liver shrink diet. -

Fairwell Tour of Bad Foods?
YngGram replied to baylorjai's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I THINK EVERYBODY WANTED TO!! I didn't get my date that far out, but choose to make adjustments to eating style back in Nov. I first cut out the really, really, really Sweet Tea that I drank almost a gallon of daily. Tried out the store brands of Crystal Lite drinks. Worked on smaller portions and then moved into some Meal Replacements. I lost about 15 lbs. from middle of Nov. middle of Feb. I think these changes made the pre-op easier to take, and I am on day 6 of band and haven't been hungry. I gave deep thought to what I really love the most and had a nice Prime Rib dinner (in the middle of pre-op). I have been told we will be able to eat many of the foods we always have, just smaller portions. GOOD LUCK! Niterun -
Hi there, I hit it on the 9th also, CONGRATS! I am lucky, when I passed the upper GI I was put on full liquids. Little tired of the high protein shakes and Carnation Instant Breakfast, but it could be worse. On Wed. I grabbed a chicken tenderloin, some old celery and stuff and made a bowl of broth. I needed a new taste after 2 weeks of pre-op drinks. I can have anything that passes through a straw so Egg Drop Soup has made it in and some smoothies made from skim milk and light yougrt. Good Luck

Just need to vent at how slow this process is.
YngGram replied to justme2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Now that you have vented, clear your head and look at this in the real. Over time 28 lbs. doesn't sound like a lot but.... In reality it is really quite a bit when you take the following into consideration. You are working out hard, you are building muscle and the fact is that muscle weighs MORE than fat (learned that in Marine Corps Boot Camp). So when you replace fat with something heavier your weight loss might not seem as much as it really is! Next, with that muscle you must be tighter in body, check your measurements, try on something that didn't fit 3 months ago, a smaller size than usual; bet you find that you are indeed smaller. I understand that it is hard for us to see the changes that have taken place, take it easy on yourself. If you are following the instructions given you are already healthier and able to do much more than before. I have had my band less than a week (STOP CURSING AT ME!), but... I am down from 240 to 219 today. I starting changing things in Nov., cutting some sugar, eating smaller meals and test driving the liquid replacements. Lost about 15 lbs. before starting the pre-op liver shrink diet. This was high Protein low carb. Hospital fluids had me up to 227 lbs. at discharge, went in at 216 lbs. I am down to 18 jeans from 22, had on a sweater last night that I haven't been able to wear in 4 years. My husband of 31 years actually said, "Damn you look good!" I told only 1 person outside the family because I don't want anyone else making judgments on my progress or lack thereof. I did this for me not them, and if they haven't done it they won't understand it. As another Nov. baby I know you got all the strength you need to do everything you want to; you have already done so much! Niterun -
This is a different kind of hunger...
YngGram replied to oyesican's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is day 6 for me and my mind, my tummy and reality don't seem to be on the same page. I can have anything that would go through a straw. I think I over indulged on Thurs. still not sure. I haven't felt hunger, upper or lower, and I am pushing myself to get the Protein shakes in. I am also pushing for the fluids; other than a dry mouth I don't even think about Fluid. It seems easier to just do Water or the Popsicles than the shakes, which I know I need for the protein. Yesterday I felt "off" so I made sure to add some powdered milk to my first shake and later had a protein bullet. That gave me the 60g of protein but I still have to push for the carbs to keep weakness at bay. It's 1:00 and I have only had one shake and a few sips of water. I have the stupid chest bubble so I feel like nothing else can go in yet. Never thought I would be trying to get food into me! The weight is coming off but I don't want to be weak so I will keep working on this. Niterun -
I understand! I gave into Prim Rib on the 1st with surgery schueld for the 9th. The plan had been to have it before I started the pre op diet but couldn't get it then. The first question I had for the doc after surgery was, "How was my liver?" I knew he had done the surgery so the question was really kind of dumb, but I was worried. I did it, but DON'T!! The guilt is awful.

5 day post-op dry gas heaving...
YngGram replied to mom2twoboysinfl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kerrie, This is a wild and crazy ride for sure. I also got my band on Mon., have felt great everyday, went out every night. Woke up this morning not feeling "right", had my 8 oz breakfast drink with dry nonfat milk added for extra Protein. I was light headed and felt weak in upper body. Had to sit and rest, took in a protein bullet, took BP meds and sipped lemon Water. Feeling better now. Gas-X helps some, and I walk room to room to ease the air pockets, also take deep breaths to keep that stuff moving. I can burp and that helps, but moving my leg wrong at night will wake me right up with the jab. Sip as best you can and take plenty of time with all of it. Stay strong, we will get where we need to be. Surgery added about 7lbs. with the fluids they pumped into me, so don't forget to add that in. This time is for healing I have been told so don't worry about the numbers yet. Get the protein and fluids in, use a heating pad on the tummy it calms mine down. I also sip a hot citrus green tea at night. I was told that pills the size of an M&M were OK, I cut my BP meds cause it is large but with the way I felt earlier I just took the thing and crossed my fingers. -
I was told it is from the gas that is pumped in for the surgery, however I have not experienced this (yet). Niterun
-
That's the only way I can go to sleep. Nurse put a pillow at my back in the hospital so I could, haven't had any problems doing so at home. CONGRATS! Niterun
-
First, GOOD LUCK! I am 5 days out from my overnight, my robe was the most important to me. They will have you walk in the halls and sitting up as much as possible and the hospital tends to be chilly. something to read, and the usual toiletries. Pull on pants (loose), button shirt, slip on shoes/slippers. Many say a small pillow for ride home but my husband bought the big one so I didn't use it. Get what ever pain meds doc prescribes (if you can) at the hospital pharmacy. For home, chewable vitamins, sugar free Popsicles (great for fluid count)this helps with the dry mouth, get some of the one ounce cups from your room for sipping. Sipping was hard to learn for me. I am on liquids for a week and can have Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar) with skim milk, HIGH PROTEIN Slim Fast, Sugar Free Jell-O, strained soups (not creamy). I also got a heating pad, ice bag (used neither), liquid Tylenol and GAS-X. They pump gas into you for surgery and it moves around inside feeling like you swallowed to much air:tt2:. I can burp so that helps but move often, if I sit for more than 10 or so minutes I get a big bubble; so I just go from room to room. I would also make sure I had any meds I take on hand for at least a few days. Again good luck! Niterun
