What can't you eat??
YngGram replied to southernbelle13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, for me it seems to change (don't know why) something will go down at lunch but not at dinner. About 2 weeks after surgery I didn't chew well on a hardboiled egg, not nice. I eat them over med. but not scrambled, I can barely stand to cook em. I can eat grilled, roasted, & baked chicken, but if it is chunky bites I can't do it. Some dinner rolls are fine, but I try to only have well toasted bread (if any) Rice is ok, but all veggies must be well done or I can't get them down. Beef works for me, steak & prime rib work as long as I chew. A yam is fine, but a white potato is 3lbs. no matter what. -
6 months post and had a 5 hr flight couple of weeks ago. No problems on flight, next day I felt a little more restriction and same with the return.
-
I can also eat popcorn but if you can't and still want the taste try Quaker Mini Delights Popcorn flavor. It's not the same but close enough to make me happy. If I do a mini bag of popcorn, I want to do two! These snack bags of rice cakes work well for me.

Hit a plateau for months now.... arggg
YngGram replied to hersheymalone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sitting on the plateau also. My restriction is good, I am doing mindless eating. I know I don't want or need it, I just eat it. Early on I must have been more motivated because I didn't have a problem passing on something, now I look for stuff to eat just because. I can't get my head back into this and I am really very upset with myself. I got under 190 and into a size 12 jeans. I WAS DONE!!! That wasn't the plan, but my sub seems to think so. NO matter what I tell myself when I go to bed about what tomorrow will be it just doesn't happen. If I can get to 184 and hold it for a few days I would be on top of the world again. -
For about a month I have been taking Aloe Vera and B6, they are for metablism and digestive health. The bleching (which is not the real problem) and the other calmed down. I get it a WalMart.

Can anybody tell me why this happened?
YngGram replied to AmyNsaint's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to say it, but it will happen again. What tiggers it for me has been different each time. One forkfull to many, time of day, not chewing well, or eatting to fast. I have eaten something for lunch that won't go down at dinner. I flew recently and the second day I couldn't eat. This week I can't comfortably eat until I have been up a couple of hours, this is new. I find if I can get to the restroom or side of the road most recently, stand up straight and cough I can get enough slime up to get relief. I will be at Walgreens soon to get the product restless mentioned. -
Help Needed from Banders!
YngGram replied to RebeccaJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are ONLY burping you are lucky! Some of the gas comes from the surgery, I think the rest is just from the "new" slow way you are digesting your food now. I am a gas factory and my husband finds it really funny. I was banded in March and it is just starting to get better. I recently started taking B6 and Aloe Vera, they help with metabolism and digestion. I try to always have some type of gas pill with me because I can get gas from iced tea! You are doing the right thing, walking was a lifesaver for me. I was up in the middle of the night just walking in the house to get relief. Keep up the good work, follow what the doc says. -
Need advise please
YngGram replied to I'mwiththeband2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is much swelling after surgery, I had it for almost 3 weeks. When it went down I could tell I could eat more. I got a fill at about a month and felt that change too. I was having problems at strange times with different foods and I didn't want a second fill. I could slowly eat a 16oz prime rib. I got the second one about 2 weeks ago, no problems with any food yet. I get full on the small amount and I am staying full. Had dinner couple of hours ago, I don't even want my water. Eat the right amounts, and drink, drink, drink. Wait for the suggested time to start drinking, but it will help you feel fuller longer. -
I SO want to eat MORE!
YngGram replied to willowcat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I starting using a smaller plate before surgery and it really does help. I just had my second fill about 2 weeks ago and I can't believe the difference it has made. I am at 5.2cc's and the change is unreal. I was eating so much more than I should and I couldn't tell when it was enough. I WILL NOT weigh every meal because I don't want to be a slave to the band. Not only can I get the "full" sign on time, I stay full. It took almost 2 weeks for me to be able to read it, but Ihad dinner about 2 hours ago and I still feel to full for Water. I just don't want anything else. I do have problems with the thought of eating even when I'm not hungry, late night nibbling. Listen to yourself, slow down and take your time eating. Fix your plate and only eat that amount. Maybe you haven't reached your "sweet" spot. Stick with it and believe in you. -
2 months post-op, 1 fill, still not working
YngGram replied to tophermiller's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got my second fill today .6cc, total is now 5.2cc. I really didn't feel restriction and was schocked to learn that I had some in at surgery. I had lost 20lbs. since the mid April fill. On Mon. I ate a 16oz. prime rib without a moment of trouble.(really needed that fill) Funny thing is that I just admitted to myself that I was just flat out overeating. I wasn't hungry between meals beacuse I ate to much at meals. When I tested myself by measuring out the 4oz of food I was allowed, I found out I was full and didn't get hungry before time to eat again. You might want to try measuring your food, use a food log or calorie counter and make sure you are getting in the full amount of fluids; that helps with hunger. You might also limit the amount of time for eating and eat ONLY what is on your plate. If you feel restriction, STOP!!! Think of your choices, they might have more calories than you think. -
Banded today and I have GAS PAINS! HELP!
YngGram replied to NinaC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well the good news is that you have your band; bad news...nothing helps with the gas but time. Try Gas-X and just walk. I moved around the house from room to room 3 or 4 times an hour, just to move, that seemed to help keep it from building up on you. It woke me in the middle of the night the first two nights I was home. It does get better, I got my band in March and still get gassy after eating. What you have now is from what they pump in during surgery so it's around your stomach not in and that's why the gas-x doesn't really work that well. -
I renewed my military ID couple of weeks ago and I am below the weight I LIED about 4 years ago when I got it!!:thumbup:

How long after swallow do u know ur stuck?
YngGram replied to jlray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I am truly stuck, I get hit within a minuet or two. If I just didn't chew well, it's a build up process. I fell the heavy sensations, I burp and burp to try to move the food around in there; sometimes it helps. Up to an hour later I am gagging and then the slime. Either one and the meal is over. Funny I can eat a chicken breast just fine, but chunks of chicken in a salad don't work. -
Anyone else banded with no fill?
YngGram replied to greta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have a fill at surgery, and have only had one so far. It was at 4 weeks out and I don't know how much they put in, but it was a small amount. I have slimmed, bp'ed, and gotten stuck! I have a major fear of all of these and am holding back from another fill. If I take my time I can get lots of food down. I just realized about a week ago that I eat what's on my plate. So . . . . measure it, eat only that and I feel fine. Hunger has not been an issue for me. I started out at 240, surgery early March and I am at 188 now. I am so very pleased with how I feel and look. I am bad with some of my choices, what and how much. The other thing for me is that I must LISTEN to my body. When it says full, STOP, when it says slow down STOP!!!! If I did what I should, another 10-15 lbs. would already be gone. -
Is this a "stuck" episode
YngGram replied to comtemplating's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I call it ""PAY ATTENTION STUIPD"!! I get this when I don't chew a enough, or swallow without thought. It has happened with a hard boiled egg! Wasn't paying attention because it was just an egg. Took to much at once and it was on. This was my first experience at about 2 weeks out. It was nothing like getting stuck although I didn't think anythin couyld be worse. It is like a burp that won't come up for me. Hurts for a few minuets and then passes. Getting stuck is real pain that goes on until you get the food/slime up. I sweat, can't breath and it is very painful. I can eat something for lunch without problem and the same food will get stuck at dinner, The other night I ate to much by one forkfull, that was new. I must cough until I can spit up the problem. -
6 days post op and starving
YngGram replied to tehchaymommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
EGG DROP SOUP!! I am really glad that I had more wiggle room. Came home on full liquids, so if it was smooth I could have it. Also, I could have ozs. of stuff, but your plan should get you really going, hang in there and pump in the liquids, they should help keep the hunger at bay. -
Depressed! Only lost 8 lbs so far
YngGram replied to volleymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
keep it simple, remember that 1-2 lbs per week is great! follow the instructions you have been given and it will come together. measure you food, get your liquids in, relax and let the tool work. -
How to explain THIS one??!
YngGram replied to HelloSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny, I had this same talk with the nurse today. I had something for lunch that wouldn't go down at dinner, another day I had something get stuck at lunch that I had eaten without problem the day befor. Because of this I don't want a second fill. Getting stuck is just the worst and I want to avoid it at all costs!!! I haven't been hungry between regular meals. Most mornings I don't "eat", I have protein drink or just a swiss miss mocha. I start my day with a glass of water and then the mocha, eat about 3 hrs. later. I have late nights, so my days start around 10 or 11 my first meal is usually lunch. I don't call what happens throwing up because it's just slime or foam. Since I am taking off about a 1 1/2 lbs. weekly, and I don't have hunger issues I have decided to wait on a fill. She questioned me about the dryness of the foods I've had problems with. I haven't had any food that I couldn't eat, at least the first time I've tried it. Prime Rib, Ribeye and Tbones are fine for me, sirloin and NY Strips just don't work. Chicken, tuna and shrimp are OK. Fish would work fine I guess I just can't eat it broiled! I keep trying and everytime I fix it, I can't get it into my mouth. -
My Head Has Hit A Wall!!! (LONG)
YngGram replied to YngGram's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the artical was right on time. BINGO!!! i knew i was doing it to myself, this should help me work on why. thanks bunches. i haven't been logging the food just because i already know it's to much. not doing to bad today, but it is still early, i am taking it hour by hour also trying to stay busy. back up to 199.5 this moring, hope next week i will be down to 197, fingers crossed!! -
I say my head because I am doing things I know I shouldn't. I got may band on 3/9/09. By Mother's Day I was a size 14 down from a 22. I had lost about 30lbs and I was very pleased with the way things were going. I had a fill on 4/13 and didn't have much trouble with any food as long as I chewed well. I wasn't hungry and I was easily making the good choices. I was so happy when I was finally under 200lbs for the first time in almost 25 years! NOW I have had two bad weeks in a row. The crazy thing is that June was supposed to be my "jump off" month. I have a trip planned in the middle of Aug. and I wanted to get another 15 or so pounds off by then. I keep eating, not hungry I just keep eating. I don't know why, I eat and then eat again and then I eat again. I also find myself grazing. I am not hungry at these times, I am just doing it. I don't seem to know how to stop myself. It is as if my head doesn't want any part of this any more. For that reason I don't want another fill, I don't think I need one since I'm not having trouble getting full. Each night I go to bed telling myself that tomorrow will be the day I get it back together, but it's just not happening. How do I get past this craziness?

Anyone else out there OK with losing slowly with an unfilled or small filled band?
YngGram replied to coloradobanding's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I join you. I have had one fill, not sure how much. I can eat most things as long as I rembemer to take my time, when I don't life changes very fast. I don't like it and I don't want another fill to make that PBing more of an issue. I am loosing steadily and I don't want my life to be only about what I can't eat. I have lost 43lbs so far, choices haven't been great lately but since I know that I can work on it. Glad to hear about others like me. -
I have sent you some meal ideas from my book, I have a few more if none of these work for you. My doc has me pushing for about 60 grams of protein daily. These can be mixed and matched as your taste require. I can't eat string cheese do I did a lot of yogurt and I still use Slim-fast or the CIB because I don't "eat" breakfast.

I had gone a lot longer than that. Band went on 3/9, had fill on 4/13 on the 15th I started. I thought it would just be spotting. NOT!!! 4 days of something that hadn't happened in 6 years. There had been spots but not a full cycle. Then on the 15th of the next month I had all the side effects. Cravings and bloating and back pain. I can't wait to see what happens in the next week.
