Amourette, whatever you do, don't back out. This will be the best thing you can do for yourself. I am 4 days post-op and feeling great. I did not have the gas pains everyone is having and I didn't feel nauseous at all. I still have no appetite, but no complaints there. I am still having a hard time drinking water, or crystal light... I can do unsweetened ice pops for the "water", but can't drink anything... it makes me burp too much. As for food, I tried to have a sweet potato mushed up last night (no skin), and it did not sit well, hurt going down. Tonight I tried some farina made with skim milk and kept it pretty loose, almost soupy. It went down much better. I also tried having 1 egg (egg beaters) this morning scrambled and tolerated that well too. If you have confidence in your doctor, confidence in the hospital, and confidence in yourself, all will go well. There were bets in my family that I was going to chicken out of the surgery, but I didn't. I thought to myself, I am not going to suffer through 12 days on a liquid diet, drinking protein shakes, and then back out... no way. Just keep thinking to yourself that all will be well, you are going to feel great... and will be on your way to a new life. By the way... I had the surgery on Tuesday, 4/4... it is Sat 4/8... and I am down 6 lbs.

Iziksmom, I definitely would like one too... I don't care about the wording, but banded and beautiful sounds good to me....

I had my band put on on Tuesday (4/4). I too was sent home with self-dissolving sutures with a gauze covering and clear covering over that. i was able to take a shower right away. I have a 2 week post-op scheduled for follow-up and then a 5 week post-op for my first fill and swallow study.

Thanks Roberta for the info on the water... I have been trying to sip all day... have done a little better today... maybe will be able to get more in tomorrow... surely don't want to be back in the hospital hooked up to IV... my little shy veins can't take that!!!!

I was banded on 4/4/06. I plan on going back to work on Monday, 4/10. I have a desk job, but do a lot of running around in my job. I too have had a pretty good recovery, but am very tired and my bra too is rubbing against an incision. I will go to work on Monday and maybe work limited hours... we'll see. I'll keep you posted. I was happy to see how many people were on the 100+ list. I was a little disappointed when leaving my doctor's office with them telling me... you need to be 135 lbs, however, we see that with the lap band, you will realistically be 200 lbs. I was saying to myself... what am I going to go through this for? Well, I guess it's better to be 200 than it is to be 300+ so I went ahead with being banded. I just read this thread 2 days post-op and am encouraged that I will make my goal, which is 150 lbs. Yvonne

Thank you Roberta for the well wishes. Audra, I too feel like there is a ball sitting on top of my stomach, even while taking the liquid pepcid. Also, are you having trouble getting down all the water you are supposed to be drinking??? I have no appetite whatsoever (boy never thought I would complain about that... lol), so I am not thinking about the eating and drinking... I am lucky to get a pint of water in me... Yvonne

Well, I am 2 days post-op. The surgery went well. I did not have any nausea or vomiting, however, I have absolutely no appetite, so it is hard for me to eat what I am supposed to. I also feel like whatever I am eating is getting stuck. Sleeping is also not easy for me. I have a hard time sleeping at night, laying down in bed... I am a side sleeper... can't sleep on the left because it bothers me where my port is, can't sleep on the right cause I have an incision on the right side. Other than that, I feel good. I have my post-op check up in 2 weeks and my swallow study in 5 weeks and that is when I am supposed to have my first fill. Starting Weight: 311 Weight prior to surgery: 289 2 days post-op: 287 Goal: 150

What kind of protein dink is everyone drinking?
Sugar1 replied to willybe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I started drinking Optifast from my surgeon. It comes in Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry. It comes in a juicebox. I purchased the vanilla and chocolate. They tasted just about passable, but I put it in a blender with some ice and it improved the taste drastically. I like the chocolate better than vanilla, but the vanilla is good for a switch. It was, however, EXPENSIVE. I have to drink 5 of these drinks a day and each case came with 72 drinks. I purchased 2 cases and it cost me $130.00. This, however, is the only drink that my surgeon wants his patients to drink prior to and for 2 weeks after the surgery. -
With the liquid diet they make you live on the week before... losing 10 lbs will be easy. I have been on it 6 days and lost 7 lbs

I will be having my surgery on April 4th. This is my first time here. I am excited, scared, worried!!! I have done all my pre-op testing, have seen the surgeon (next time we see each other will be in the OR), am now on the liquid diet (OPTIFAST -- TASTES GREAT AS A SHAKE). Can't wait to feel better and have more energy. Carrying around all this weight for so long has been awful. Ahhh... better days are around the corner.

Ok, so this is new to me. I am being banded in 6 days. I have been doing the liquid diet for 6 days now plus for a week before, I really watched what I was eating, substituting 1 meal with Slimfast and having yogurt and fruit for Breakfast. Prior to starting the liquid diet, I lost 9 lbs and have lost 7 lbs so far on the liquid diet and still have 6 days to go. I have to say that I am worried that I will feel hungry after the surgery. I have a friend who had the band done and has had all sorts of problems from slippage to hernias. She has also gained 40 lbs since her surgery (she had it 3 years ago). I am worried that this will also happen to me.:nervous The doctor tells me that after surgery I can expect to lose 1 to 2 lbs per week... is this the average? That's awfully slow if it is, especially since you are eating so much less!!!! I would like to know what others have experienced. Thanks! 311/295/140???
