Gone for Good Club - July 2006

I had such a horrible day yesterday. My baby brother is getting married in September and I decided to go try on dresses for the wedding. While all of the dresses I tried on were a size 18... and I haven't seen an 18 in a long time (considering I started at at 28/30/32), I thought it was great, however, everything I tried on looked horrible. My arms are so flabby and I didn't want to get a dress with those see-thru jackets. I left the store after trying on 10 dresses so depressed that I will have to wear a fuddy-duddy dress. I was hoping to wear something with a wow factor, especially since there will be so many people who saw me just before I started this journey and haven't seen me since. Oh, well, thought I would just vent here, sorry to go on and on..... Yvonne

April 2006 Bandits June Gab Fest

Well, I haven't been on this thread in a while. It looks as though we are all doing really well. I went to my doc yesterday and had a .1 cc fill. Still not really getting restriction (or so I think), but the doc doesn't want to fill me anymore. He said that I have lost too much weight too fast. I have been banded since 4/4 and have lost 72 lbs. He explained to me that most people lost 40% of their excess weight the first year and I have already done that... three months post-op. All of my blood tests have come back normal and I feel great. Because I don't think I have enough restriction, I am petrified about going on vacation. I am so scared that I will gain weight while away. The doc thinks I need to attend a support group because in his words I am "obscessing" about my weight loss. I am not obscessing about it, but I don't want to have gone through all this hard work and the pain of the surgery, etc. to have it not work and to begin gaining weight again. Do I have a distorted view? I would love to hear what you all think. NOTE: THERE IS A MISTAKE IN MY SIGNATURE -- I HAD A .1 CC FILL ON 7/6, NOT .2

Gone for Good Club - July 2006

Ok, so I forgot to weigh in and post yesterday, but did it this morning. Stayed the same since my prior posting 3 days ago. Amy had asked if I could post a bit about myself. I am 42 years old, married for 17 years, have 2 children -- 1 boy and 1 girl. They are twins, 11 years old. I was banded on April 4th, just 2 weeks before my birthday. I am a full time office manager and paralegal for a law firm about 1/2 hour from my home. I absolutely love my band. Life was beginning to get tough with my weight. I had high blood pressure, was vitamin D and K deficient, and 2 weeks prior to my surgery, I was diagnosed with diabetes. I had terrible pain in my knees and had awful heel spurs which hindered me from doing any type of walking. I am happy to say that life is much better. The blood pressure has been under control for 10 weeks now, and I am off the medications. The diabetes is gone, I no longer have pain in my knees and my feet feel soooooooooooooo much better. I am so glad I had the band, and so are my husband and children. I can finally enjoy life with the kids and do things with them. Anyway, enough about me. I am glad to be part of the GFG club and look forward to the support of others, and hopefully I can be of some support to someone out there. Yvonne

    April Bandits 2006 May talk

Amourette and Eflica... I am now 7 weeks post-op and I was told that you should not expect great weight loss until your first adjustment. Once you have a fill, the weight should start to drop more. You will not lose a lot of weight until you have reached your point of restriction. I just had my 2nd fill today. After the first fill, I still noticed that my food intake was getting larger, so they decided that I was not restricted enough and did another adjustment today. I had 1.2 cc's the first fill and .7 cc's today. Don't be down about your weight loss. Not everyone loses a lot in the beginning. Just keep it up and it will come off.
  14. Please update me. Currently: 311/289/257/150 - 54 total

    Itchey stitches and a rash

I am 5 weeks post-op and still have rashes around one of my incisions from the bandage. I was at my doctor's on Thrusday and was told I definitely had a reaction to the adhesive.
  16. Congrats on your graduation and your weightloss. Looking forward to hearing that you have hit onederland too. Many accomplishments for you! Congrats.

    Bowel Movements

Alicia, I have had problems with bowel movements since I started my pre-op diet. I am now 5 wseeks post-op and still having problems. I have absolutely no sensation to go. I take benefiber every day, but once a week, I have no choice to take exlax and it takes 4 of them to have a bowel movement. I have spoken to the doctor and the nutritionist about it and they told me that once my body gets used to having such small portions, I will become normal again. i can't wait. They also told me to keep taking the benefiber, keep drinking and hopefully it will become mroe regular. I hope that helps.

    April 2006 Bandits

Ok, so all along I have been telling people that I have had absolutely no problems with my band... no vomiting, no pb's, etc. Well, on Thursday I had my first fill. 1.2 cc's. I was supposed to be on full liquids for Thursday and Friday and then soft solids Saturday and Sunday. Well, tonight, I tried going out to dinner. We ordered buffalo wings as an appetizer. I wanted to have one. Well, I forgot to chew well and I bit it with my teeth instead of cutting the chicken. Well, I don't need to tell you the pain I had and then had a vomiting episode. It was horrible and i never want to experience that again. I guess there is a reason why you have to eat liquids and soft solids for a few days after a fill. I am scheduled for another fill in 2 weeks. Can't wait!!! (NOT). Anyway, just thought I would experience that experience with you all. My lesson... never say never, and CHEW, CHEW, CHEW.
  19. My doctor also told me that he does not look for much weight loss until the first fill.

    April 2006 Bandits

Hi everyone. I haven't been able to get on in a while but wanted to update you guys and also congratulate everyone who was banded in April. I had my first post-op visit a week ago and it went well. My surgeon was happy with my weight loss so far. He said that normally, people don't lose a lot of weight before getting their first adjustment. At that point I had lost 16 lbs. I have not had any nausea, no pb's, no slimes, no vomiting. It has all been good. Starting Tuesday I can start to eat solid foods as I will be 4 weeks out. I have begun to eat tunafish and that goes down okay. I feel like I am turning into a mouse with all the cheese I have been eating too!!! So far the total weight loss since surgery is 21 lbs. I feel great! One suggestion for everyone... make sure you take it easy for the first six weeks... no heavy lifting. I lifted a printer in my office and carried it from one end of the office to the other, and I have an aching/soreness in the port area since.

    April 2006 Bandits

Great to have you in the "family" Yoda!!! You will be having your surgery the day before my birthday!!!
  24. I decided to tell my friends and family. I am not embarrassed by being banded, as a matter of fact, I am proud of the fact that I made the decision to lose weight, eat healthier, and lead a more healthy life. I do have a friend who had the surgery three years ago, and she too told everyone who either asked or she felt were here friends... and family too. She does feel like people are keeping an eye on her and watching her every move when it comes to food and losing weight. As for me, I don't care if people are watching me, I know I will win this battle with the help of my banded tool and they can watch me do it. So, YODA, it is your personal choice.
  25. Recently on the news they were talking about people who had the bypass (gastric) who were severely deficient in Vitamin A losing their eyesight. I supposed if we all keep taking our vitamins, and have our vitamin levels checked regularly, we should be okay.
