Banded on 9/25/08 - Am I supposed to feel so rotton?
MississippiGirl replied to kimyflan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just banded yesterday, but I also was told that with a liquid diet expect liquid bowel movements. They also sent me home with some nausea medicine and said take it at the first instance of feeling naseous so I wouldn't puke. -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!
MississippiGirl replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
KarenK, Thanks! Right now I am happy how everything has went. Today I did feel some hunger pains...which is why I am up this late eating a jello cup. The nurse had me out of the bed around 3 (went into surgery around 9:30 a.m.) , I walked around the block of the floor "just made the loop" every hour on the hour from 3 until 8. I see you only have 1 more day until your surgery! It is going to go great! I will be praying for you! -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!
MississippiGirl replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone. I was banded Monday morning at 9:30. I decided to stay the night because I live 4 hours away from the hospital. The doctor said everything looked great. My liver was good, I did good on my pre-op 2 week liquid diet. Which I do recommend. I think it helped me prepare for the 2 week post op diet. I can't imagine those who didn't have to do the 2 week pre-op to have that "initial shock" they must have afterwards. In my opinion it is a great prep! I was also thankful I didn't have the hernia so hopefully my recovery will be pretty fast. I feel great. I'm a little sore and have a little gas, but other than that I feel wonderful. I definitely recommend the getting up alot and walking. It really helps! Good Luck to everyone! I'll keep you posted. Mississippi Girl -

Gosh I hope that's not true--I use Dr. Byars which they are in the same office. What I was told is they only do it at the hospital IF they have complications finding the port at the doctor's office. I think the fill is 150.00 dollars. -
Well the first day i was on my liquid diet, I also woke up with a sinus infection so I felt horrible. I went to the doctor to get some meds and by day 3 the headache was gone. i couldn't really specifiy whether it was from not eating or from the sinus infection....but by day 3 I didn't have a headache and I haven't had one unless I skip my slimfast optima shake which I have to drink at each meal time. You can do anything for two weeks...just keep thinking how good you are going to look! and I do feel healthier and feel like I have a lot more energy.

I'm With The Band: Hang in there! I'm on day 10 of the liquid diet...it gets better on day 3. Your stomach will shrink a little and you get all of the "bad food" out of your body you won't have the cravings as bad. The only thing I'm missing is the chewing action. But I've lost 16 lbs in 10 days...not to shabby! -

In response, I will say the first two days were absolutely horrible for me....since then it has gotten so so much easier. Especially when you see some pounds coming off and you get all those "bad" foods out of your system you lose the craving. The only thing I am missing is chewing food. I drink a slimfast optima for breakfast, lunch, and supper. I eat sf popsicles, jello, koolaid, water the rest of the time. I can have chicken broth, but I'm not a big fan of it! You can do this! I've lost 16lbs in like 9 days and already feeling like I have way more energy than I used to. My husband normally did all the cooking for our family because I never felt like it after work, well it is ironic now that I can't eat I have the energy and have been cooking their meals! Just be optimistic and say "I can do anything for two weeks!!" Just set some mini goals.... Good Luck! -

Ruby124, From what I have gathered from reading everyone's posts it really depends on your doctor. My doctor has me on a two week liquid diet prior to the day of surgery. Others I've read get to do atkins or have a couple of shakes and a lean cuisine. I also think it depends on your weight and if he wants you to lose any before surgery. My doctor's goal was to get my bmi to under 50 before surgery...which thankfully I've just gotten under. Is there someone you know that has used your doctor? You could even call the office and I'm sure someone would give you an round about answer at least! Congratulations on your surgery date!! I know you are stoked about it! You'll do great! Hope I helped shed a little light....but I'm a newbie and don't know a whole lot! -
Newbie from Mississippi: Surgery in 8 days...
MississippiGirl posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Ya'll, Just wanted to say I'm really loving this forum. I have been reading posts for several months and finally had time to stop and register to be a member. I will be banded on October 6, 2008. I have done all my pre-work for the surgery. I am currently on my 2 week liquid pre-op diet which consists of 3 SlimFast Optima shakes a day; and all the sugar-free popsicles, Jello, tea, crystal light, and Water I can stand! Doesn't that sound YUMMY!! I've done pretty good, but I have cheated a few times with grilled chicken. This is starting my second week and I'm going to try hard not to cheat at all. I would really like to lose 25 lbs before surgery. I've lost 13 so far...so maybe I will be able to do it! Please say a prayer for me....I'm excited; but nervous! Thanks for being such a great support system already! -
Newbie from Mississippi: Surgery in 8 days...
MississippiGirl replied to MississippiGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for the advice! Gosh it must have been awful to have to go through everything again.... So far, I haven't cheated at all this second week! Only 6 more days until surgery and I'm sooooo ready. I definitely will stick to the post op diet....Just from fear of having it not work...I'm a self pay and can't imagine if I did something to mess it up. Plus I'm flying out of town 2 weeks after surgery so I better healthy enough to fly b/c the tickets are nontransferrable! From your ticker it looks like you are doing fantastic! Congratulations 41 pounds is a big deal!! Keep up the good work! Thanks for welcoming me! -

Renita 13lbs is great! You will definitely lose more now that you are doing the Protein Shakes. I'd kill for a lean cuisine right about now!! I will try to find the Smashing Pumpkins--what a cute name! Thanks! -

Congratulations Cindy!! That is a good amount! I know you are excited. Hopefully I'll be as successful as you have been during your first month. Definitely looking forward to getting that month over with!! Actually, I really wish I could fast forward at least a year from now....i'm sick of this liquid diet! Good Luck to you! -

I am also from Mississippi. I live in Brookhaven, but will be banded in Oxford by Dr. Byars. I felt really comfortable with him and plus a friend of mine was banded by him a month or so ago. Renita, I weigh a little more than you (341 when I started), but I must say I've only been on this liquid diet for a week and lost 13lbs...just stick with it and you'll be having your surgery before you know it! I will have mine October 6--Just 8 days on the count down and can't wait. I have been a "plus" size all my life, but the final shove was finding out I was a diabetic....so had a meltdown; got a hold of myself; found the money b/c BCBS of MS is worthless; and called Dr. Byars!
