2nd Fill...Too Restricted? What do you think? Begging for you to Respond!!
MississippiGirl posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went yesterday and got my 2nd fill; my first was over 3 months ago. The first fill I got was 4 cc's in a 10 cc band. When I went yesterday some had been absorbed and he put that back in plus 1 cc so i'm up to 5. I drank a few sips of Water in the office and felt ok. A little while later I keep burping and hiccupping and/or doing a combo of the two. All I can do is get a couple of sips of water and I feel so tight in my chest and again start the small burps and hiccups... I have a friend who said to stick with the liquids like i'm supposed to for a couple of days and eventually it will get better. What is ya'lls opinion? Should I go and get some taken out or wait it out a day or two? BTW I drive 4 hours one way to get a fill! Please Please Respond...Any Help Will be Greatly Appreciated! -

Thanks Kiz...I just got off the phone with the nurse. She said to give it a few days that since I was getting the Water down I should be okay and it will loosen up some soon. She said to try drinking warmer liquids that might help. I'm suppose to call her back tomorrow with an update! But it still makes me nervous!! Thanks for Responding! -

$700 fills in Oxford, MS!
MississippiGirl replied to hopefulmom25's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded in October by Dr. Byars who is in the same office with Dr. King. I paid 14,500 for the surgery (self pay) the first fill is in this cost...I actually had my second fill TODAY and it was $100.00. Dr. Byars does his fills right in the office. I don't know why they would want you to go the hospital if nothing was wrong. In the consult I was told that would only be necessary if he couldn't find my port. You might want to call and ask about Dr. Byars. Hope this helps! -

Thanks NRPNRP! It's just hard when I know if I would get motivated and stick with it that it could have been 60 lbs already! -

Congratulations on the Baby! How did you lose all that weight so quickly?? I have not lost any weight really in the last two months. I'm going for a fill next Tuesday..hopefully it will help and re-motivate me. I have a four year old now and I want to lose 50 more lbs by October which would put me at 250 and trying to get pregnant. I would love to be 200 but I don't know if I could lose a hundered by october :-) I'm 5'8 so I've got tall on my side! Again congrats and keep us posted! Mississippi Girl -
Exercising...but Gaining??
MississippiGirl replied to MississippiGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the information so far! I did a little research on the Internet and the following is an excerpt from Chalene Johnson's Blog Spot The temporary weight gain explained: When someone starts a new exercise program, they often experience muscle soreness. The more intense and "unfamiliar" the program, the more intense the muscle soreness. This soreness is most prevalent 24 to 48 hours after each workout. In the first few weeks of a new program, soreness is the body trying to "protect and defend" the effected or targeted tissue. Exercise physiologists refer to this as delayed-onset muscle soreness, or DOMS. This type of soreness is thought to be caused by tissue breakdown or microscopic tears in muscle tissue. When this happens the body protects the tissue. The muscle becomes inflamed and slightly swollen with Fluid retention. This temporary retention of fluid can result in a 3- to 4-pound weight gain within a few weeks of a new program. Keep in mind that muscle soreness is not necessarily a reflection of how hard you worked. In fact, some people feel no signs of muscle soreness, yet will experience the muscle protection mechanisms of Water retention and slight swelling. -
Hi fellow banders: I have been exercising for the last 9 days and have gained 4 pounds. At first I started out and could only do 20 minutes of cardio...by the third day I pushed it up to 40 minutes with the last 3 days at 45 minutes. I'm eating healthy; following the rules! I was banded in Oct. 08. I have lost 41 pounds and this is my first time really exercising since surgery. Can anyone share their trials of just starting out exercising and did this happen to you? How long did you exercise and what types of things did you do? Do you think it is ok to do cardio everyday? In desperate need of motivation!!

I , too, was banded in oxford. I drove over 3 1/2 hours to go to Dr. Byars. The whole experience has been excellent. Because I lived so far, I did stay overnight, and the stay was good. I went to CMMC for one of those sessions...but felt they pushed more the gastric and felt that it was just impersonable! But that is just my opinion! Mississippi Girl

I haven't had my first fill yet, and I'm eating like I did before the band! Help!

I, too, am in Bandster Hell with ya! Okay..I haven't been to this site in a long while. But glad I stopped by today. I, too, along with many of you have absolutely no restriction. I have been depressed because I have felt like I've put my family in debt for 15K dollars for another flippin thing that hasnt' worked. I've lost a total of 31 lbs...but it has nothing to do with the band...it is from sticking to a liquid diet. I had my surgery October 6. I started back Monday on only eating one healthy meal a day and doing slimfast in the morning and evening. I'm just not motivated. I feel normal. I dont' feel like I have a band at all. I'm proud that I've kept what weight i've lost off....but again...do ya'll think I'll feel differently when I get a fill?...i'm just so hungry all the time.... And I know I have to be patient...and 31 lbs is a lot....I know...but 19 of that was lost 2 weeks before my surgery so that is only 12 lbs post op since October 6.... -

I know...but I keep thinking that if I would have done right the entire time it might would be 41 lbs...I started this "journey" almost 9 weeks ago...just tired of feeling hungry for 9 weeks and out of pocket the money...It'll be okay when I can feel the benefit of the surgery. I probably won't get a fill until January...if I'm lucky maybe December 10 when I go back... I appreciate the encouragement! NFAITH: I also drive a long ways...4 hours one way! But it'll be worth it! -

How much did you lose at 2weeks post op?
MississippiGirl replied to w104jmr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 week and one day out of surgery and excited. I lost 19 lbs before surgery and I have lost another 9 in the last week for a grand total of 28 lbs! All sticking strictly to the diet except i cheated with grilled chicken during my preop like 3 separate times.... -

Renita, I'm the same way about fish...but like you too I hope that the band will kick in like I expect it too...because right now on these liquids it growls all the time! Likebefore, I did cheat a little on my preop diet....about 3 times in 2 weeks. 2 times I ate about 6 bites of a grilled chicken breast and the other time it was with a salad and boiled shrimp. I lost 19 lbs in my preop and the doc said my liver looked great...but really try and stick to your strict diet. The times I cheated was when I was out with a whole bunch of business people and I didn't want to explain myself..... -

Renita, I love paula deen too and this past week on one of the shows she made fried cheesecake...I said why am i putting myself this this torture!! but everybody on every show loves to put a little butter here and a little butter there...I'm thinking its more like a little pound here and a little pound there ha ha! When I was in the hospital they had this channel Fit TV--I dont' get it at home but there is a cooking show called something decadence with Devin Alexander I think...don't quote me...but anyway she has written a cookbook that makes fast food a little healthier. For example she actually has name brand fast food like a big mac from McDonalds and makes it taste similar but a healthier way..My family and I LOVE the taste of fastfood and think i'm gonna try the cookbook. -

I understand about the grocery thing...but for some reason here is what I'm obsessing over FOOD NETWORK cooking shows!! I have a friend who had gastric bypass a few years back. She says I'm mourning food and since I can't get it in my stomach i'm getting my fix with my eyes ha ha! Also, before my preop and surgery my husband did all the cooking. Now I'm cooking for them like never before. I guess because I have the energy but the smell satisfies me too...Isn't this crazy. Is anyone else hooked on cooking shows? Or am I the oddball out. I'm also looking as to how I can cook healthier for my family. They've been eating better and my husband is losing a few pounds too. As of yesterday I was down by 26 lbs! -

Meschultz: Thanks! I took it easy today and I am feeling pretty good. Think I'll even try and make it to morning church services tomorrow. I have a desk job, but Monday I do have a work outing to attend and it involves food...which I can't have...I hate having to deal with these situations because I don't want to explain to everyone what I've had done. My work colleagues know but our "clients" don't so it just causes a "sticky" situation! It looks like you have really been doing awesome yourself! I appreciate you sharing your details...it is "comforting" to know how others are handling it. Have a good rest of the weekend! Mississippi Girl -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Just an update the girl in Mississippi! I was banded Monday morning. I think i'm doing terrific. Was lucky that I didn't have a lot of gas pain as far as it being in my shoulders like others have reported. Yesterday I got to start drinking my optima slimfast again. I can drink about 1/2 cup and I feel full...so that is exciting! I took my bandages off...was a little disappointed how big the incision was ....about the size of my pinkie finger..but everything looks to be healing well. I was down 19 lbs from my preop liquid diet--which was a true liquid diet...I would have killed for some veggies or meat during my preop!! I'm down another 4 lbs since I left the hospital for a GRAND TOTAL of 23 lbs! I'm really excited because I can tell I've lost in my face and neck area. I go back to work on Monday--Yuck I've really been enjoying staying home and being lazy!! I had to take my pain medicine when I woke up this morning. I felt good enough yesterday to go winter clothes shopping for my toddler (so of course my husband thinks I must be better if i'm shopping) but I think I may have over did it just a little. The day before I didn't take any pain medication. Good Luck to those with upcoming surgeries! Mississippi Girl -
Yeah I read her post and I freaked out. I did call my doctor this morning. I was having an allergic reaction to the hydrocodone. He instructed me to take benadryl with my pain reliever and that helped alot. Thanks for your help!

CyndyG, I feel you are discourage with the liquid diet...but for me after I got to day 3 it was much easier...just stay busy and try not to obsess about what you are having to do. I was just banded and of still on the liquid diet. I can't imagine someone not being on a liquid diet and having to deal with what you are going through now plus the "body shock" of the surgery. It is going to pay off!! I lost 19 pounds on my 2 week preop and so glad i did...that's 19 down that I don't have to lose now. I know how you are feeling! Those first two days i was so miserable and hungry and then a friend called on the third day and say "well how much weight have you lost" I was like I don't know and don't care i'm just hungry! Who cares! but I did go weigh and I had lost like 4 lbs and then I got excited and motivated! stick with it you can do it! -
Okay. I called my doc first thing this morning. I'm having a mild allergic reaction to my pain medicine Hydrocodone. He advised me to take it with benadryl and it was much better this afternoon. So I'm feeling relieved. Also, good for you there won't be any scarring..what a crazy reaction. I hope you are feeling better! Thanks for your help and sharing!

I am about 40 hours out of surgery too and the same thing is happening to me....did urs finally go away?? Did you figure what it was out? Did you have to call your doctor?

Also, I've never been allergic to any medicines....and never had any medical complications...
