Hello. I went to the meeting at NYU on the recommendation of my doctor. I like NYU and would like to move forward but am concerned that I am not doing the steps in order. I have received information from my insurance company that they will cover if medically necessary (which I am trying to decipher all parts of that) and am meeting with my primary care doctor tomorrow to get things moving. What next? Should I get the OK from insurance before I make a psych and nutrition appointments? Would anyone mind mind please giving me a quick run through of what they did? THANK YOU!

Thanks for your help. The letter from your primary care physical that they require - how extensive was it? Did they need to also outline weight loss attempts or just short and sweet that they agree with my decision?

I am at the beginning process of dealing with my insurance company. Their "diet" requirement seems a bit vague so I am wondering if you have the 6 month (or any other timed requirement) is it spelled out by your insurance company or is yours vague too? Thank you!

Hello. I have an Anthem BCBS of Ohio Preferred PPO. They sent me information about what is covered and it comes down to the "medically necessary" issue. My weight puts me at a medically necessary level but my question is about Part 2 - previous attempts as weight loss and speaking with my doctor. :thumbdown: Can anyone tell me what information they provided about previous weight loss attempts - Please? It does not mention anything about a time frame but wanted to know if they were verbally told one. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

This section: The patient must have actively participated in non-surgical methods of weight reduction; these efforts must be fully appraised by the physician requesting authorization for surgery; What exactly did you submit to the insurance company for approval? Also, you had your psych evaluation and surgeon evaluation before you sent in the paperwork? Did you or the surgeon's office send it in for you?

Did your insurance paperwork say that you need 6 Months or just past attempts?
