  1. THANK YOU everyone! A lot of great insights and advice. Ultimately, I figured out that Starbucks has decaf espresso (which I didn’t even know was a thing because, well, why…lol) and got a sugar free decaf espresso with a drop of pumpkin cold foam. The decaf espresso was far better than the decaf roast I was using. It was heavenly and just having it made me feel better— I didn’t feel like it was wrong and I didn’t feel completely restricted. I’m working on my relationship with food and “dieting” as I recover (aren’t we all?) and it felt like a win. I also wrote down some of the concoctions and great ideas y’all gave, and started planning my own sugar free healthy concoctions to try. And I will follow up with my doctor at my post-op appointment in a few days. It’s fascinating that every single person and plan is so unique, depending on your body, your doctor, hospital, state, country, etc. It’s nice to gather so many perspectives and be able to feel *in control* while weighing your options because you’re not starving all the time. Just a thought. Thanks again!
  2. Hi all! I’m entering my 2nd week after gastric bypass and generally feeling pretty good (knock on wood!). The only thing I’m really missing— like, making me sad, missing— is coffee. I keep trying decaf but I can’t do the taste and all I want is a sugar free pumpkin cold brew cold foam. So my question is… how bad would it be to get one? I know I could only do maybe 3 or 4 sips of it but man, I want it. Thoughts? Experiences? Thanks in advance!
  3. Hello again! Sorry for the multiple posts but just wondering whether anyone has a list of things that helped their recovery go smoothly? For instance, things you’ll want in the weeks right after surgery like heat pads, ice packs (which is better?)…I saw somewhere else that someone recommended a reclining chair?? I have 2 little boys at home, and I want to be as present as possible so I’m looking for any advice on how to recover safely but still be comfortable and active.

    Pre-Op Diet

Thank you so much for the reassurance. I think my anxiety is getting the better of me— thinking of negative outcomes and finding reasons not to do something so massive. I just went for my final bloodwork and Thursday is the big day. I’ll stay away from the scale 😊 Thanks again!

    Pre-Op Diet

Hello everyone! I discovered this forum a couple of weeks ago and have found it really helpful (so thank you!) but this is my first time posting. I’m scheduled to have a gastric bypass on September 12, and I’m really anxious and somewhat doubtful. I’m half way through my 2 week pre-op diet (2 shakes, 2 snacks, 1 meal, no carbs); I started 2 days late but still, I haven’t lost a thing. Anyone else experience this? what if it’s the same after the surgery? What if my body’s just broken from gaining and losing so many times? a little context: I’m female, 39 years old, and weigh 266.4 lbs. it’s the biggest I’ve ever been. I have three children, but after my second son passed away at birth in 2020, I was put on antidepressants which I take religiously. Early this year I was also diagnosed with ADHD and put on meds, and the loss of appetite and focus cut my food intake in half— still did not lose any weight.
