Has anyone ever had weight loss "stalling"? The scale has not moved for almost a month (it has not gone up either). I doing everything I can think of: exercising, eating correctly, measuring food portions, food journaling, more Water, daily Vitamins. EVERYTHING. Is the end of the road for me? (I am 10 months post-op. ) Anyone else go thru these times?

I had a stall during my pre-op diet which took about a week to end. Then at 3 weeks post op I had stall. But in week 4 suddenly 10lbs was gone. I get more stressed about it if I weigh myself every day, so I try not to, but it's really difficult not to.

  2. Thanks everyone. I think me panic was more stress induced than anything else. So I've just gone through my house again, and threw out everything that I shouldn't eat again. I definitely think I have a food addiction so I think I will check out overeaters anonymous. Honestly, I never something like that existed! My weight is back on a downward trend (.5kg or 1lb) since Monday so I'm starting to see the light at the end again. I'm flying on Sunday so I've been feeling stressed about that which doesn't help.

Thank you for all your support. Sometimes I just need someone to press the "bullshit" button and snap me out of the funk.

    Back to onwards and downwards.

  3. Yes. you're all right of course. I'm just blowing this out of proportion. As the saying goes. "it's a bad day. not a bad life." I think I'm stressed about my long trip to on Sunday and seeing people for the first time in 20 years.

And your definitely right. I've been eating more than I have in weeks and more than I shoud, but definitely less than this time last year.

It’s understandable that you’re upset by this setback, but it’s way too early to declare failure. The first several months after WLS are a major adjustment and very stressful, both physically and mentally. Do you have a therapist? Your post reads like a CBT textbook chapter on cognitive distortions, and all of this can be addressed in therapy.

I can't get therapy. I've had the one session with the therapist that I get with the MDT and it was all about mindful eating. Which was just "eat slower and focus on the taste and texture so you know when you are full." Well, I'm full but I keep eating and can't stop. I mean, if this is going to continue and I can't get help, I can't really see how this isn't a failure. I can't get more therapy sessions. That was it.

  5. So I've failed the sleeve already. I just can't beat the head hunger. I was in the office today and everyone but cakes and candies etc. I just can't say no. This isn't even the first time. And I can't stop eating when I'm full. My stomach hurts but I just keep eating. I've been in tears from my stomach hurting, but I still can't stop eating. I really don't think there's anything else I can do at this point. I've gained back only a lb but it will keep going up. I lost more weight pre-op than I have post op and there's no chance of losing more.

I knew it wasn't supposed to be easy, but I expected that I would be able to do better. This is just another diet that I've failed except it's permanent and I'm going to be on Vitamin shots and pills for the rest of my life. This was a mistake.

  6. I'm flying back to the US for the first time in 20 years and I leave on Sunday. On Sunday, I will be 7 weeks post op.

I will also be going back for Thanksgiving so it's going to be a bit difficult with not being able to eat.

Does anyone have any tips for flying post-op? First long haul flight since 2005. Although, I'm really happy I'll be able to fit in the plane seat!

Welcome! I'm almost 6 weeks post op and I'm glad I made this decision! You will be too!

That is so heart-breaking to hear - I hope that you feel comfortable to wear it again, as you should!

I gave it to a charity shop after that. But I might I treat myself to a new one. On a slightly related topic, my 5xl Winter coat (I always get a size bigger in coats so I have room for a hoodie) is almost ankle length now because I lost so much weight. (Almost 55 lbs) so that day may be sooner than I planned!

It looks like you've already got some great suggestions! I had my surgery back at the beginning of August, and have since found that I do have to set the timer to pace myself when eating. I also will play a simple game or do a basic activity while I'm eating for those minimum thirty minutes; a crossword on my computer, or a puzzle on my machine, or pick up and flip through photos on my phone - just something to keep my hand busy when I put the fork down. I know we're supposed to eat mindfully but I think my racing brain really needs some form of stimuli to keep me from automatically eating until my food is gone.

I've been guilty more than a few times of putting more on my plate than I should eat, too, so I suggest going back to measuring your food, if you're not doing that, and then eyeballing the amount to split it into sections before you start your timer. A meal is supposed to take at least 20-30 minutes I believe, so I divide what is on my plate into either two or three sections - you could always put most of your Protein in one section and then eat that section first over the course of ten minutes in case it ends up filling you up. There are times I can eat more than other times, so I am never really sure how much to get. This post reminds me to be mindful and follow my own advice!

OH - the other thing that helped me was moving up to eating at least every three hours. Even if its just a little bit of a Protein after three hours, then wait another hour and a half for a meal - by eating a little bit every three hours I'm not as likely to start eating way too quickly due to hunger. Hope this helps!

That's a great suggestion! I'm actually starting to feel hungry again (5 weeks post op now) so I need to nip this behaviour in the bud now.

I have never heard of that advice before in my life 😳 bloody hell! Yeah...no wonder!! The leaflet instructions just say take it an hour after food, and I always find in the evening before bed is best, as if I have nausea I can just try and sleep it off!

Definitely chase it up with them!

TBH, I think the just ran out of the soluble ones at the pharmacy so they gave me those!

    @NeonRaven8919 no problem at all!

Yeah I have heard a lot of people are very sick with Forceval dissolvable, but with the tablet I have had minimal issues. I wait an hour after eating in the evening and then I take it, and that helps with the nausea!

My surgeon said literally ANY A-Z Multivitamin, so long as it says A-Z, and just to take 2 rather than 1!

Vitamin D I would say yes definitely, you can get a spray version of this and it isn't too bad! But Calcium you shouldn't need unless you aren't having the required amount of Calcium as listed in the above!

It is really really confusing, and if I am being honest I have only been taking my Forceval and that is it. I have just had my blood test yesterday, so I wait to see where I need to supplement!

They told me to bite the forceval caplet, swallow the inside liquid and then spit out the shell. No wonder I was sick when I took it!

I've been doing the forceval and the Iron tablets they gave me. I need to follow up with the GP to see what they will prescribe me later.

    Hey!

I had the bypass, so I am just going to copy & paste the information that my nutritionist & medical team gave me regarding Vitamins etc, because I also obsessed over it!

A-Z Multivitamin and Minerals containing 2mg of copper. This means if you are lucky enough to get Forceval on prescription, you only need 1 Forceval tablet a day. You will still need to take the other supplements detailed below.

For most other shop bought options, you will need to take 2 A-Z tablets a day (even though the packet says one a day). Remember the crucial bit is getting one that says A-Z.

    Options include:

    Dissolvable · https://www.naturesbest.co.uk/multivitamins/young-adults/effervescent-multivitamins-a-z-fizzy/

    Calcium:

You need at least 1200mg Calcium in your diet each day. Count each portion of dairy as about 300mg (such as a yoghurt, a matchbox size piece of cheese or a glass of milk). If you aren’t getting enough Calcium, you should top up. You can get Adcal D3 or something similar on prescription from your GP or shop bought options include: · https://solaray.co.uk/products/calcium-citrate-1000mg · https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/solgar-calcium-citrate-with-vitamin-d3-tablets-60001382

    Vitamin D :

Most people need 50-75ug or 2000-3000IU to keep their levels in the healthy range after surgery. · https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/betteryou-d3000-vitamin-d-daily-oral-spray-60012895

    Iron:

Most people need 45-60mg total Iron a day (each multivitamin contains 14mg so 2 a day plus your diet may mean you don’t need extra). Women who menstruate should aim for 100mg so could get one on prescription from your doctor. If you suffer with Constipation, try a gentle Iron like Spatone or Floradix.

    Vitamin B12:

You may get injections every 3 months from your GP or you can use a spray / sublingual drops. Don’t rely on tablets where possible as the absorption isn’t as good as the liquid.

    Try: · https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/betteryou-pure-energy-b12-boost-oral-spray-60099160 · https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/holland-barrett-b-complex-sublingual-liquid-60002871 · https://solgar.co.uk/products/solgar-liquid-b12-2000-with-b-complex-59-ml

Thanks for this! Especially a nice UK-based list. Forceval made me very ill when I started taking it, but now that I've been cleared to swallow tablets, I like that I only need one a day. Just hoping the GP will prescribe it. The only Vitamin brands I've been suggested by my doctor are Forceval which I can't seem to find without prescription or Sanatogen A-Z which is bit pricy.

I need a calcium and vitamin d tablet PLUS a vitamin D supplement? This is all very confusing.

Such a shame. Seems long waiting lists to get appointments for specialists are bad everywhere. 4 months at least to see a dermatologist here in Australia and my mum was told TWO YEARS to see a gerontologist - she said she could be dead by then. And this is as private not public patients.

    That's outrageous!

  14. Today I am officially one month post op. I just had my follow up with the team and I've lost 11.6kg (25.6 lbs) since surgery. They said this total weight loss "was slightly above expected range." So I don't know if I lost more than they expected me to or less than they expected me to, but they seem happy with my progress either way. They've also said as soon as I have no abdominal pain, I can start cycling again! I'm so happy to get back on the bike. Especially since in total, I've lost 24.1 kg (53 lbs) so I should be able to go further and faster on the bike!

That's an amazing gauge; before my surgery (Sept '23), I had to use the last hole, and it was...snug. Here we are now, a week short of 14 months post-op, down 135lbs and I use the 4th hole unless I'm working out, when I use the 5th hole to tighten it up a little to keep the sensors away from the bottom of my (tattoo) sleeve.

I had two switch to wearing my smart watch on my right hand because I tattooed my left hand. It just won't read through it. I did have some luck with putting clear resin stickers on the back to help it read through the skin, but this was too much to keep bothering with. Technology is weird sometimes.
