    Tips for incorporating Seeds.

What I've done as well with my porridge is cook it up and then add a scoop or half a scoop of protein powder. (Only on days when I was pretty sure I wouldn't get my protein in pre-op) Porridge with small chunks of apple and then Myprotein Salted caramel tastes really nice.

My win for today is small and maybe reaching a little, but I can ALMOST button my favourite denim jacket again! I haven't even been able to get it on in about a year!

It's just the British way of making oatmeal.

I love porridge! I'm waiting for my soft foods phase to start because I like my porridge roughly the same texture as wallpaper paste so I can't have it yet.
  6. I'm just over two weeks post op. I was cleared for the pureed stage of foods, so I've been eating pureed foods since Monday. But no matter what I do, it just sits too heavy in my stomach. I feel too full despite eating the same volume as I did with liquids. There was a meal or two where I felt ok, but mostly too full. So I'm going back to liquids. Have I damaged anything by eating purees too soon? Have I set myself too far back in my recovery?

    Going back a step?

I've definitely been puréeing the tuna so it's the right texture, but I think you all might be right about the portion size itself. I got handed a leaflet about what to eat post op, but they don't actually suggest any food ideas with measurements until the solid phase. I do ok on 4oz of liquid, but I think I will try half of that for purée and see how I get on. I'm trying not to be in a hurry to move on to the next stage, but I'm really miserable at this stage.

    Going back a step?

I didn't really get a lot of guidance other then 2 weeks liquid. 2 weeks purée 2 week soft than normal. I think I'm going to try smaller portions of purée

    Going back a step?

Thanks! I've been blending tuna and yohurt so it's about yoghurt consistency, but I wonder if purees weigh more. 4oz of liquid is fine, 4oz of puree is too much. I might try the guidance of 8 small mouthfuls. I have a small spoon that is smaller than a normal teaspoon so I will try that.

    First Bariatric Christmas

I love halloween! The dark and spooky matches my soul! But I've never done a lot of candy on halloween. I usually just wear my skeleton onesie all day and hang halloween lights!

stalling just 1 week post op

I've had the exact same thing. Op was on the 7th of October and I lost about 8kg (18lbs) in week one, and then no budging. But that's to be expected. Are you constipated? This can also help with weight retention. So can fluids and gas post op. Just stay the course and it will drop. Taking measurements and seeing your size go down can also help to stay motivated. You can do this!

Welcome to the site! I'm only two weeks post-op (sleeve) so I'm still learning and adjusting as well. Keep us updated!

    Disagreement about surgery date

I think they will also have some reason they don't want you to do it after the holidays too. At least it was like that with my friends and family. They are concerned and worried for you so they will tend to push back and encourage you not to do it.

    First Bariatric Christmas

As an British-American, I'm going back to the US for Thanksgiving in one month and I pretty much have the same concerns. Food, Food, Food is all it is. Come to find out my stepmother had the sleeve two years ago (she kept it real quiet but judged my mother for having a bypass 15 years ago, but I digress) so having one other bariatric patient at the table could be helpful for portion size recommendations. But Christmas, I'm with Italian friends. Italians (not to generalise, but something I've observed) love to feed people so I'm going to have to practice stern "no thank you".

Let's Talk GRIEF! An ongoing thread about bariatric grief!

Not something they have here in the UK, but I'm sure there are other veggie alternatives. Thanks for the suggestion!

Let's Talk GRIEF! An ongoing thread about bariatric grief!

I grieve solid food in general, but specifically pasta. I'm fairly low income and pasta is cheap to buy and prepare. Whole-wheat alternatives are rare and unaffordable for me. Once I can eat solid food again, I'm going to have to find cheap alternatives.

I was on hold so long yesterday (also while walking) I was actually shocked to hear an actual voice on the other end! I definitely pace back and forth.

That's a good point that I haven't thought of. I'm on pureed foods now as well so yesterday I went walking after lunch because it sat a bit heavy in my stomach. That really helped. Nice to exercise without needing to get the helmet, the bike locks, making sure it's locked near a CCTV camera etc. Just my own foot power and walking tunes. (Iron Maiden yesterday, will switch it up today)

I was finally able to get in over 10k steps yesterday. I'm still two weeks post op so no strenuous activity or lifting so I have to walk to work instead of cycling. At first I was annoyed because I love cycling, but I think having to walk will kick-start the weight loss. I've lost 8.5kg (18.7lbs) in the two weeks since surgery and walking helps.

    October 2024 Surgery Buddies

I'm only two weeks post op and it doesn't hurt to eat unless you eat too much. I've learned pretty quickly what "too much" is so it's not painful to eat. Just eat slowly and your restriction will stop you from.being in pain. My mother had bypass in 2008 back whe it was standard to do an open procedure. She was able to eat almost anything and she wasn't in pain when she ate 15 years later. If they are 3+ years post op and still in pain when eating, they are probably either not eating correctly or they should speak to their surgical team.

To be fair, that's soup sounds amazing! Very different to what I've been having. If I have another cream of chicken soup in this life, I may throw a hissy fit. Seriously, I know it's all temporary and I'm going slowly because I don't want anything I do to mess this up. The puree stage makes me feel more full than I have in months. After a few bites, (maybe 3 tablespoons total) I was full. But my eyes, are still bigger than my stomach and my eyes were telling me that's not enough. I went for a walk after I was done to make sure I wasn't tempted to have more.

I'm starting my purée foods stage today. I'm eating tuna mashed with low fat yogurt. I'm just glad it's not soup.
