New Here banded Sept 8 having an embarrasing question
Mariasha replied to LinK's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How long ago were you banded? -
I check lapband talk all the time from my iPhone. The old mobile site was not at all friendly to navigate. The new layout is a huge improvement!! Thanks so much to the mods and admins for making these changes. I'm sure there will be a short transition time as people adjust to the changes but once they do I'm sure they will appreciate the new site.

Weightloss before first fill?
Mariasha replied to sbrick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your doing great! Many people do not lose at all until they get their first fill. -
Does this mean I am full?
Mariasha replied to gotmyeyeontheprize's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At this point your feeling of fullness is probably due to swelling from the surgery. It is unlikely that you have real restriction now. The main thing is to listen to your body. If you feel that you are full than stop eating. It takes time to get used to, because we are not used to eating in this manner. -
Great! Way to go!!

When will I feel normal again?
Mariasha replied to gotmyeyeontheprize's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was totally back to normal in less than a week. Take it easy and wait and see how you feel. -
Start by reading the FAQ Section located here http://www.lapbandtalk.com/forum/170-frequently-asked-questions/ Then the best thing would be to find a local surgeon in your area. Most have information sessions you can attend where they will explain everything you need to know.

He should be fine within a couple of days - max a week or two. Take a look around the site - you'll find a ton of great information here!! Your dad is lucky to have such a supportive child.

Fluctuating Weight?
Mariasha replied to Mirella1973's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight can fluctuate greatly from day to day. Just taking a good crap can drop you a couple of pounds! I find it is best to weigh myself once a week under the exact same conditions. (same time, amount of clothing etc.) Even then I would wait a couple of weeks before getting concerned. -
The first three days are the worst. After that it gets better. (At least it did for me)

Do you regret getting a LapBand?
Mariasha replied to HunnyBun's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I do regret... I regret not having done this sooner. -
to band, sleeve or not?
Mariasha replied to Buttercup24's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm down 90 pounds. I enjoy eating with family and friends. Have had no major problems. Only been stuck a couple of times. Never thrown up or PB'ed. Keep in mind that the vast majority of people won't come here to post that everything is going great. They take that as a given. Thy come here when they run in to some kind of issue and want to vent about it. -
Had my port flip. It is frustrating but not really a big deal. They will probably try and do it under fluoroscopy. That way they will be able to see for sure if it is flipped or not.

I'm 5'10 Male. Started at 405. My initial goal 180. Will re-assess when I get there!

Just stick it out. Remember that this is the last time you will ever need to starve yourself in order to lose weight...

Just curious, would you know if you were stretching your pouch? What would be the symptoms?

Bmi= 29-32 please help find surgeon in us.
Mariasha replied to Want_Lap_Band's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr Fielding at NYU. I know people with low BMI's that he has operated on. He is one of the most experienced surgeons out there (over 4000 surgeries) and just a really great caring individual. Check out his bio here. http://thinforlife.med.nyu.edu/about-us/meet-our-doctors/dr-george-fielding -
Bmi= 29-32 please help find surgeon in us.
Mariasha replied to Want_Lap_Band's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With a low BMI like that I'm sure you understand that insurance will not cover your surgery. But if you are ready to pay for it yourself I don't see why any surgeon would not agree to band you. I know that my surgeon definitely would but he's in NYC which I imagine is a little far for you. I would start by researching surgeons in your local area, and then calling them to find out if they will operate on a low BMI self pay patient. -

Sounds like your port may be flipped. If your surgeon can't find it again next time he will most likely try to do your fill under fluroscopy. That way he can see the port while he is trying to get to it. If in fact the port is flipped and he is not able to access it, then a small surgery to correct the port may be nessasary.

Personally, I had the lapband. But there are many people here on the boards with realize band. The lapband is much more commonly used hence the high number of users here with lapbands. I don't believe that one has shown to be more effective than another. Again, they both do exactly the same thing.

Is it time for a fill? Experienced Banders Please Help!
Mariasha replied to W8TYGIRL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Try increasing exercise. If you become too tight you will actually gain weight rather than losing. -
The lapband and the realize band are almost identical. The only difference is the company they are made by. Everything you read here should apply to the realize band also.
