Why is there a string hanging from my belly?
Mariasha replied to gotmyeyeontheprize's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does it look and feel like a fishing wire? I had something similar. It was a stitch left in from the surgery. You don't want to pull at it. It will disolve and disappear with time. If it is still bothering you next time you see your doctor ask him about it. -
Those of you with a 10 cc band....
Mariasha replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's important to remember that everyone is different. Some people (very few) feel restriction without any fills at all, and some need there band filled almost entirely. There is no magic number that garuntees restriction. You and your surgeon need to work together to find the level that works for you. -
"What if I F*** it Up"
Mariasha replied to krasc001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also worried before I had my surgery that I would slip back in to old eating habits. What you don't realize now is what it will feel like not to be hungry anymore. When you are bot starving hungry all day long it is much easier to make healthy food choices. Instead of trying to work out how to curb my hunger and what is the next thing I can find to eat, I now take the time to think about what would be a good healthy food choice for this meal. If you are committed to the band and stick to the rules you will be successful. -
How big were your fills? Hang in there, it will probably just take one or two more times.

Why did you all choose the LapBand ?
Mariasha replied to AnEnigma89's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are planning to go to Mexico for your band, make sure you have a Doctor back at home that can take care of your follow up care. Getting regular fills is an essential part of having the band. -
The liquids and Protein shakes can make your craps turn all sorts of colors. Runny stools are also normal. It will stop once you get back on solids.

I would love for some of those smart ass commentors to read this article written by my surgeon, Dr George Fielding I'm also linking to it here because I think my fellow bandsters would enjoy it. It addresses many of the issues and attitudes of these anonymous commentors http://thinforlife.med.nyu.edu/success/news-articles/everyone-dreams

OXFORD HEALTHPLAN
Mariasha replied to SUCCESSFUL4LIFE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What is your BMI? Oxford is the easiest company to deal with. As long as your BMI is over 40 they will approve you no problem. -
Hi! I'm new to the site, HELP!
Mariasha replied to Army wife luvs lapband's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My pleasure! Hope that can tide you over till Monday morning when you can go get unfilled a little. -
Is this dietician also charging you for each of those visits?? Once you know how to eat properly with the band I don't see any need to continue seeing a dietician. If you run into any problems down the road you can arrange to see them then.

Mariasha replied to Army wife luvs lapband's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Try taking slow sips of a hot tea. Warm liquids can relax the band. If that doesn't work call your doctors office and see if they have a 24 hour emergeny help line. -
Something doesn't jive right with me about specific Pre-Op diet
Mariasha replied to TXNurse77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The reason doctors require a pre op diet is in order to shrink the liver. During the surgery when they place the band, the surgeon needs to lift up your liver and go in under it to get to your stomach. Many people that are severly overweight also have enlarged livers. With an enlarged fatty liver you there is a much higher chance of the liver bursting during the surgery. Surgeons have found that a two week low calorie liquid diet reduces the size of the liver by about a third. This makes the procedure much safer to perform. Like all things with the band, the pre op diet is really there for your own good. Sure it may be hard, but do you really want to wake up in the recovery room and be told the doctor couldn't place the band because you didn't follow your pre op diet?? -
I usually make myself some salad with protein (tuna or cheese) the night bedore, and take it to school with me.

I hope that's an extra zero on the end and not the comma in the wrong place...

I'm new here ... need advice.
Mariasha replied to dodyc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You're doing fine. Just eat small portions and chew your food well. We all get stuck once in a while. From what I understand slippage happens from repeatedly eating to the point of throwing up. -
Great piece on the Wikileaks cables and American policy. http://english.pravda.ru/opinion/columnists/03-12-2010/116041-valerie_plame_wikileaks-0/

So much for freedom of speech. In a free society, we are supposed to know the truth. In a society where truth becomes treason, we are in big trouble.

I do sometimes. It's usually my bodies way of telling me to slow down.

Most insurance companies require you to have a BMI of 40 or of 35 with two co morbidities. Some have additional requirements also. What insurance do you have?
