So I was banded this past Monday and am feeling great. I seem to be one of those guys that feels restriction just from the band without even having a fill. I feel full all the time and haven't felt the least bit hungry since my surgery 5 days ago. I am able to drink liquids by taking small sips. As soon as I drink a little I feel full. I am making sure to stay well hydrated by drinking small amounts throughout the day. My question is if there is any concern that I may not be getting enough calories? Almost everything I have been drinking this week is zero cal and I have had less than 100 calories every day this week. I feel great but just wanted to make sure this is not a problem. Thanks for your feedback

Thanks everyone for your responses. Today was much better. I got down two shakes and some Soup. I think my body is getting used to the band. Just wondering, is there any way of knowing or being able to calculate at what point a persons body enters "starvation mode"?

Thanks HappyMom. My only concern is that I don't want to try and eat to much and then throw up. I'm trying to balance that with making sure I get enough calories. As soon as I take a couple of sips I feel very full and start getting the hiccups. I'm scared of trying to have any more after that.

Thanks, I'm going to try that. Yesterday I managed to get down about a half a shake and then I felt full. We'll see how it goes today.

I have a friend who loves steak but he can't handle it with his band. Sometimes if other people are eating it, he'll take a piece and chew on it for a while and then spit it out. He says he gets the flavor and the taste but he can't actually swallow it. Each to their own...

As soon as you feel up to it. Just be careful with you incisions. You may need to get creative with different positions.

Nervous about not being nervous
Mariasha replied to HAL380's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was exactly like you. Just had my surgery two days ago. Was totally cool and relaxed the entire time. Even as I was on the operating table and they were getting me ready I wasn't at all nervous. The doctors and nurses kept on commenting on how calm I seemed so I guess it is somewhat unusual. Like you I did all my research and came to the conclusion that I wanted to take control of my bad eating habits, improve my quality of life, and that having the lapband was the best way to do this. Now I'm two days post-op, feeling great, and down 33lbs since I started my liquid diet. So yes, there are others like you. Keep up your positive attitude and you will do fine. Best of luck with your surgery! -

getting banded in less that 38 hours!

Recovery for everyone is different, but I think it easier for young people like me and you. I got discharged yesterday and am feeling great today. I'm sure your surgeon knows what he is talking about. If he said its fine, I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck with your surgery and with your studies! -

That's so funny. I live in New York but I am Australian and so is my surgeon Dr Fielding. Personally, I lost 25 pounds (11.3Kg) during my two weeks on liquids. My surgeon said it helped tremendously and made my surgery much easier. I guess you should follow your surgeons instructions. I was just sharing my personal experience. If you are really concerned about it why don't you ask him to reschedule your surgery so that you can do the two week liquid diet? -

I'm 24 with and started out at 405. Just got banded yesterday by Dr Fielding at NYU. He is very strict about the two week liquid diet. If you don't do it he won't do the surgery. Where are you getting banded? -

Hmm, not sure then. Are you starting off with a very high BMI? Do you have a lot of weight to lose? I believe the heavier you are the bigger the chances of a fatty liver. -

Hey Gwen, The two week liquid diet is mainly to help shrink the liver which makes the surgery much easier. Perhaps your doctor already saw from your previous tests that your liver is not enlarged enough to be an issue. Best of luck with your surgery! -
Just got banded yesterday. Started out with a BMI of 58. Dropped it down to 54 after two week liquid diet. Find a new doctor.

LapBand LINGO please explain!!
Mariasha replied to Becca29's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
PB is a productive burp. If you eat to much or don't chew it well enough the food with will just come back up. It is a very uncomfortable experience. For a full list explaining the abbreviations used on this forum look here. -
I am getting banded in two days and would like to start a exercise program right away. My question is if the C2K program will be good for me? I have a lot of weight to loose and am worried that this program may be to vigorous for me at this stage. For those of you who have done it, at what weight would you say it is appropriate to start?

Scheduled to be banded in a week from today - thinking of canceling!
Mariasha posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am scheduled to have the band in one week from today by Dr Fielding in NYU. I just came across this story in the NY post that says the state is investigating the Fieldings and the NYU program for malpractice. If you have had surgery at NYU, please speak up! I want to hear from you guys. Did you have a positive experience or not? I am dying to have the band done but this has really scared me off. -

Scheduled for Surgery on June 21!! Yay!! I'm so excited!!! -
Hi All, After years of thinking about lap band surgery and researching it extensively I recently decided to go through with it. Here's my question for y'all. I have a date for surgery which is exactly two weeks before my wedding. I would really like to have this surgery done before getting married if possible. I want to make sure that two weeks after surgery (assuming there are no complications) I will be back to normal and fully able to enjoy my wedding. Keep in mind, I am a 23 year old male, besides for being overweight - no other major health problems, and I usually recover and recuperate well and quickly. What do you guys think???

Lap Band Surgery two weeks before wedding?
Mariasha replied to Mariasha's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow! Thanks to all of you who responded! It sounds like everyone is in agreement that I should wait till after the wedding... Oh well. I waited this long I can wait the extra month or two. This is why I love LapBandTalk! Nothing like hearing information first hand from those who've been through it. Will keep y'all updated as to what I end up doing. Thanks again. :mad2:
