Teenager on the rode to surgery
Mariasha replied to Duhitsmecca's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my band at 24. Wish I would have done it earlier. Go for it!! -
Before the fill, I can eat whatever I want. I try not to eat too much though. After the fill, I need to do two days of liquids, and then two days of mushies.

Going through the process as a teen
Mariasha replied to EmilyIsSleeved's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I recently had my band at age 25. I struggled with my weight all through my teen years and looking back I wish I would have done this sooner. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you want to talk. -
My commercial aired yesterday!!!!
Mariasha replied to Hottieinaroundbody's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just curious, do they pay anything for that? It is not something I would usually consider doing but if it was significant and could help me pay off part of my debt from the surgery, I might consider... -
Your sweet spot is not a fixed amount of fluid. It is the feeling that comes with it. The amount of fluid needed to achieve that feeling will keep changing as you lose weight.

He doesn't need to know now. If things progress and get serious you can tell him then.

Sushi is always a good option -
PB stands for productive burp, which is basically a burp that brings food up with it. It is when you eat something without chewing it enough, or something your body can't handle, and it won't go down, so it comes back up.

Bandster hell is the time immediately following surgery when you do not yet have a fill. The doctor won't give you a fill because your body needs time to heal from the surgery. Without a fill you will not feel and restriction so you will be hungry just like before the surgery. This is the hell people refer to because you've made the bold move of going ahead and having the surgery, but you are not seeing any of the results or feeling the benefits of it yet. Personally, I never had bandster hell, felt not hungry from the beginning. Best of luck with your surgery!

You are having a hard time eating now due to swelling from your surgery. This gives you a sensation of feeling full. Don't worry about not eating enough now. This feeling will pass in a few days and you will be able to get back to your diet. Just try and make sure to drink enough to keep yourself hydrated.

Did your doctor require a pre op diet? The point of the pre op diet is in order to shrink the liver and stomach and help avoid complications like this from happening.

Can you feel the food pass through ??
Mariasha replied to Whillow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't feel it passing through, but I sure feel it if something gets stuck! If you are feeling food as it passes through it may be a sign that you are not chewing your food well enough. -
Did you have to do pre-op diet??
Mariasha replied to THEMAXWELLFAMILY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It definitely can't hurt to do it. My doctor is very strict about it - if you you don't do the two week liquid diet, he won't do the surgery. The reason for the pre-op diet as mentioned above is in order to shrink your liver. The doctor needs to lift up your liver and go under it in order to place your band. If you have a big fatty liver (as many of us overweight people do) then he may not be able to perform the surgery properly. -
I may have a flipped port and need to have surgery to have it fixed. I was a self pay for my surgery and have no insurance. Can any of you give me an idea how much this procedure cost you? Also, is it performed under full or local anesthesia? Thank you

So I was reading through the forums and I see different people react differently to steak. Some people get it down fine, while for others it's a big no no. I'm a month post op and so far I have been able to eat anything I tried so long as I chewed it well. I'm going to try a small piece of steak and see how it goes. My question for those of you who do eat steak. Does it make a difference how well you have your steak done? I usually eat my steaks rare or medium rare, but I'm wondering if a better cooked steak might go down easier. Please share your experiences. Thank you!

Post-Op Q: How Long Until Your Hunger Returned???
Mariasha replied to 2beskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Took me a couple of weeks till it really kicked in. -
Thanks everyone for your responses. I cooked myself a medium rare steak last night. I cut it up in to small pieces and chewed it well. It went down fine - no problems! I did feel full after just a few bites though

Can't feel anything
Mariasha replied to CammieHeflin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Perfectly normal not to feel anything now. The time after surgery is for healing, not for losing weight. The weight should start to come off after your first fill, but it may take a few more till you hit your sweet spot. -
