Have you asked your doctor? They probably have a standard practice regarding when/if they use them.

Finest Thing In Texas Since My Sleeve
shangefan replied to qdiesel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is spectacular! Congrats on your amazing immediate success. I think you can anticipate things to slow as you get closer to your goal and as you increase your caloric intake, so I wouldn't worry too much about getting too skinny. -
Glad it went well. Don't worry, you will continue to feel better as the hours go by.
-
As soon as you can get them into your grubby little hands! I've never heard of anyone restricting them afterward.

I went back eight days after surgery. I felt well enough and had enough energy to go back several days earlier. But I agree that it varies greatly. Some people take weeks off.
-
Some people have them. My doctor typically uses them for people who have revisions from lap band to the sleeve and they stay in place for two days. I apparently came out of surgery with one but ripped it out while in recovery. I have no memory of that, of course. They didn't bother to reinstall it.

Driving After Surgery
shangefan replied to Texarkolina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on July 9. I stopped taking pain meds on July 11 because I felt I did not need them. I got home on Friday, July 13. I did lots of driving the next day and have driven as I normally would. I do think that most docs say 24 hours after you are off pain meds. -
Congrats! You won't regret this investment.
-
Glad your experience has been great. I was there last week and had a wonderful experience, too.

Maybe I am one of the few who never had doubts, even in the immediate time afterward. I am just a week out but I am already loving my sleeve and feeling like it is the absolute best thing I have ever done. I have had an incredible recovery, am losing weight and am full of energy. I'd do it again in a moment. Now, I AM getting a little bit tire of the food choices, but I know they will soon increase, so I am ok with that.

Many congrats on all of your success and your coming bundle of joy!

That is excellent! Congrats.

2 Months Post-Op: Biggest Problem With The Sleeve!
shangefan replied to disneyteach's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK, you should definitely do what works for you. It isn't a problem for me and I know it is the approach many people take. -
2 Month Anniversary

I agree with the above, but also be sure to check out thrift stores and resale shops. You would be surprised at the quality things you can sometimes find. -
2 Months Post-Op: Biggest Problem With The Sleeve!

Could you just let them bring you the water and not drink it? I mean, it is free and would save you some harassment. -
Protein Shakes?
shangefan replied to Changing B4YourEyes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only point I would make is that the Unjury has lots of protein. -
Protein Shakes?
shangefan replied to Changing B4YourEyes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that is a great plan. When I was at the recovery house, they made the broth in the way that you described and it was delicious. -
Protein Shakes?
shangefan replied to Changing B4YourEyes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the unjury chicken soup. The only problem is that you can't make it very hot or the consistency changes and it because undrinkable. You have to use hot tap water, which is not ideal. -

You also might be able to take advantage of an eldercare program. Check with your local agency that handles children and elderly. And when you mentioned losing your home, I assume you meant foreclosure. Be sure to check with your local nonprofit housing agency because there are many programs to help prevent foreclosures. If there is a way for you to obtain support in person, I encourage you to do so. At the very least, see if you can find a support group for sleevers. The practice you used should have one, but if not, look and see what else is available. They usually are open to anyone.

Well, this is it! I leave my hotel for the surgeon's office in a couple of hours. Like those who have gone before, I can hardly believe it. My life is about to change forever! I appreciate the prayers of those who believe in prayer (I do!) and the well-wishes of all. I am mildly nervous, but nothing major at all.

There are many excellent doctors performing the surgery in Mexico and you can't necessarily determine their value based on price. Do your research and go with the person with whom you feel most comfortable.

What Did I Do To Myself ?
shangefan replied to Karrina-D's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is good advice. I would also say that I had sliming several times with my band and it was truly unpleasant, but it really is avoidable (at least with the band) when you follow Dooter's advice.
