I will have five days of liquids pre-op. I told my coordinator I as going to start earlier to jump-start my weight-loss and she advised against it, saying she felt it would be hard and I would be tempted to cheat toward the end. Hmmm. Anyway, you will make it through and all will be well!

Good And Bad News Today!
shangefan replied to I am done mooing!'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The insurance company is making you wait 30 days to add you back because of THEIR error? That is a problem. When your insurance is back in effect, can you go to another surgeon who performs the surgery? -
No "pre-Diet" For Me!
shangefan replied to gallogirl99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have liquids for five days pre-op, so it isn't as bad as lots of folks. -
Thanks for posting this. I had seen it before but could never find it again.

Some People Just Don't Get It
shangefan replied to StrangelyNormal's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I hear you. I really don't think people intend it as sabatage. I think we live in a culture in which so much revolves around food that it is difficult to conceptualize anything different. It is the way that we entertain, celebrate and show people we love them. So it is hard when we decide to make different choices. Good luck to you! I know you will be able to stay the course. -
Congrats on being so close! As someone who is revising from the band to the sleeve, I think you are making the right decision. I am sure there are people who experience success with the lapband, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Pre-Sleevers...ask The Surgeon If He Places An Abdominal Binder.
shangefan replied to beautifulnewme2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It isn't a problem for the incisions? I plan to ask my coordinator about this, too. -
Congrats! You will do well.

Work it! Looking great.

I work full-time and am working on a second graduate degree in the evenings. I will have a couple of weeks between the time I a sleeved and when my summer course starts. I think it will be challenging but doable.

41 To Be Sleeved June 25
shangefan replied to Looking Ahead's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The other thing that is fascinating to me about this thread is that at 42, I always still think of myself as very young! Perhaps I am in denial. -
You will do great! I am looking forward to next week for you!

I am 42 and can hardly wait! I'm looking forward to being down a lot by the time I turn 43! I'm already planning for my fabulosity. -
Yeah! Congrats to you!

Walk! Physical activity is going to be the best thing and you probably can't do anything more vigorous than walking at this point. GasX is really dealing with intestinal gas and that isn't your problem.

Medicare Will Not Pay/support The Sleeve
shangefan replied to sdb1147's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As a person revising from lap band to the sleeve, I wouldn't necessarily recommend the lap band. It seems as though some people have great success (and I did for 18 months) but it is slow and the long-term failure rate is pretty high. That said, I am certain you will consider all of the factors and make the right decision for you, even if it is lapband. -
Just Got My Surgery Date!
shangefan replied to Amytequilahouse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wonderful! -
I am revising from a band to a sleeve in Mexico with Dr. Almanza in July. My PCP is on board. But the local bariatric group I have been seeing also is supportive. I actually received the band before I moved here. When I moved her, I started going to this group. They have been great and actually suggested the revision. My insurance did not pay and they charge $18K for cash pay, so they were very supportive when I told them I have scheduled for Mexico. They said they are invested in my success and and want me to do whatever I feel is necessary. They also asked me to make an appointment with them upon my return so they can check stitches, discuss my diet and generally make sure I am OK. I feel very fortunate.

I can't answer whether they are a good alternative or not, but I just happen to be eating some right now. The lightly salted ones are 1 g fat, 9 g carb, 1 g fiber and 5 g protein per serving. So, I suppose compared to chips, they are good.
