Its Getting Closer ( The Surgery Day)So I Am Freaking Out
shangefan replied to Ready for the new Lay-Lay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think driving restrictions relate to stitches. When I received the lap band, the doctor OK'd driving as soon as I was off pain meds. I think it is the same with this procedure. I think the bigger concern is whether you will have the level of energy that your job requires. And the barbecue thing will be a no-no. -

Smaller Shoe Size?
shangefan replied to GeauxForIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lots of people reported that their feet got smaller after losing weight -- sometimes as much as a full size. I know that my shoe size has changed based on my weight. -

KS Dallas, I am a day before you and I am worried that I am a bit obsessed right now. I am grateful that I have a super busy schedule until then; perhaps that will help the time to move more quickly. You are very fortunate that you will have several weeks to recuperate. Right now, I plan to return to work after eight days. I am currently taking off vacation time, but I might switch that to sick time. ChristyLove, I also was told not to begin the pre-diet yet. I thought it would help me to get into practice and help me to jumpstart my weight loss, but my coordinator said they don't want me to do that because I might be tempted to cheat later. I get it. In response to your question, the statistics I have seen indicate that people should expect to lose 75-80 percent of their excess weight, although many people clearly exceed that.

Is This A Problem For Anyone Else?
shangefan replied to It's all new's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that if the relationship is important to you, it is essential that you calmly explain how this makes you feel and discuss a different way of interacting. I also would point out that his focus on discussing food seems new. His response will let you know how to move forward. -

Surgery Date May 30Th. Started Pre-Op Clear Liquid Diet Today.
shangefan replied to CatalinaK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is going to be more than all right: it is going to be fantastic. In a few days, your surgery will be done and you will be on to a healthier -- and better -- life. I know it is hard, but I encourage you to figure out ways to take your time off food. You will have a number of activity restrictions for a while following surgery, so maybe you can do some work around home or that kind of stuff. The bottom line is that lots of folks have made it through and so will you! You are courageous and will not regret this! -
Yippee! Rock on!

Not "hot checks!" LOLOLOL!

I have a lapband and am scheduled for revision to a sleeve in July. It is possible that that lapband will work well for you, but I could never recommend it. Like others, eating was always a chore when I had it. Even when I was "full," it was a feeling a not being able to eat more, but not of feeling un-hungry. Does that make sense? The pouch seemed full but the hunger was not fulfilled. Also, there were soooo many foods I couldn't eat. Most importantly, although I lost weight in the first year, I never reached what is referred to as my "sweet spot." I had lots of fills and unfills. Because I never got to a "sweet spot," I stopped losing weight and, in fact, have regained much. That is not to excuse myself of any responsiblity; it is to say that it was not an effective tool for me. I paid cash for the surgery because my insurance had an exclusion for weight loss surgery, so every fill, unfill or doctor visit was cash payment, too. Over time, that added up to a lot of money. And though I am now in a different job and have different insurance, it, too, has an exclusion for weight loss surgery. So now I am paying cash for the revision. The major appeal of the lapband to me was the "reversible" nature of it. I literally thought they would be able to simply go in, take it out, and it would be like it had never been there. Naive, I suppose, but I don't think uncommon. Had I known about the scar tissue that would be created from having this foreign item in my body, I would have added that to the list of possible negatives. I cannot wait to have my revision surgery. And while I know people who have had success with the lapband, they have been few and far between. It might be right for you, so you definitely need to do your research. But add me to the list of nays. Good luck!
