Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor 3 months banded...
JulesJAC24 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My name is Julie, and I was banded on August 21. I'm 27 years old, married for nearly 9 years, and have 2 children, ages 7 and 11 months. Even though I have been banded for nearly 3 months, I still feel as if I have no idea what I am doing. I have been a member of Weight Watchers, and though I continue to go to meetings for motivation, I sure as heck don't feel like I get support there - the attitude towards WLS there is very negative, and so I've kept the fact that I am banded to myself. Pretty much the only people that know I'm banded are my husband and my mother - I'm hesitant to really talk about it with anyone else because I'm just not sure how they will react. So basically I just need someone to talk to about this journey! What it meant for you to be banded, how you made it through, what kept you going... that sort of thing. Thank you in advance! Julie -
I have been experiencing the same thing the last few weeks. Immediately after my banding in August 2008, I would get intense pain in my back (around where my kidneys are) that would indicate I had overeaten. Then, that stopped and instead I started getting like an ice cream headache feeling after eating. I went in for my second fill two weeks ago and since that fill, I have been continuously hungry and can eat basically my pre-op portions. I have even wondered if maybe they took Fluid out and didn't put more in... I don't know, but to have less restriction now after my second fill than I did 3 weeks ago is driving me potty. I'm just hoping I don't get any flack when I phone them up to schedule my next fill (can we do it tomorrow, please?!) since it's only been 2 weeks since my last one. I googled this because I figured I might find something, and thank goodness I did! I thought I was losing my mind. You're totally right - it's more like a brain freeze that doesn't go away for a while. For a week or two post-op, I would get a pain in my kidney area after I ate even very small quantities of food. Then the headache started, and it's like that every time I eat or drink. :-( Maybe I'm still eating too fast?

Stabbing pain in shoulder
JulesJAC24 replied to tqtena's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually thought this pain was worse than the pain immediately after surgery! I called my surgeon's office in a panic because I thought something was wrong. The nurse told me that it was the leftover carbon dioxide that they use to inflate my belly for surgery. She advised breathing deeply at least several times per hour (she advised while I was watching TV to breathe deeply during the commercials). Whether that was the actual cause or not, the breathing seemed to help and it went away after a couple of days. Best of luck - this was not fun!
