1 Year Post Op and ONLY 27 lbs down!!!!!
Weas123 replied to Tigger_Shorty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dude, that really sucks. I'm almost 1 year out and I'm, like, almost 80 pounds down. Have you considered removing the band and getting bypass? The band dosen't work for some people... believe me, it's not your fault at all, so don't feel bad. You're only human and if you made mistakes, so be it, but it's been a year and you must have tried some time in that year. PLEASE don't feel bad and don't get down on yourself. You have depression, this is the last thing you need to add to your problems... it if not your fault at all... do not blame yourself for trying because you have. However... Seriously, consider the bypass. I know that we HATE the bypass here, but it seems like something you should look in to. -
I miss being stared at wherever I go, I miss wearing a size 24 and having my jeans dig into me, I miss being the fattest person in the room, I miss not being to just pic up clothes and buy them, I miss not shopping at Victoria's Secret... ... Oh wait, no I don't. I love my life with the band. To me, it is the best invention EVER and I don't regret one single aspect about it. Believe me, no one loved bread as much as I did, but Is adi goodbye to it the day before surgery and have never missed it. I don't mind chewing, because it makes me look lady like and proper while everyone looks like a pig. I don't mind not having soda because it causes osteroporosis, anyway. Don't be talking sh*i about my band... lol... :-) I'll have none of that!

I live in So Cal and I see these Lap Band Billboards ALL over the place that say, "Want to lose 50 pounds or more? Get the band!" It's SO cheesy and cheap looking! It makes the band look like this stupid thin-quick scheme. The Lap Band website obviously says, "for people who want to lose 100+ lbs." I can't believe this!

I miss food--but not because I am hunrgy!

There is a difference between physical and mental hunger. The band is a tool, so use it wisely. -
Am i just not getting it???
Weas123 replied to camrayne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could be that you're not chewing enough, but my guess is you're overfilled. Go on a liquid diet for 24 hours and then drink some water... does it go down? If you have a hard time getting it down, you're definitly overfilled. You need to contact your doctor, not ask the people on this website because it sounds like you're on the road ot being malnourished. -
Just regular skim milk... maybe Nesquick chocolate milk as a treat.

I don't think it's doing a good job of "getting the word out," actually. I think it's misleading and discredits the people who have the band and are serious about it. It shows some woman on a scale with a quizzical look on her face like, "OMG I gained 4 pounds... how did this happen?" So, naturally, her plan is to lose 50 pounds is to get the band. Seriously... how much weight did you/ are you planning to lose? I'm guessing it was over 50. The website says, "for those who want to lose 100+ pounds." It's redicilous and I think cheapens the wonderfulness of the band. Yes, the band is wonderfully helpful and an amazing tool, but I don't like the way it's being portrayed here.

Do you *REALLY* want to know what the band is like????
Weas123 replied to Weas123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What are some more complaints we have??? ... oh, I have one... I don't huff and puff and take three years to walk from my car to wherever I want to go, so I'm always early and can never get timing right when I need to go somewhere... gosh. -
I think you should STOP EATING SOLID FOODS!!! The post op diet sucks, yes... but you have to remember that the band is not a cure for an eating problem, it's a tool to help you and right now, your tool is working at 10%. You need a fill, of course, to get the REAL difference. With that being said, the post-op diet aint' for nothin', hon. You can seriously damage your band and your stomach if you don't follow the post op diet. You will be able to eat food just fine, but your stomach is healing... it just underwent a MAJOR change and needs time to adjust. You eating liquids, then semi-solids *is* that time it needs. Stop eating solids. Do you really want your whole surgery to be for nothing RIGHT BEFORE you get a fill and start seeing real results???

I'm so gald my post is helping all these great, strong women!! Keep it going, everyone! -
Okay, I've lost a lot of weight, and I went from a size 11 shoe to a 9. What the heck? Anyone else experience this? WHY?!?!? Did I lose feet fat?

I get drunk WAY faster... I think the alchol is absorbed faster into the system now. Two drinks and I'm out like a light. Not good to drink a lot though, because mixed drinks have a lot of cals.

I had to stay over night and it was MISERABLE. If you have any choice, don't stay overnight. I got zero sleep; it was just so bad. AFter I went home the next morning, I wasn't in much pain (I call the Lap Band a "nothing surgery" because there is so little pain and the revocery time is so short). I wouldn't reccomend driving, though, because it wouldn't be safe. If you forget everything else, don't forget a pillow to put between you and the seatbelt. I forgot mine and it was painful (but I would NEVER not wear my seatbelt)... so, there it is...

Too tight= no weight loss?
Weas123 replied to lifechange82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow... I was banded 10 months ago and I've lost more than twice that amount, so something is definitly wrong if you have fills. What do you eat on a daily basis? The band is not a cure all, there is some diet involved and it sounds like you're not eating the right foods... if you were, the weight would be off. -
Gettin Banded 2moro 16/01/2008
Weas123 replied to sam88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have a pre-op diet (be jealous... lol)... Anyway, as far as banding, it's a nothing surgery... you're in and out with just a little pain, so don't be scared at all. The 2 month liquid diet is pretty brutal, but you HAVE to do it, so there really isn't a choice. The weight coming off... now that's the BEST part. -
My mom came back with an abnormal EKG and they cancelled her surgery.

The best advice you will ever get regarding the band:

When you have food stuck, DON'T DRINK ANYTHING! Your first impulse will be to drink some Water to get it through, but it just makes it worse. :tongue2: (<-- you if you drink water when something is stuck) ___________________ Update: When something gets stuck, you will know it. It feels like there is food, literally, sitting in your throat (not a choking feeling, though)... it's not painful at all, it's just uncomfortable. For the first couple months I ahd my best fill, I carried around a bag in case I had to chuck (luckily never had to use it!)... It won't last forever, it comes up or goes down, one way or the other... just let it be and ride it out... don't drink water! -

Bump it up -
I'm not going to lie, the sticking food and the puking isn't fun. The rest is, though! Puking aside... it's totally worth it. I would do it again in a New York minute.

What's wrong with a little dessert? Everything in moderation is fine :-)
