I thought that the purpose of the pouch is to hold the food for a few hours while it digests...then slip through the pouch into the lower stomach. The food siting in the upper pouch is what gives us the full feeling and the signal to STOP eating, then takes 2-3 hrs to digest thus giving us the saiety we need. If the food slips through the band with every bite then how is that helping??? I guess I didn't do enough research first and dont understand the physiology of the process. The stuck feeling , everyone says, is the bite of food taken gets stuck over the top of the band and is not slipping through properly for various reasons. My food gets stuck almost every time and is very very painfull, no matter how well I chew or how small a bite I take. Ice cream is the only thing that does not give me pain, and we know why that is dont we?

Yes I had these from two days post op for 1&1/2 weeks. They are terrible and I got these attacks usually in the late afternoon. It was not dependent upon eating, I even got them o an empty tummy. My only relief was to lay down for an hour or two. the pain would subside as soon as I layed down, but I had to stay there to keep the pain from re-occuring. It was usually accompanied with a PB of just saliva. It finally went away and has not returned in the last month or so since they stoped. I got my first fill this past monday on 10/20, I was concerned that it would return, but it hasn't. PRAISE GOD! It was so painfull. Now I still have trouble with food getting stuck, but that is a different pain. But I think some people might get the two mixed up if they have never had the spasms, they might be confused that the stuck feeling could be spasms NOT!

The best advice you will ever get regarding the band:

:embaressed_smile:cfuture88 Your advise seemed to be the best for me personaly, But every one (so far that I've read) says that the stuck feeling is not painfull just a feeling of discomfort. I have terrible pain during the stuck feeling. And it is in the upper stomach area rather than the esophagus or throat. Is this different than a "stuck feeling"? My big question is: I thought that the purpose of the pouch is to hold the food for a few hours while it digests...then slip through the pouch into the lower stomach. The food siting in the upper pouch is what gives us the full feeling and the signal to STOP eating, then takes 2-3 hrs to digest thus giving us the saiety we need. I was banded on 9/15/08 this is the week I am suppose to be on mashed potatoes consistincy. Well yesterday (Sat.) I was at a conference and couldnt leave and didn't bring anything to eat. When lunch time came I took one of the lunches provided and thouth "maybe there is something in here I could get down" I took a chance and consumed the hamberger patty only, nothing else. But I chewed it up to kinda make a muchy consistancy, Then it was going down so well that by the end of the patty I was just eating it as I mormally would and I didnt have any problems wih it. Then later I tried an enchalada with beans & hamberger, no problem with that either. I added some ground turkey to a soupy rice dish that I had made at home for this weeks consistancy. Adding the ground turkey was an afterthought to being able to consume other solid foods. Ive been eating a cup to a cup & 1/2 at a time. I know this is too much but I dont get stuck or seem to have a problem with it. I know this probably means I need a fill, but what do I do in the mean time? I'm tecnically not suppose to start pureed foods till Thursday. I dont have an appt with my surgeron till the 8th. Can I just eat what I want but following a better diet regime, or stick to the higher carb soft food???

I'm lost, is this where I am suppose to put my first post? I clicked on FAQ and it said that page could not be found. Is "a new thread" the same thing as a new post? I just found at the bottom of the page the button that said "new thread" My surgery was a week ago Monday and I am having some pain issues with what someone called esophageal spasms. Any one heard of them???

one can of tuna is basically 1/2 a cup, right? That is what we are suppose to be able to consume at each meal after we reach optimum band restriction. So I dont think you need to worry about that one can of tuna with no fill yet. thats good protien. you go girl!

Okay, call me a dummy, I still cant seem to figure out how to post on the general "new posts" section. What is the difference between a post and a thread? Thank you, Dneise

Hello, Justy wondering if this will get a post on the "new Posts" section. Great to be a part of this. Still trying to figure out where everything goes. How do you get one of those cute little count down scales so many of you have?
