    surgery 9/29/08 ....NOW IM HUNGRY!!

I was banded on the 29th also. Yesterday I went to get my stitches out and to see if I would be ok for my first fill. Well I was healed nicely and got my first fill. I had it built up in my head that it was going to awful but for me it wasn't. I was stuck three times in total. I have felt hungry also since my surgery and I resorted to eating some potato soup. It was a pretty "stick to your ribs" type of soup and very satisfying so that was good for me. I lost 19 pounds on my pre op diet, 2 weeks of Protein and Water. I lost 7 pounds after the surgery and I am down another 1.5 now so 27.5 pounds in total. That is pretty motviating but I need to start walking regularly. I am on liquids for a couple of days, then full liquids for a few days then back to mushy foods. Oh another thing that seems very satisfying to me is a popsicle, maybe because it takes time to eat. I have been eating the frozen fruit on a stick kind, just fruit no sugar or anything. Also I have made up my own popsicles using V8 fusion so I can get some fruits and veggies in. The strawberry banana is yummy. My palate is changing which I am happy about but I sure do wish I could have had a little spaghetti that my family ate last night :-) Laura

    Sept. Samurai Surgery Check-in

Had my surgey on Monday. I seem to be doing ok. The kept me overnight in the hospital because of severe nausea and the 3 hour trip back home :cursing:. Hubby drove me home yesterday and I slept all but maybe 2 minutes of the trip LOL! I feel ok today, still some nausea, very tender on the right side. Everything went well the doctor told me and I had the best nurses and docs taking care of me. I have lost 18lbs since September 16th and I can't wait to lose some more(102 to go) Laura Surgeon Dr. John Price St Lukes Hospital in Kansas City MO
  3. I am having my surgery on the 29th and I just started my second week of my liquid diet. I am down 12.5 pounds and have 107.5 to go. I was going to get the realize band but have, at the last minute, opted for the lapband ap system. I liked the realize support but when I saw it inflated and looking a bit triangular I liked the look of the ap better. I am very excited about starting this journey. Currently I am just working out with my Wii Fit which is quite a work out! I have purchase a heart monitor to keep me in zone as per the exercise physiologist at the docs. I also use a really cool pedometer to keep track of my steps. I am a bit underwhelmed doing my post op shopping. I am finding nothing but artifically sweet things and things that are very salty. I am spending this week making broth, Soup and home-made popsicles. Glad to be here and be a part of the September folks Laura
  4. Surgery is 3 days and a wakeup away! I am staring to think more and more about it of course. On my liquids I have lost 13.5 pounds. I have "cheated" though and the guilt is killing me. I am not hungry, stomach wise, but my mental hunger is still there. Please tell me someone understands that. I am used to eating even when I am not hungry. This battle is going to be mostly mental for me anyway. I am spending time this week making homemade Soups and pureeing them, then freezing them. I hate how much sodium store bought soups have. I am going to be making homemade popsicles today and homemade chicken broth so I should be set. I haven't had the surgery yet, obviously, but I scared to death of my first fill. My doc does mainly bypasses and sleeves but since he is an insurance provider that is where I needed to go. He does first fills at 2 weeks post op and I am worried about it. We live 3 hours one way away from the doc so I can't just come back in a few days or so if he tries and it doesn't work...especially not with gas prices :-)! The bad thing is walking around WalMart last night is I saw a lot of people just like me, morbidly obese. It is so sad to me that this surgery isn't easier for people to get if they need it. Seeing those folks renewed my wanting to do this. I want to be healthier and I want to look better :tongue2:. My hubby was helping me take off my bra last night cause it was hurting so bad on my shoulders, he saw the bruises the straps had caused and he just said, you need this surgery, you are going to feel so much better very soon. He is a sweetie, said what I needed to hear! Laura

    Copays?? Noway!!!!

My hubby is a Marine and we have Triwest. The process has been easy, the only drawback is the nearest provider is in Kansas City Missouri and we are in Wichita so I have to drive 3 hours one way to my doctor. Triwest reimburses us for gas and for tolls so that is a blessing too. The way I found out I had been approved is Triwest called me! I was so surprised. They also told me someone would be calling me after surgery just to make sure I was doing ok. I have to say I am impressed with them. I have not had to pay one cent for anything, the Tricare office on McConnell made my appt at the sleep clinic and I had the psych eval done on base. I went to the surgeons office for dietcian and exercise physiologist. I have had a good time of it so far and expect nothing but this in the future. I am scheduled for Monday Sept 29th Laura
