  1. I was banded 9-2-08. Everything seemed to be going fine and then 2 weeks after surgery I started itching all over and wherever I scratched I broke out into hives. I am wondering is this an allergic reaction to something else or to the band? I went to my family doctor and he said it could've been something I ate (which I doubt since I am on a liquid diet and I haven't changed the foods I've been eating) or possibly something else which I may never know. I hope it's not the band but is it possible to have an allergic reaction 2 weeks after surgery? My family Dr. gave me a steroid shot and put me on prednisone and an antihistamine, it is controlling the itching but what if it doesn't go away this week when I stop taking the medicine?
  2. I got my first fill two weeks post op and ever since then I get these sharp pains under my port. Usually I get them when I am laying down or when I roll over in bed sometimes it feels like I'm being stabbed. I asked my DR and he said it is the nerves that are irritated. I hope it goes away soon it has been going on for 4 weeks.
  3. I had my surgery on 9-2-08. I arrived at the out patient surgery at 6 am, my surgery was scheduled for 9:30. I check in and paid my $200. co-pay and waited just a few minutes. Then we were taken back to the pre-op area where I got weighed and vitals and a pregnancy test! (thought it was funny) and then I went to the area where they had the bed and hospital gown waiting for me. I got undressed and then was asked 100 questions. The nurse was very nice. She gave me a shot of heprin which stung a lot and then put those things on m legs to prevent clots. She started my IV and the DR. came in and said hi and said I was next in line there was one lap-band patient in front of me. I remember the nurse telling me she was going to put something in my IV and I would still be awake but wouldn't remember anything after that point. Which turned out to be true because next thing I knew I was woken up in recovery. I faintly remember them sticking something under my back and doing an x-ray. I kept dozing off and my mouth was very dry. Soon I was taken into a different recovery area where I had to get out of bed and sit in a recliner. Then they allowed my husband's granny to come in. (she took me to surgery my husband couldn't get off work) I had a horrible pain in my chest. The nurse said it was probably gas that they inject gas into your body during surgery so they can see better. ??? has anyone heard of this?? Anyways that was the only pain I remember right after surgery. Then he brought me some water and said I could leave as soon as I could go pee. So soon I was off to the restroom. Then Granny helped me get dressed, and we got our post-op instructions and perscriptions and we were on our way home. I was home by 2pm. My husband got home from work about that same time and he went to the pharmacy to pick up my perscriptions. I layed on the couch and went to sleep. I only took my pain medicine (liquid lortab) that night and the next night, I really didn't have much pain. Don't get me wrong there was pain, the day of surgery I felt like I was hit by a truck. Over all it was a pretty good experience.

    Sharp pain...please help

thank you I was afraid something was going wrong.
  5. I had my 1st fill last wednesday and since then sometimes I get a sharp pain like a needle stick around the area where the port is. It wasn't really that bad except for last night I woke up in the middle of the night (baby was crying) and I went to sit up and had the worst pain ever, it felt like a knife stabbing me in the stomach. anytime I moved it hurt like I was being cut. I am going to the doctor tomorrow so I will ask him but I am just wondering if anyone else has ever had this kind of pain.

    Bowel issues?

after my surgery I was told no sugar so I had sugar free jello and popsicles, and I had the same problem you're having. When I went for my 2 week check up I was told to cut back on the sugar free stuff. The sugar substitutes can sometimes make you have diarrehea or close to it. Since I cut back on all the sugar free stuff my problem has gone away.

Am I alone here? My first fill hurt!

I went for my 1st fill last wednesday, which was 2 weeks post-op and it hurt a lot too. my DR said the 1st always hurts a lot because the stomach is still sore from surgery, but if your surgery was a month ago I wonder why yours hurt so much. Now I'm a little scared, I go for another fill tomorrow. A friend of mine says her DR gives her a shot to num the area before he sticks the needle in but mine doesn't, so I'm afraid it is going to hurt everytime.
  8. Hi I am new here I was banded on 9-2-08. My beginning weight was 231 and my current weight is 223. Tomorrow will be my 3 week anniversary and I'm kind of dissapointed that I've only lost 8 pounds. I know it is better than nothing and everything I've read says you should lose 1-2 pounds per week but I thought I would've lost more here in the beginning being on a liquid diet. Actually right now I'm not on a strict liquid diet I am eating small amounts of mushy food like boiled eggs and pinto Beans, since these are high in Protein. Any encouraging thoughts? Also another question how do I get my weight loss ticker on here? I made one I just don't know which code to copy and where to paste it. Please help.
  9. I feel the same way all of you do. I was told 4-6 weeks liquids. I couldn't do it at just before my 2 week post-op I started mushy foods like hard boiled egg and refried beans, just a little like two little bites just to chew something. I was just burnt out on broth. the 1st week I only ate broth, jello and popsicles and of course water. it was hard. I'm glad to know that everyone else is having a hard time with the liquid diet. I'm glad I found this site I don't feel so alone anymore.

    allergic reaction to band?

PATCHELTON-- thanks actually I did have an allergic reaction to the bandages, I am allergic to any adhesive stronger than a band-aid. That happened almost immediatley and it was only where the tape was not anywhere else. I controlled that itching with a hydrocortisone cream and it was about the same time that, that problem went away that the new allergic reaction started. If I still have the hives and itching by wednesday when I go back to the surgeon I will ask him. Thanks for the help.

    first blog

Tomorrow will be my 3 week anniversay and I've only lost 7 pounds. I'm disappointed too. I was told to be on an all liquid diet for 4-6 weeks after surgery but I couldn't last that long I only lasted about 1 1/2 weeks on only liquids. I think if I would've stayed strict on broth and water I would have lost more, but it was so hard. I had my 1st band filled at 2 weeks and go every week for the next 3 weeks for more adjustments. Maybe you need a fill. I am able to tell I feel full sooner after 1st fill.

    allergic reaction to band?

I didn't think it was the band at first not until yesterday when some family members were asking if I had researched allergic reactions to the band. So that's what I was doing today and then I came across this site. I go back to my surgeon this wednesday and I will talk to him about it. thanks
