What problems or issues contributed to you being overweight?
LastOptionAtty replied to ItalianSoul's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can say I was always a little heavy just not the biggest person around. I was always very confident and smart and out going had a great social life, lots of boyfriends etc. Never felt like the 'fat friend' b/c there was always someone bigger I guess. I think things changed when my parents started going thru a bad divorce. I was in my 20s but it was still hard on me. I started dating a guy I dated briefly while in high school after breaking up with one of the best boyfriends I had and it was a rocky relationship. He was liar and a cheater. It was so bad HIS mother told me I was too good for her son. Note to self if a woman ever says that to be again (lol) anyway I got wrapped up in the drama of the relationship and it was bad and really affected my self esteem I eventually transferred to another school in another state and I wish I had the foresight to have looked in counseling when i got to Maryland...A/w I ate a lot to deal with my depression and gained easily 40 pounds between Aug and Dec. I was unrecognizable to my friends and family but I was so nasty no one said anything.. Well the ex boyfriend did and that really hurt. It was a downward spiral from there. I just used food when I was lonely, sad, depressed, angry, etc and never dealt with my emotions. As I got focused on work and school I was a classic over achiever in every way except diet and exercise. It was and is the one place I have blinders on; it’s my escape. I have been working on that in therapy for about 2 years and learning how to really deal with my emotions in a healthy way. So in a nutshell that’s my story! -

WOW I had no idea the military was so hard on their people. I knew there were weight guidelines but my goodness that is borderline abuse!!! I think that is grat that you have taken the time to gain insight into your issues that cause your weight gain! That is wonderful b/c for a lot fo people that can't see that far into the process! Looking forward to your blog! -
Wellll I found out yesterday the Dr. wants be to have a cardiac evaluation b/c I used Phen/Fen. My EKG can back abnormal and my blood pressure was super high for me when I went to my PCP. :frown:I don't like the idea of being only 33 and having an abnormal EKG...Scary...I know the 20 or so pounds I put on this fall hasn't helped my heart either. So Monday I go for the Cardiac eval. then to do the barium, CT scan, and Xray and the healthy eating class. I spoke with The nurse apparently the Dr. is away when I wanted the operation done! :mad:So either she'd squeeze me in on the 13th with 2 others before she leaves or I'd have to wait till the 27th. I wanted do it around the 16th b/c I am off 2 days from work so I would use less leave but the nurse said if I have a sit down job I could get it done on Tuesday and be back to work on Monday most people take 3 days or so to really get back on their feet. So I just emailed her back and told her I decided to go for the 30th of January. I found out my job will let you advance sick leave. I also have a umbilical hernia she will repair that at the same time so I already told my boss and two co-workers I will be out for THAT reason. I feel better about that rather than rushing this way the Dr. will be well rested and back in the office a few days before its my turn lol :w00t: So far I have only told my Mom, Dad, Sister, boyfriend and I told my old weight watchers/workout buddy I went to a seminar. She gasped and said "NO YOU DIDN'T!" I said yes I did I told her today I weighed in at 299.5 pounds and with 2 aunts who died of breast cancer, my grandmother who had diabetes and who had to have a leg amputated before she eventually passed, and my own high blood pressure I really do not have the luxury to be as lackadaisical with my health as I have been. I really didn't plan to tell her but she got into that old place we always go. "This is gonna be a good year, the new WW program is good, we can do this" rah rah and I couldn't take it anymore so i told her. She admitted that her weight wasn't too far behind mine. I didn't do any pressure tactics I just told her what I learned and then she got a call from her Mom and we haven’t spoken since. I am sure she will tell others when they see me losing weight but that's my old job and I only see them once in a blue moon and who cares anyway? I was looking at some pics I took with my bf this weekend... Man I see all 299.5 pounds in my face, belly, arms! It is funny how the mirror somehow doesn't show you how you really look its like your mind is a filter of some sort but pictures..ahhh they tell the whole story. But no worries...Moving towards my goal!

Thanks so much! I am trying to look at it like any other tool that helped me reach my goal I took Kaplan for the LSAT, Bar Bri for the Bar exam, I had a real estate agent who helped me find my dream house, and the list goes on and on. Thanks again!!

Hi All! Thanks again for the warm welcome! :w00t: I have found so much helpful information here! I am still in the ‘research’ stage although I have pretty much made up my mind to have the surgery. So I was wondering can you all share what a typical day (or a few days) is like in the life of a person with lapband is like in terms of your food (portions, etc.), fluid intake, and exercise routine. I am still playing catch up on some posts but I thought since some of you are at various post-opt stages it would still be a good re-post if this has already been discussed. Thanks!
