I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP

Tabithan: In Sept. of 2207 I too was banded with all the high expectations of success. initially I lost about 50 lbs. But I was still able to eat too large a quantity, I complained to my surgeon aboot this and he kept telling me to eat slower and make sure I was only eating 3oz at any sitting. This continued and he finallly ordered a barium swallow test and discovered my esophageous was acting like a stomach and food was stacking up in there and my esophageous was 3 times the size it should have been,so he took out all my Fluid for 3 months and my esophageous normalized and I've had 100cc put back in my 14cc band, however I feel no restriction and have given up all hope of any success, and the really crappy thing is I would see another surgeon for a second opinion but other DR.'s have no interest in seeing you or helping you if they didn't perform the original surgery, anyways that's how it's been here in Seattle. have you ever heard of "esophageal Stacking" my own surgeon has never heard of it. I've basically been left by the wayside. anyone else feel like that? I think it's great you have a new lease on life with your band, good luck and much success. Cheryl:frown::thumbup: MY STORY I was banded in March of 2007. At the time I was 299 lbs. I am a 6ft tall lady. Today, I weigh 255, and basically just as big as I was when I got my band. I have got numerous fills and I usually eat through my fiils. I can eat whatever I want. I overeat and I am confident that I have caused my stomach to expand. I snack on candy, I eat the wrong foods - I eat until I am STUFFED. Sometimes when I overeat, I feel sick and gag to relieve the pressure. I moved to Houston 4 months ago, and last week, I went in for a port-readjustment with Dr Alanis. It went well and I now have a new resolve to make it work. My doctor mentioned to me that about 40% of all bandsters fail. I do not want to be a failure. I have paid too much money to go through this. MY GOAL FOR DECEMBER To write everything I eat down, including calories To stay within 1500 Calories. What's your story? What's your goal? How can I support you? How can we support each other? Misery loves company, and company can help us move from failure to success. Please join me by telling me your story, and your GOAL for December. Let's vent - but more importantly, let's talk about strategies to make this work - let's share and support each other - Let's turn this from failure to success. I REFUSE TO BE A FAILURE
  2. :girl_hug::scared2:I have been banded for 1 year as of sept. 17th and have only lost 45 pounds, I'm grateful for any weight loss but have struggled with something called "Esophageal stacking" where my esophageous acts like a stomach and I can eat more than I should be able to.I know I have this as I had a barium swallow test done and my surgeon could see the food stacking up in the esophageous, he(my surgeon) has no answer for this except to offer to take ALL my fluid out and leave it out for 2 months then slowly put the fluid back in to see if this would correct the esophageal stacking problem. obviously I am apprehensive to do this as I'm afraid I'll start to gain the weight back. I'm wondering if a low carb diet will work for me as I've tried low carb diets prior to my lapband, always with success but then I couldn't stay on it and would ultimately "fall off the wagon" Does anyone out there think it would be different with the lap band interms of success??. Any help is appreciated as I'm feeling like a failure and feel like I have no options, other than pshchotherapy and I don't even know if that would help.

Monica escorted me to the front desk and Jessie came out and said she could do a fluroscopy for $200.00 dollars and that would show where the band is sitting and other things. I agreed and she said my esophageous is 2 times the size it should be and that my band is stretched out. Theres not much nwwls can do for me unless I want to have a second surgery . I don't have the money for that. I came home and called my surgeon . anothe option suggested by Jessie is to have all the fluid removed for a short time, hoping to shrink it back to it's original size . thanks for inviting me to the meeting. Maybe I'll see you there in March.

    Take care and good luck,

I'm asking you this question since I see you've been around a long time! I have a 14cc band currently 13.5 cc filled and was bandeed 9/07 have onle lost 47 lbs. My surgeon did a barrium swallow test after much complaining from me that I could eat any and everything without much restriction, he says I have something called "esophageal stacking" which the esophageous acks like a stomach and allows me to eat more food than I should be able to, Have you ever heard of this . he can do no more for me and suggested I see shrink to work on my ffod issues,I am very disappointed and depressed because I feel like I am all alone. any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Taffiegirl

  6. I had surgery 9/17/07 have only lost 45 lbs. and it's been a struggle all the way. I can eat anything and at too large a quantity without pain. My dr. says I have something called esophageal stacking which allows my esophageous to act like a stomach not good, though cause the esophageous to strecth, I am my wits end anybody with anything close to this, Dr.s office wants me to see a shrink, I'm considering a second surgery called mini gastric bypass, any suggestions are appreciated:mad::thumbup::thumbup:

  9. I think I am doing something wrong.

How big is your band? I have a 14cc band and just went back for my 3rd fill wednesday and he said I have a total of 10cc in my 14cc band and while I am slightly more restricted I can still eat too much. does having the protein first help to satisfy the hunger?

Have you had your 2nd fill?

I too am having a problem with feeling full on a small portion. I am going in for my 3rd fill wednesday dec. 5 and hope to notice a change as it is becoming somewhat discouraging and worrisome.I've heard it can take several fills to be full after eating a small portion. good luck to you
  13. I too am in the same boat. I had 2 fills and am going back wednesday for a third fill as I can eat way too much food without any ill effects. I am starting to feel discouraged and worried.good luck to you
  14. 3 weeks ago I had my first fill and was so excited as I thought this would be the extra help I needed to not overeat. well that is just not the case at all. I can still consume way to much food without any negative feelings such as tightness un the chest or a real sense of fullness. I have a 14cc band and initially had 3cc filled on my first fill. anyone out there with the same issues. and does a 2nd fill help??:help:
  15. I too can still eat anything I want to without the feeling of fullness until I have eaten way too much and I had my first fill on October 24, the DR. put in 3cc and I have never felt full on the 1/2 cup of food they say will satisfy you so I am going back for a second fill on nov.14 and hope to start feeling full and losing the weight. hang in there sometimes it takes several fills to feel full. good luck

I was banded on sept. 17,2007 in seattle, wa. by Dr. Ross McMahon at Swedish hospital. I have had alot of pain in left chest and extreme pain in left shoulder and underneath left collarbone. I supect it is gas, I have tried gas ex with some relief. But the biggest problem for me is getting down the protein drinks they all taste sooooo bad! any suggestions. I am currently drinking EAS from costco and I mix it with either 1%milk or crystal light.:help:

    I need advice guys!

I would say the surgery itself isn't that painful. But for me the gas has been painful. They put alot of carbon dioxide inside your abdomen to make your organs float so they can see better. The problem is you can't fart or burp this out ,your body reabsorbs it and it can take a while. the other thing is to find BEFORE your surgery is a good protein drink that you can tolerate. good luck and best wishes, dellakins
