Using Contraception after Gastric Bypass
Lesley Ann replied to Lesley Ann's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ive had to change to a contraceptive implant as i was advised that not enough information is known about oral contraception and a bypass, unless you use another form, its like playing Rusian Roulette !!!!!! :cursing: -
:thumbup:I am 7 days post op and feeling good, my surgery was carried out by Mr. Sean Woodcock and his team at North Tyneside General Hospital. Words are'nt enough to thank the surgeon, his team, nurses and staff of the hospital, my treatment and care was fabulous. Anyone in area thinking of bariatric surgery should press their gp for a referal, all in all the NHS are making it easier for us larger people to get help, it takes some commitment and a little weight loss but its all worth while in the end. Good Luck

Hi Shalonda, my name is Lesley from the UK, depending on what operation you have had, you cant eat whatever you want, I had a gastric bypass around 25 days ago and i still have to be very careful about what i eat. Every person if different, I can eat now what others cant, try looking in the supermarket for nice food that is low in fat and very low in suagr, its amazzing what you can find, also you have to eat to lose weight, not loads of food, but enough to sustain your body........

whats the deal with these Ster-Strips?
Lesley Ann replied to harliquinn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi harliquinn, I had my gastric bypass a week ago and my strips are still on, i was told a week to ten days, but i also have dressings over mine, some staff dress the wounds and others dont, if it looks as if the wound have healed, then gently ease them off with cotton wool and luke warm water, otherwise i would just leave them to drop, best wishes. -

Hi Jayne, Have you heard about Acai Berry Supplements, they are a capsule that you take twice a day and can be bought on-line, I have been taking them for 4 weeks and they are great, they really curb your appetite, they were brought about by Oprah Winfrey, when I meet you Saturday I will tell you all about them xxxxx -

Mr Sean Woodcock - Surgeon
Lesley Ann replied to Lesley Ann's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Thanks Bariatric Beauty, Its was very kind of you to reply, I guess when you are waiting for things to happen, you tend to try and get as much information as possible. Can I ask you a few more questions, if thats okay ???? How long from attending the seminar were you called back to see Sean or his nurses for the start of your tests ??? Also what kind of tests did they do and what does the psych evaluation consist of ???????? How long was it before they told you, you were eligible for surgery and what made you opt for the bypass, because thats what I would like, does Sean give you a choice, or are you just told this is what you have a chance of. I am starting a weight management and excercise class here in Newcastle along with my swimming a few times a few, the weight is coming off, slowly, I think about 4lb in two weeks, but I am finding it difficult, have they told you of a specific weight to loose ????? Sorry there's so many questions, but reply would be greatly appreciated, many thanks, lesley x  -
Around 2 weeks ago I attended a seminar with Sean Woodcock, he is the Bariatric Surgeon, i'm hoping to have for my weight loss surgey on the NHS at North Tyneside General Hospital, I have been told to go away (with some help from the local PCT) and try and get some excersise in and loose some weight. I know in approx. 8 weeks time I will get an appointment to see how far I have come along before the hospital starts doing tests, has anyone had their surgery there and what does the pre-op tests and evaluations entail ???????? many thanks x

Thanks Sassy for your reply, I guess when you are waiting for things to happen its difficult, can I ask, when did your trust finally give the goahead for your banding ??? and also was the operation scary, you see I have never had an anesthestic never mind being put out for an operation. I keep myself going by knowing that this is my last chance and its all worth it. Your reply is very much appreciated, I feel like the only person up here in the North as all the blogs etc come from the South xxx

Asked my GP to refer me yesterday....
Lesley Ann replied to katieo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Katie, I have just returned from my seminar after being referred on the NHS, it seems like a long process, but the surgeon has to make sure you have exhausted every other route before they will take your case on. I used Xenical on two seperate occasions and regained the weight back on, they want to know if you have seen any dieticians or attended any diet classes also. Its a total lifestyle change and you have got to be prepared to give it your all and do as they say or you wont get the surgery. Its best if you try the medication from your doctor first and try and stick to a balanced diet, this does work for many people, if thats no use and if you are still not happy, your doctor should refer you and the ball starts rolling from there. -
I am still waiting for my appointment to see my surgeon, Mr Sean Woodcock, North Tyneside General Hospital, but in the UK we have to have an evaluation, does anyone know what sort of questions to be prepared for ???? many thanks.

Want to go abroad for the band? Check this out.
Lesley Ann replied to Maincat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am still waiting for my consult with my surgeon to be banded on the NHS, if I dont get funding, I was thinking of travelling to Belgium to have my surgery through Dr. Chris, He has been recommended by several aquaintances. I know this documentary looks a little seedy but it just may be their companies way of settle their expenses. Remember when you go private in the UK, it is not the surgeon who receives the full payment, he is only paid a fee to operate on the patient. I think Dr. Chris is just cutting out the middleman, as such. He will be paying the clinic and its staff from his fees.:wink2: -
Hi Misty, hope your up and around soon, it'll all be worth it, kisses and best wishes

Hi there, I am waiting to see if I can go forward with surgery on the NHS to, although my BMI is now at 47, they take different medical conditions into consideration, as for myself I am not diabetic or on medication for high blood pressure, but I have chronic back and leg pain because of my weight and I dont sleep properly due to a sleeping disorder. Think about all the conditions you suffer from and ask your gp if there can write a detailed letter to the surgeons office explaining this (in other workds, lay it on thick), good luck sweetie xxx

Lesley Ann replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi there Boo Boo, I havent had my op yet, but I can see where you are coming from, A lot of it may be down to stress, start a new week a fresh, have the refil and start over, have some YOU time if you are able to, I know when I am like this, I either Swim (very relaxing) have a nice massage (or even get someone to give you one), pedicure and go to the salon and treat yourself. Dont think about the weight going on, just think, I know I can get it off because I have been down this road before. Start now, you know you can do it hun!!!! -

GG'S Lapband Journey June 2008
Lesley Ann commented on gg2007BandSTAR's blog entry in GG2007'S LapBand Journey 2008
Hi there, my name is Lesley, I am starting my journey in the hope that I may get lap band surgery on the NHS. I have just turned 44 and have been a large girl for as long as I can remember, more so in the last 11 years after being diaganosed with clinical depression, in that time, my weight zoomed from 13st to 21-22 stone and I cant do a thing about it. I have tried Orlistat medication through my g.p. I swim frequently, but the weight gain has left me with intollirible lower back pain and crippling leg aches, I have a history of diabetes and heart attacks in my family, so my concern is that I need to get the weight off before I fall victim to the same. In around four weeks I am to go and meet Mr Woodcock at North Tyneside General Hospital (Rake Lane) of whom I have been referred to, if ANYONE PLEASE HAS ANY INFORMATION ON THE PROCEEDURE AT THIS HOSPITAL, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I guess like everyone else, I just want to know if I will be funded and how long the wait will be, many thanks.
