April 2006 Bandsters - Running weight loss totals

Update for DAK: 4-4-06 - 255/251/212/150 - 43 lb. lost so far (since 4-1-06) (I noticed that there was an error on the amount shown for my total loss--should have been 30, not 50, but since I have lost a bit more, it's time for an update anyway.) -
My doctor uses some type of numbing agent prior to a fill. Mine was totally painless, quick and easy.

I have had problems with most red meat, so have switched to chicken. As long as it is not too dry or tough, I can eat almost any type of meat. I suppose you could tenderize a steak or eat a cut that is really tender like rib eye, or maybe some stewed or slow cooked meat so that it is really tender. Good luck on your weight loss journey! I am about 2-1/2 months post surgery and have lost about 35 pounds, so feel I am doing well! (need to update my ticker!) Hope you will do well with your band, too!!! :clap2:

Yes, I have PB'ed and slimed! Not too many times though cause you do remember it when it happens. At least I do remember the feeling for a few days before I do it again! Sometimes I am so hungry that I forget to take small bites and chew well enough and sometimes the food just doesn't agree with me and up it comes! It's pretty yucky, but I guess part of the learning process. I can barely drink in the morning, mostly hot liquids like coffee, but it gets better as the day goes on. My only concern is not getting enough liquids. Seems that I "forget" to drink all day and then I try to catch up in the evenings and that doesn't work too well. I try to keep a drink on my desk at work at all times and have to keep reminding myself to drink. I tried holding my breath when I feel the pressure in my chest, but it doesn't usually work too well. The best approach is to take really small bites and chew really well. Boy, is that hard to do when you are really hungry!!! :hungry:

The only person that knows about my WLS is my hubby. He had GB surgery a few years ago and is my inspiration and coach! I think that people will figure it out if I keep losing, but so far, no one has really noticed that much. I felt it was a very personal decision for me and just didn't want to have to explain to others and get those looks! It's been two months and I have done pretty good so far! It's not easy, but it appears to be working for me, especially after my first fill in mid-May! Good luck to all of you (and me!) in our weight loss journey! :clap2:

How cool! That "real age" site sure shows what our bad habits can do to us! Thanks for sharing! Now it's time to work on improving my "age" by making some better choices!

Try making the recipe provided by TheBestMe. It was great. I didn't add any thickener, onions, or ginger--just the broth, vinegar, soy sauce, and egg whites. I whisked up the egg whites real good before adding them to the boiling broth mixture and kept whisking as it cooked. It came out real soft and delicious. I really needed the protein today (day 6 post op). I'll be living off of this over the next week for sure!!! Thanks again for sharing this recipe!!

Thanks Elisabethsew, it really helps to hear that!

I had the same problem. I had surgery on 4-4-06. The surgery center gave me a plastic breathing thing that helped clear out my lungs. Hold a pillow over your stomach if you have to cough. Warm liquids have been the best thing for me so far. I am having a hard time drinking colder items. I tried egg drop soup for the first time today and it was wonderful. Hang in there. Keep slowly sipping liquids. I think it will keep getting better each day!

I really appreciate the egg drop Soup recipe. I was so tired this morning that I thought I would faint from hunger/tiredness at 6 days post op. I made some of the soup and slowly ate about 1/2 cup and it made a world of difference. I am having a hard time drinking anything especially the Ensure, Water, and juices. I can usually sip broth and coffee with Ensure added to warm it up. The soup was a real help to me. I don't know if my stomach is swollen around the band or what, but I'm having a really hard time getting anything down. The soup went down really great! And it tasted great too!! Anyone else having similar problems? Any other suggestions?

I'm a week behind you and will go to work on Monday for the first time. I'm also missing food, but having to go really slow especially with cold items. I've taken a few swallows that were too big or too close together and Lord Have Mercy! I am learning to really respect this band! Good luck to all us "newbies".
