    February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

How’s everyone doing? I’m just about a month out from surgery. I’m about to be cleared to have regular food, but I’m not hungry at all. It’s a struggle to drink and get enough protein. I absolutely hate the shakes. My sister is coming to visit today, she had the sleeve two weeks ahead of me. She likes flavorless protein powder, so I’m going to try that. Otherwise, I see my doctor tomorrow and I’m finally going to weigh myself. I have decided to just weigh in monthly, at the doctors.

UPDATE 10 mins later…. lol 😆 I peeled off the glue from my incisions! The more I thought about it I couldn’t stop myself. After peeling, they looked way better than I thought. Very well healed. 😮‍💨 Now I can start applying scar gel on them. Yay!

    February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

Hey Ron! I had my BP on the 6th. I’m doing pretty good as well. I don’t start vitamins until Tuesday a full two weeks after surgery. I guess they want to make sure I’m eating something to protect me from getting nausea. I saw my nutritionist yesterday and he said I can ease into soft foods with yogurt and cottage cheese. Luckily I love both! I was able to have about 1/2 a cup without feeling uncomfortable. I just stopped eating and I wasn’t hungry or wanting more. A few hours later same thing with a Greek yogurt. I’m so ready for eggs, tuna, cheese etc. I also was told to wear my binder for 4 weeks. It definitely makes me feel more secure. My glue is still on my incisions. I guess they put a super deluxe hospital grade glue on me. I’m not scrubbing it off or peeling it off until it comes off naturally. I’m too scared to open something up. So, good luck my friend. And everyone else hang in there with your liquid diets. It’s definitely worth it. It will make your surgery go smoother and recovery easier. 💖💖💖

    February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

Hi everyone! I had my surgery on Tuesday! I stayed two nights because they did two procedures. Taking out my lap band and doing the gastric bypass. He removed a lot of scar tissue, but that was expected. The pain isn’t as horrible at this point. I’m only on Tylenol because I’m allergic to opiates. In the hospital they gave me IV and pills to drink. Heparin and antibiotics. I’m really bruised up on my arms and generally sore from the neck down. Even my thighs 🤷🏻‍♀️. There is absolutely ZERO interest in any kind of food. I am able to drink more than I should. They want a few ounces at a time, so I need to slow down. Walking helps get rid of gas above and below. It’s uncomfortable so far not painful. I have meds for that and nausea and reflux. All to take as needed. Oh! I also had a Foley catheter for the first day. No staples, I have glue. So I can’t shower until Sunday! 🫣they sent me home with bath wipes. I’ve had some broth and most of a protein shake today so far… I’m promising my self not to weigh myself at home. I’ll wait until my follow up. Any questions, I’ll answer if I can!
  5. I think so too. I drink more than enough water, so who knows? 🤷🏻‍♀️
  6. Good to know. My nutritionist didn’t say anything about it.
  7. I have to be on a liquid diet for two weeks before my bypass. I’m on day 9 and if I’m not constipated I have diarrhea! Who knew? I’m only having extra protein Slim Fast, broth, jello, water and occasionally a sugar free popsicle. I think my GI system is out of wack!
  8. When is your new date?

  10. Hi, 👋🏽 I’m 7 days into my two week liquid diet. I’ve searched high and low for recommendations. Here’s what I’ve done so far… I found shrimp 🍤 broth, added low sodium Old Bay. It’s ALMOST like having shrimp! Skinny syrups in high protein Slim Fast flavored water packets in water and vanilla shakes sugar free jello and popsicles Sugar free hard candies, like werthers GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! if I think of any more or find a miracle way of getting through this I’ll definitely share!
  11. Thanks for that laugh! I still crack up thinking about calling our meals “ feedings”! I’m gonna steal that for sure.

    February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

Hi guys! I’m on day 5 of my two week liquid diet. My surgery is scheduled for February 6th. I have to say that even though it’s not as horrible as I expected, it absolutely does SUCK having only liquids, sugar free jello, popsicles and broth! The weird thing is that technically I only get hungry around normal meal times. I do miss actually chewing and I have super low energy and headaches. I also am having trouble sleeping. I’m all out of wack. I’m not working because of disability, so I’m thankful I don’t have to worry about WORKING. Whenever I feel bad or super hungry, I look on TikTok for before and afters for motivation. In the wee hours of the morning if I’m awake I’ll “cheat” and have a zero everything Greek yogurt. It kind of makes me feel better. I don’t think my doctor will mind, but I’ll ask tomorrow. It’s hard, but I’m trying to find distractions too. I just want this time to go by faster.
