  1. I haven't been here in forever. It is good to so many doing well. Please update me to 260 Finally hit the 50lb loss mark.
  2. I was banded Nov. 14 so three weeks out. I am on mushies until Dec. 23 then a more regular diet. My first fill is Dec. 11- so excited. I am amazed at how full I get with such a small amount. I sometimes wish I could eat more. I tried this past week to push it with refiried beans and paid for it that night- owie and back to liquids the next day. I have lost 23lbs including pre-op liquid diet.
  3. I thought it might be nice to have an intro thread. Share as much (well maybe not everything ) or as little as you want. Hi! I am Katherine or Kat. I now live in Central Arkansas but I mainly grew up in Connecticut. I have been married to a wonderful man for 16 years. He has 5, yes 5, children from a previous marriage. They are now all grown up- 32,31,27, 26,26. We have a cairn terrier named Jake- he is nut I was slender all through childhood through high school. I gained weight from 19-25 and have struggled to lose weight for the last 14 years. This summer I had a scare with my heart and high blood pressure. That is when I began to look at surgical options. I can not wait to have a tool to help me lose weight. I look forward to meeting all the other Notorious Novemberites!

    Crustless Pumpkin Pie

Since this pie has the consistency of pudding I will be making this for Thanksgiving: pumpkin Pie from Betty Crocker I will make a few changes- Brown sugar Splenda blend for Brown sugar Butter for margarine (personal preference) I am leaving the sugar as is- it is Thanksgiving afterall

    Plans for Thanksgiving?

I am making turkey salad, just like chicken salad but with canned turkey. I will also have mashed sweet potatoes. Hubby is having ham, rolls and mashed sweet potatoes. He is not much for turkey. We are having a crustless pumpkin pie for dessert. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

    Surgery was 11/14

I had surgery 11/14. I feel pretty good and am now waiting to go home. You have to love laptops and wifi. I will say that the surgery went very well. I was first up at 8am, in recovery 40 minutes later and in my room by 10am. I was up and walking around at 11am. The pain is well managed with the pain pump, hitting the button about once every 40 minutes or so. I have been walking every hour and I think that is keeping the gas pains away. I am enjoying the wonderful clear liquid diet- broth, Jello, apple juice and tea. Small sips, small sips, small sips. The only issue I have is a sore throat from the breathing tube. Hot tea is helping with that. Make room on the loser's bench- I am on my way!

    Surgery was 11/14

Good to hear you are home and are able to manage the pain. The walking does help with the gas. Hope it continues to subside so you can sip more liquids. Wishing you the best!

    should I

I would do what you are comfortable with. I started the liquids early by doing until noon then until dinner then finally all liquids when the time came. I felt the transition was easier by gradually moving to it. Good luck!

    Struggling today

Hope things are getting better now that you are on puree. The food obsession is one of my fears as well. I am hoping that it gets better as time goes on. Of course, I am also worried about what obsession will take its place.
  12. Hi Froggi! Surgery was yesterday. Surgery weight was 297

Those packets you add to water

Not bad necessarily, not great either. They do have chemicals and like you said artificial sweetener. I will say they are better than soda but not as good as plain Water. With all that I use them because when I do I drink more water. I like the Celestial Seasonings (order online) ones as the Crystal Lite ones give me a migraine. The Celestial Seasonings are called Zingers to Go and are all natural- sweetened with Stevia. I have found that they all are too kool-aid like if mixed with 8 or 16 ounces of water. I mix them with 32-48 ounces, I get just a hint of the flavor but not enough to be overpowering. I have not experienced acid reflux with any of them.
  15. Awesome job! Congratulations.
  16. Surgery date- 11/14 Highest Weight- 311 Goal weight 150 I will send the other info as I get it. Thanks for pulling this together!
  17. I have a two week pre-op diet of clear and full liquids...no solid food. I will have 3 Protein shakes a day and then a long list of sugar free, low fat items I can supplement with. S/F Jello, pudding, FF cream Soups, tea, skim milk, etc. It should be interesting since I will be on vacation in Florida for one week of this diet.

    I don't get it

You had the surgery just over 4 weeks ago on 8/26. You said you have lost 12 pounds since the surgery. That is 3 pounds per week- that is AWESOME! You can do this- once you get enough fills then you will be satisfied with less food. Hang in there.

What are we going to eat????

Hello, I am getting the band 11/14. According to the post-op diet from my Dr. low fat healthy choice cream Soups are allowed. Unfortunately, they give me a migraine so I need to find some Soup recipes I can make from scratch. Not too worried about Thanksgiving, DH and I do not care for turkey , our kids are grown and live a ways away so it will just be another day for us this year. The pre-op diet will be interesting. We will be in Florida for vacation Nov. 1-8. Good thing we will have a fridge in our hotel room so I can stock it with the liquids I can have. I just keep telling myself that this two week liquid diet is a blip in the radar of my life. I can and will do it! :cursing:

    Keeping it a secret?

My life tends to be an open book so I have told all of my family and most of my friends. The reaction so far has been very positive, especially from my Mom- she cried happy tears because I am finally accepting a tool to help me lose weight. My husband has also been very supportive, he is very willing to change what we keep in the house, more accurately what we won't keep in the house.
  24. Me, me, me! My date is Nov. 14.
  25. If you have not already, google each Dr. name and surgery complications or lawsuits as the search words.
