Hello. I have 2 new experiences: Lap band as of March 20, 2006 and now my first post and join of a site to "talk" with others! I am 6 days post Lap Band and have lost 17lbs which is very exciting...of course, I know it will slow down but will take all that I can in the beginning to keep me motivated! If anyone has any tips to share please feel free....I am open!! God Bless, Melody

Oh Tipper....you spoke my heart also!! YOu are not alone!! I was doing the same thing...even went as far as remembering how much I used to be able to eat!!! It's crazy sometimes how the human mind works!! Longing for something that has made me cry so many times!!?!?! My body rumbled and moaned and hurt...I had gas up too my ears!! I wouldn't even answer people when they said "does it hurt?" on these forums because I really did...but each day got better and better! Now I am about 19 days post op or so and I feel GREAT!!! I love the "power" I feel over the fact that I can stop and not over eat!! I love the feeling of control!!!!!!!!!! I discovered Maalox Max (liquid) honestly it gave me diarrhea....but it moved the gas!!!! I felt such relief the next day after taking it!!!!!!!!!!! I told only my husband and parents before the surgery...everyone has an opinion and I didn't want to hear them!!!! I KNOW that I have the ability to lose....I did it many times....just couldnt' keep it off....so didn't want their opinions and condemnation!!! Now I've told everyone and even told them the reason I didn't tell was I didn't want any opinions before hand and put in parenthesis (no offense)....everyone wrote only positives back! Another bit of "control" for me !! :scared: Yay!!! I have prayed and will continue to pray for you!! I truly understand!! Hang in there and it does get MUCH BETTER!!!!!! God Bless, Melody Banded 3/20/06 -25lbs--woohooo!! Banded in Dalton, GA....living in FL now!!!

My surgeon was only a couple hours away...he had me do my blood, EKG, UGI and urine tests 2 weeks before the surgery through my local doctor then the day before the test I started a liquid diet to make sure I didn't eat a big huge "last meal" and cause me problems the next day. Which I'm sure I would have if I had the opportunity!! I know me!! Hope this helps!! God Bless Melody Banded 3/20/06 -22lbs but no scale the last 5 days to check! -
Cindy ...you don't drink because you will wash your food through quicker and be able to overeat! Melody

Cindy Cam, I have lost 21lbs now at 8days!! I am excited...I do know it will slow down and much of my weight was "down the drain"....aka diarrhea post-op!! But God is good and that is gone and I have moved up to full liquids and feeling much stronger and more excited and motivated! I had a nutrition class and was reminded that the band is not "magic" and is a tool only... there is still work that I must do and this was a great reminder and the weight loss and great motivator! I googled "lap band success stories" and read MANY stories of how much people lost!! If you follow many threads on here you can find the losses and even pics!! Marilyn, Congrats on your 13 lbs...that is AWESOME!!! I have to lose probably 140lbs....I say probably as I've never been thin so not sure what I should weigh! I know what the books say...but I want to know what I look like! Will have to wait on that! Had my f/up yesterday and everything is good--praise God!! Be BLessed, Melody

I am 8 days post op (banded 3/20) and have lost great which is exciting in and of itself. I have this thing that happens that I'm not sure what it is. It is a quick thing that feels almost like a hiccup and it makes me almost yell in pain...then I go on. Burps do not hurt. BUt this thing hurts ...very quick... is it a spasm??? Thanks for any input. I can live with it....but just curious! Melody Banded 3/20/06 -21lbs Dr. Ponce Dalton, GA

Welcome Mermoore!! I pray for SUCCESS!! I had my surgery 3/20/06 so am VERY new at this...but pleased so far! Keep us posted! Melody

I was banded 3/20/06 by Dr. Ponce at Hamilton as well! I had a lot of pain as well but is much better 6 days out! I've had impressive diarrhea as well which I haven't seen listed as much. Walk-walk-walk!!! This helped so much! I am praying your not hurting by now as much! My first week has consisted of only clear liquids...starting tomorrow I can move on up to full liquids...woohoo! Although I still can't imagine eating at this point...still feel oh so full! Believing this is an answer to prayer as I asked GOd to leave me "full" for as long as He would so I might succeed! Be blessed!! Melody Band 3/20/06 and -20lbs!!

So what did you think of the informational meeting with the drs? I did most of my research online as I lived 2 hrs from the dr. I chose. I am 6days post-op and am doing SO MUCH better each day! I am loving the outcome already. I have around 160lbs to lose and have already lost 20lbs of that so far--great incentive to keep going! My husband is great support as well which is a HUGE blessing! Be blessed! Melody

Dear Maebeth--definitely not an expert I am 6 days post band. I am definitely not hungry yet...my mind has played with me a bit and things "looked good" but I am purely on liquids and it's hard to imagine real food at this point! :phanvan I know that the hunger will return but am praying it stays away as long as possible! I probably have about 160lbs to lose and praise God in 6 days have lost 20lbs....so seeing the pounds drop is HUGE motivation for me! Praying for your success!! Melody -
I'm new and am a bit anxious
MelodyJ replied to BBCooks's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
BBCooks: I am a Physician Assistant and did much research before I took this "big" step. I found the consequences of morbid obesity were much worse than the less than 1% complication risk of lap band surgery. I TRULY understand the concern of failure...the battlefield truly is the mind in this! I am 6 days post op and have already lost 17lbs. I do realize that the weight loss will slow down but will happily take whatever I can get for the jump start and this is great motivation. I have also set goals up that I can meet too feel like I am not failing or "messing up" again! It's truly all about choices....make the choice that you are VERY important and you want to choose a good quality of life! God Bless you!!! Melody
