  1. My standard reply when people begin this cr*p is to say, ‘have I ever discussed my weight with you before? No? Well I’ll not be starting now’, because my weight is not your business’ . that shuts them up. If it’s a friend, I just change the subject, but if pushed they get told, with a smile, my weight is not their concern.

    Hello 👋 it’s good to hear everyone’s progress. Things have been mixed for me as my husband died suddenly 65 days ago. Shocking to say the least. So I’m not quite sure how I’m doing really. however, my surgery has been life changing, physically I’ve never been so fit. I’m down 30kg and only 3kg from goal but have been in a plateau for around 5wks. Despite the emotional turmoil I have pretty much managed to stick to the programme, only wavering twice when I simply did not care enough to stop myself eating too much rubbish. The reassuring thing was I stopped and got myself back together. I want to be healthy, so am putting the work in. Walking and exercise, (strength, cardio, yoga - on Apple fitness) have given me a focus. When I feel lost and overwhelmed by grief I go walking. Rather that than gorge myself silly then feel even worse, as I would have done prior to surgery. There’s never a good time for a spouse to die but I’m glad I was well on in this weight loss journey as I’d be in an even worse position had I not been. My husband would be proud and happy. ❤️

Currently I’m just tired, think I might be exercising too much never thought that would be a problem I’d have to figure out! Onwards.. You take care. Hope you figure out your return to work.     Hi Lark, I was in the same position. Returning to a highly demanding job, 12hr shifts, encompassing both sitting a a computer, walking/moving and high stress, I was exhausted. I had many fears, would I manage, would I be able to eat and drink? I decided to go back after 4wks as I needed to get over that hurdle. it was tough, I work nights and days, so going back for 3nights after a month of sleeping 9hrs per night was daunting. I managed, pre-planning involved making up a box of protein drinks, 25-50g tubs of snacks, and high protein non perishables and putting it in my locker. My fluid intake was planned out, 3 x500ml bottles of water, 1x protein shake. A couple protein balls in my pocket, lentil soup for my 1am break. I think I did around 12k steps that night. So yeah come morning I was shattered. since that block of nights, I’ve also been on days, which I always struggle with anyway. There was an added problem this time, of slight reflux in the morning, which was new to me. I found a few dry crackers (10g) in my pocket helped. I can drink when sitting at my computer and if o have to run to my locker for a 5min time out and a snack I can do so. the swap from days to nights and vice versa is not easy. I am considering asking for only days for the time being, which has financial implications but might be better for my health. Do what’s right for you. I wanted returning to work over with, so I’d not worry about it. This process has been one of trial and error for me. Good luck. I wish you well o your road to health. X

    Oh my. Two weeks is too long to go without a BM. An enema is your best option at this point, but you really do have to get help as this could have serious consequences such as an obstruction. I felt awful after 3 days of constipation. Now there’s roughage in my diet there’s usually movement every other day. are you in pain? I would not be beginning to get concerned, I would most definitely BE concerned. Please seek help.

    Hi there, i’m 25 days post op and had a horrible bout of nausea yesterday. Completely out of the blue, I was out walking, stopped for a cup of weak black tea which I drank sitting outside in a bracing wind, when I stood up, it came over me like a wave. Horrid. At 10 days post op I’d had a couple bouts of nausea, mostly at night, when asleep, and they would waken me up. Treatments from my surgeon include a nightly cyclizine, stemitil wafers and a morning lanzoprazole. I was surprised to feel nauseated yesterday, cause it had been a couple weeks since the last bout. hopefully it will become even less frequent?? well done on going out yesterday. It’s good to get moving.

    Constipation has ruined 2 days or my recovery. Never experienced anything like it. Yesterday I had to use 2 sachets of Laxido to get things moving. It worked but ouch. To prevent this dictate of affairs happening again I’m going to try green smoothies and adding some fybogel to my regime. Looking forward to reintroducing vegetables to my diet.
  8. I never even attempted to go the NHS route as knew it would be years. I’d toyed with the idea of surgery for a couple years, then I suddenly thought, what am I waiting for? No time like the present so just booked the consultation. There’s only one private hospital in my area of Scotland so it was Circle Health and Prof. Bruce for me. Both outstanding. I saw the psychologist and dietician within 2wks of the initial consultation and was then cleared for surgery. Zero complaints from me about any of the process, and apart from the constipation I’ve had a very easy recovery. So easy in fact I wasn’t sure what to do with myself. I expected to suffer, and know how to cope with that as I have endometriosis, but no suffering ensued. so I feel very fortunate. I’m trying to take each day, one at a time. Last week I was panicking worrying about putting back on weight I’ve yet to lose. Eejit. So that needed to be quelled. My energy level is good, I’ve been slowly increasing the distance I walk every day, I drove after a week and plan to returning to work one month post surgery, all being well. The future looks brighter for me from where I’ve been sitting. Wishing you as positive an experience as I’ve had .
  9. From first private consultation Oct. 17th I was offered a surgery date of 28th Nov , but had holidays booked so I chose Jan 9th instead So it was quick. Worst thing I’m experiencing so far is constipation. Wow. Just wow. 😳. This is despite the 2l plus of fluids per day and a twice daily dulcolax. Heading out to get some fybogel today… wish me luck. May will soon come round for you. 💪
  10. Hey there, congratulations on your surgery date, it’s probably been quite a wait. My sleeve surgery was done 2wks ago privately in the U.K., my surgeon also works in the NHS so I presume the post op diet he uses is the same or similar for both sets of patients. within 3hrs of surgery I was sipping water, and throughout the following day I had half a milk shake, 4 spoons on soup, 2 spoons of jelly and another half milk shake. For 6 days post op I pretty much consumed protein milk shakes, protein yogurts & puddings, also Frubes, which were easy to eat, laughing cow/dairylea triangles, thin soups and cups of tea and water. At 2wks post op, I’m eating the above, but also mashed lentils (the pouches of ready made ones for ease.) liquidised bean/lentil/pea soups and hummus. All washed down with 2l of fluid per day. Trial and error over the past 2wks have taught me I need to eat small and often, as I’m rarely hungry it’s easy to forget to eat, but this is a mistake as then I do get hungry, eat too quickly, eat to much and feel rubbish. Really rubbish. I’ve found it really useful to make up little 50g pots of food, so I have a ready supply of yoghurt/protein pudding/lentils/mashed egg/lentils/hummus to grab and go. I eat 5 or 6 of these pots per day. Yesterday I had 200g of liquidised bean soup at one sitting, which was lovely and filling. my nutritionist said let your body guide you, so if you are starving at the liquid stage you may be ready for the soft diet/puree stage. At this stage she advised you can eat anything which is of a paste consistency as you swallow it. So bread sticks or Melba toast which melt and break down might be easier to eat than say a berry. I chew everything at least 20 times, so anything which arrives in my stomach is basically mush. I am a vegetarian but I read on here other people eat tuna and salmon at this stage, Hope this helps. Good luck for a straightforward procedure and steady recovery. You can do this 💪

    Really enjoyed reading your update. This is quite the learning curve isn’t it. All this AND snowy adventures 😅. It has started snowing here in Scotland too, hopefully no power cuts for me. Distinguishing when I am actually hungry has become a bit of a thing for me too. Unfamiliar territory for sure. I am now 6 days post op and it’s been remarkably smooth for me, initially felt cheated as I fully expected to suffer and was adrift when I did not suffer beyond a few reminders now and then I had actually had surgery. No particular desire to suffer but at least I know how to cope with that… (endometriosis has dominated my life for years). Last night I spent several hours ruminating over putting back on weight I have yet to loose. 🙈. The mantra for today is one day at a time 😂. No cravings per se, I am instead having soups, protein shakes, I had a soft scrambled egg which was delicious, soft cheese, yoghurt and fromage frais. Today has been busy and I did not eat until 6pm, (1x 500ml protein shake and 800ml of water though) when I had a vague feeling of my stomach being empty. Tomorrow I was nourish myself better issues I have encountered, a favourite yoghurt is no longer a favourite, eating jelly is not for me, eating slowly is better. Best wishes to everyone.     Those all sound tasty. You are very organised which is half the battle. Pickle juice is a nice flavoursome addition, I shall try that. I am vegetarian so am thinking of how to adapt your ideas. how are you finding hot foods? The soup I had today caused me some discomfort but I can easily sip away at a protein shake. Raising my arms above my head and gently twisting my torso has helped me relieve gas pains. I had a 4hr nap earlier, so although I feel fine I must be tired. Trying to remind myself this is a marathon not a sprint. Have a Good Friday. 👍

    This is a big step so it’s only natural to be nervous. I was the same but just knew there was no point doing the same things over and over to get the same result. Time for change. I wish you all the luck in the world, have faith you can do this. Focus on how physically healthy you will feel afterwards.
