I said the VAST majority !!!!! I suppose in your case, help was needed, but I have seen more cases that not where the elderly person is capable of living at home if only a grown child of theirs would take on the responsibility of their parent. Wow! talk about making it personal! You see me as an all or nothing person every time I post. In your case, you had good reason for the need of a nursing home. I work in a nursing home and see patients come and go and get to know their families personally and I can tell you that about 80% ,in my estimate, do not need to be there on the States dime!

You make elderly care sound so complicated, when in fact it's not at all. I have great experience in the field of geriatrics, and know that your fears of caring for the elderly in your home are unwaranted. If you can take care of an infant in your home, you can take care of grandma. She's just bigger, that's all. Now, I'm not saying ALL or EVERY elderly person should be out of the nursing home, but I am saying the vast majority of them ( my percentage would be approx. 80% or so)should be living with their grown children. See how the government can cut down on their spending if they tried?

Electrawoman, As a courtesy to you, and for the life of me I don't know why I feel I should be courteous, I just wanted to let you know that I have you on ignore. You are the first person here that I have ever done this to, but you are too immature for me to deal with. I prefer to talk to people who have some self esteem and don't resort to insults or childish name calling. I won't be able to view your posts any longer, and frankly, I prefer it that way. Sorry to wreck your fun! Bye now.

In order for Americans to get rid of our deficit, each man woman and child living here will need to come up with $39,000. a piece. The spending of our politicians is destroying this great Nation!!!! 1.) The government GAVE $3.8 million to build an Urban Art trail in Rochester, NY (you know some of this art was drawing on the sidewalks) Now, did we really need to build an art trail, while a great percentage of Americans are cutting their expenses at every corner and getting their overtime cut? 2.) The government spent $3 million for new bike racks in Georgetown in DC. Really! whats wrong with a sign post or tree and a bike lock, huh? was that really necessary while states unemployment agencies are in the red? 3.) The government spent 1/2 a million dollars on a skateboard Park in Pawtucket, RI (where they are laying off so many workers, it's pathetic) Did they really need to give this gift at this time to the kids there? Seriously! 4.) $578,000. went to fight homelessness in Union, NY. This would be a great cause if there were actually any homeless people in that town! There is NONE reported. They even tried to give the money back, but the government wouldn't allow it! Wouldn't allow it????!Unbelieveable! 5.) 1/2 BILLION on fish food in Missouri. Oh brother! We have hungry people in this country who can't afford to eat. Please! WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO KEEP THIS UP!!!!!

This is the rants and raves section of LBT. It is off the topic of lap bands. If you want to discuss your lap band, go somewhere else. When I first joined LBT, it was to learn more about the band. Now, I have had my band for over a year and talking about it is old news to me. Sorry to disappoint you.

so then, where do you get your standards for the laws you would like to see in place? You may say that you'd like to ban sex between a brother and a sister, but what if they are comfortable with that? what if they want to get married? Who are you to say it is not acceptable? Who am I to say it is not acceptable? This is why people need moral guidelines. There is a right and a wrong for everything. Who is to decide? You? Me? How about the Creator of you and me?

'War' is one of the things that the government needs to pay for, and every American needs to support it because it is in defense of your very being. Just as the military personal give thier all for freedom and protection for America, we need to give our all financially to them and their cause. If the war was necessary or not is up to debate. Your quote: I can't afford the $8300 this tax cut has cost me. Because 52% of these cuts went to the top 5% of taxpayers. Not me. And these tax cuts didn't create jobs, either as evident with our economic crash during the last year of the bush administration. I agree with you here. The spending of the politicians in Washington is out of control. your quote: At least the cash for clunkers and the tax exemption for first time home buyers helps the auto and housing industry - both severely hurt by the recession and helps to save or create jobs. I disagree with this. WHY should we help the auto and housing industry? Let them fail. Other private businesses fail without the help of the government, why shouldn't they? Also, neither helped save or create jobs. Unemployment has risen past 10% now.

I am not saying to get rid of the government, I'm saying that it's TOO big now. It needs to slash something and pare down and step back some. Government is a good thing, when it's not wasteful. Yes, we need roads and we need some regulations. Why must you see it is all or nothing? I thought I was being clear about what I feel about government. Come on now, you must admit that the spending and control has gotten out of hand over the years. Giving 8000. to everyone who buys a home and 4000. to everyone who buys a new car so long as they junk their old one? WOW! I can't afford to buy these big ticket items for people. (and yes, when they take MY tax dollars to give to someone else to purchase a home, then I feel as though I contributed to the cost of their home) When I bought my home, my husband had to work a full time job during the day, and then he did an overnight security guard job that kept him gone from me and his son for 4 months straight so we could save every penny for the down payment we needed of $6,000. (this was 28 years ago) We really wanted our own home and sacrificed some to get one. Today, the government just GIVES a person that $8,000.

Just because I recognize that Homosexuality is sinful and that God is displeased with the concept, doesnt mean that I have a problem with it. I understand that all sin can be forgiven, and that all people do wrong every day. I, too, live with a sin that I can not control, and it is displeasing in God's eyes every day. The sin of gluttony.

Government must have money to function, and the more functions it performs, the more money it must have. We just don't have enough for all the programs they desire. It is getting too big and needs to be cut down a few notches. Start slashing programs that are wasteful and start laying off all the government jobs that are wasteful.

The constitution guarantees you the PURSUIT of life, liberty and happiness, not the guarantee of it. Nothing in life is guaranteed, and the government should not be providing it for you if you can get it yourself. That's right. If you can get it, they should not be providing it for you. There are far too many people who CAN get what they need, but to choose to allow the government to provide it for them. I have a sister who gets free oil every year, yet has a better car than my other sister, and owns a home. I know people who get food stamps, yet smoke a $7.00 pack of cigarettes a day. Hey! what about buying your needs before your desires???!!! This is what kills me. I work hard and have to pay for everyone else who doesn't their basic needs. I even paid 8000. towards everyone who bought a new house this year and 4000 toward everyone who bought a new car with my tax dollars. I bought a brand new car 2 years ago and paid cash for it because I saved my hard earned money and when I had enough, I bought it. Noone gave me anything towards it, because I didn't deserve it nor did anyone else, Yet Obama's administration felt that this was a good thing to do to help the economy that his system of give aways has created!

This does not bother me. If you reject the writings of God, then fine. That's your choice. Also, I can correct any contradiction you feel is in the bible, because there are none.

They don't need to become christians. This is the wonderful thing about America. You may practice any faith you choose. Just don't think that there will be any special attention to your religion, because this is a Christian Nation. Just as there is no special attention to any other language but english. I'm not intolerant of anyone. Be, Do, live, act, anyway you choose to. Worship whom you like. I wont stand in your way. But don't try to remove our Christian God from this nation. Don't try to take "In God we trust" off our money, or his name out of our pledge or the manger off my town green at Christmas time, or the words "endowed by the Creator" out of the constitution, or prayer out of school, or the bible from the school children, or the 10 commandments out of the courtroom, or Christmas parties from our school children, and so on! I think that non christians should be thankful that when their ancestors came into this country that they were not forced ,as other countries do, to worship and serve a national religion. The founding fathers didn't want this. That's why they put in the seperation of church and state. To keep the government out of the churches! (not the other way around as you may believe) They saw how government corruption and control could dominate and control the church and they wanted this Christian Nation to be free from that control. They did not want any one Christian denomination (mainly catholiscm) to set up a national church that all should belong to. They wanted to serve Jesus. They never expected that the people here would turn against God and force him from the government or from the public. They would be sick if they could see what has happened to their great Nation.

From the time a person turns 16 and is able to hold down a job, they should begin to put away a small sum of their income for their retirement every week. Even if it's just $5 or 10 dollars. Over time, this money can be invested, and will grow. There are also IRA's that can be used. Financial planning for ones future needs to be every persons responsibility. If they did not do that through their working years of life because they wanted to buy a flat screen TV instead or because cigarettes were part of their weekly expences, how is this anyones fault but their own? The government should not have to be the one to support anyone in their retirement. God has also stated that your own children should take care of you in your old age. If they choose not to do this for their parents, how is this anyone elses fault but their own? This paragraph only covers the social program of social security. Believe me, if the government wasn't there handing out the dough that they don't even have, the people would have to help each other. Take away the financial support of your lingering at home young adult and see how quickly he begins to figure out a way to meet his needs.

I've already explained Exodus and Luke. The Egyptians gave them the goods. As for the passage in Luke 19, To someone who understands that God owns everything, this passage does not justify stealing. And, even if it does to you, I remind you of what God has said of himself in Psalms 50:10 and 11: "for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine." In other words, if God takes it from you, he's not stealing. He owns it. Everything that you and I have belongs to him, for he is the creator, and he can take it from us at any moment in time if he chooses. He has never advocated stealing. As a matter of fact "Thou shalt not steal." is one of the 10 commandments of God.

The cost of financing the states and their local governmental divisions has risen dramatically in recent decades. In the early 1960's, all state and local governments combined were spending approx. $70 billion a year; by 1993 they were spending about 1.2 trillion a year. Although a portion of this enormous increase must be attributed to inflation, a large part of it is a result of many citizens insisting that state and local government provide them with more and more services! Government must have money to function, and the more functions it performs, the more money it must have. This is why people are upset with the HC public option. It's cost will blow us out of the water. We can not sustain any more spending!

The progressive income tax (those with greater incomes pay at a higher rate) was initiated by those who wished to use government to help bring about economic equality, one of the basic goals of socialism. Whereas a regressive tax burdens the poor, a progressive tax targets the rich. Such taxation punishes initiative and reduces the incentive to work hard and invest. The scriptures do teach that those who are materially blessed have a greater responsibility to society---"For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required." (Luke 12:48) BUT it is not for the government to redistribute the wealth of its citizens. The needs of the poor are best met by voluntary charity rather than by progressive taxation. When the government does it, they are stealing from the rich to give to the poor. A 'robinhood' kind of stealing is no more acceptable than any other form of thievery.

It doesn't "piss" me off, what you say. It just shows me your true charachter. It shows me how you have put an idea in your head about me and others who think as I do, and you 'want' to believe I am the kind of christian who would be like a 911 killer. So that's what you think. So what. I know what I am and who I am and that's all that matters to me. What you think about me and my beliefs matters very little. It just strikes me funny that through our conversations here you have me pegged as a bitter, rigid, twisted mom and that you 'fear' for my children, (this is where I roll my eyes)someone whose beyond help. You need to think about yourself here for a moment. You'll notice that through all of my posts, not once have I said anything offensive about you personally, nor would I. I'm just not that kind of person. I recognize that there are people in the world, like you, who think the opposite of me, and I accept that. Unlike you, those who don't think as you do are sick and twisted. That's too bad you feel that way, because people who feel the need to call others names or defame their charachter have been proven to have low self esteems. BTW, I'm not at all trying to 'convert' you to anything, as you said. The bible just happens to be where I get my truth from, and I use it to back up all that I say.
