Where is all the CT Lapbanders??

Sara jane, I lost 16 lbs. my first week post op! I couldn't believe that. I will admit that I cheated pre op and didn't do the diet. I fasted (only water) 2 days prior to surgery to empty my stomach. Since then, I have lost 4 more pounds in 4 weeks. I am eating approx. 1100 calories a day, still pureed or soft. I look forward to meeting you in Nov.
  2. The only reason (that I can think of) that any woman would argue so fiercely for their "right" to kill an innocent little life that grows inside them is 1. They themselves at one time have made that choice to have an abortion and now don't want to think about what they've done and live with the guilt of it. (or) 2. They know someone else who has had an abortion and wants to justify what they have done. (or) 3. they are male and o.k.ed their girlfriend or wife's abortion so they wouldn't have to "deal" with an unwanted pregnancy. (or lastly) 4. they just don't comprehend that what is being formed inside a pregnant woman is truely a seperate human life from the womans. Why on this green earth would anyone fight for their 'right' to murder?! I don't understand that. I can understand those of us who fight to save these babies, but defending abortion? That's beyond me! If you've had an abortion, you can't go back and undo what you have done. It's done. Ask for God's forgiveness and you shall have it.( If you are sincerely sorry and regret what you did) But please, don't continue to try to justify what you did and 'defend' your right to have done it, or tell others that they can do it too because it's their right. It's NEVER any ones 'right' to kill anyone. I know this sounds harsh, but I'm not one to mince words. Facts are facts. There is never any reason good enough to make having an abortion o.k.

    Hey ladies

I am new on lap band talk and was surprised to see a woman of color thread. What color?! Imagine if there was a thread for "White woman only" You women of color would be jumping all over it. It's just not right. Shame on all of you. I come from a family of many different nationalities (Philippino ,african american, and even my 2 foster daughters are african american and white) What's wrong with one thread for all?
  4. it's not about how a person 'feels'. We're talking about KILLING someone. Don't you get that?!
  5. My husband and I have had 7 pregnancys and 7 healthy babies (thank God). I would not like having to carry and deliver a child from rape, but I would do it because every life is precious and is not mine to decide if it should live or die.
  6. I would never force my beliefs on anyone either. (religious beliefs, parenting beliefs, political beliefs, civil unions, school choices, etc.) Believe away! But when your beliefs effect the lives of others(the killing of innocent unborn children) you better believe that I will forcefully oppose it. Life begins at conception ( this has been scientifically proven, just witness one ultrasound and there is no denying it) Isn't it funny how enraged people get when they hear on the news that a pregnant woman has just been murdered. They want justice! "Charge them with a double murder!'' they cry out. (and more recently, more men have been charged with double murders for killing their pregnant wives or girlfriends) How is it that an unborn child is considered a human being in one situation, but if a woman chooses to kill her unborn baby it's no longer human, but a blob of tissue that she can do as she chooses with? Let's face it! There isn't a woman out there who doesn't know deep in her heart that what is growing inside her is a real human baby. She is so self focused with the "inconvenience" this unwanted pregnancy has caused her that if the courts say it's legal to get rid of this problem, then with no thought of the life growing inside her, she does just that. Just because it's a law, doesn't make it right or moral. There are alot of laws on the books that shouldn't be there.

    Spanking

I never said it was the ONLY way to discipline, but it is an effective way. And Yes, God does want us to spank our children if they need it. He also wants us to love them and teach them and admonish them. Maybe you haven't read God's words written in the bible, but he teaches us to discipline in this way. (and other ways as well)Parents have been spanking their children as a form of discipline since Adam and Eve's time. (and it worked) It has only been the last 30-40 years that Parents have been kept from spanking their kids for fear of the "what might people think" attitude. And look where that has gotten us. I am NOT an advocate for abusing children, lets get that straight. But I believe that if a child is swearing at me or spitting on someone, or being disrespectful, that child needs to be spanked.
  8. In life, there are alot of injustices when people do the wrong thing and others have to fix it or bare the consequences. Just look at our economy right now. Those on wall street sin, and the rest of the world pays the consequence. It doesn't make it right or pleasant, but it's true. To answer your post, YES, the woman needs to carry the innocent child to term. If she can't bare to raise her baby, then adoption is her only option.Every time someone in the world does wrong, there is a horrible consequence for everyone involved, not just the wrong doer. Also, I did not and will not tell you that rape is God's plan for each and every woman everywhere, nor do I believe it is God's plan for impregnating anyone. God's plan is for married people to raise children together. Rape is wrong and God does not approve of such horrible sin. Yet, sex, (whether forced or not) can and does result in pregnancy. God says in Exodus 21:22 "If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the court allows. BUT if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life." Sounds as if God hates killing the unborn to me. This is not my law, it's Gods, the creator of all. If you have a problem with his laws, then you have a problem with Him, not me. If you believe there is a God, then you can't pick and choose what you will obey. A woman can make the choice to accept that a horrible thing was done to her, and let the innocent child live. Abortion is murder, plain and simple. Just because we hate a situation put upon us, doesn't mean we can kill anyone who stands in our way of making the situation disappear. It is noones right (as you stated) to make a decision to abort a baby, Because if you kill the baby, you are no worse than the rapist. I can understand that if someone made the choice to have an abortion (rape or no rape) in their past, they may become haunted by the magnitude of what they have done to the baby and it can be very hard for them. All I can say to that is Thankfully, we have a God who forgives us if we ask Him to.

Where is all the CT Lapbanders??

Hi, It's nice to meet people from St. Raphaels. I had an overall good experience at that hospital, especially since i"m used to Waterbury Hosp. (I don't care for it there)I didn't hear of your doctor. Is he with Dr. Yoods office? You lost alot of weight already and it's only been about a week since your surgery. How are you doing? nice to meet you, and maybe I will see you at the support group.

Where is all the CT Lapbanders??

hi heather, I did not have to do 6 mo. with chris or diane. My ins. paid for my surgery without any problem. I called and asked if they would cover it, they said yes, and I saw the nutritionist 2x and the psycologist 2x. Then my surgery date was set. It took a total of 3 months from the date of the first info seminar to my surgery date. Is this your first fill? What is it like? If I am losing a pound or so each week, then i'm content with that. I wont ever get a fill if I'm losing steadily. It's good to talk with someone from dr. Yoods office. Maybe I will meet you at the support group in Nov. I will be attending that one, since I missed the first one after my surgery. Have a great day!!

Where is all the CT Lapbanders??

Hi Heather, I wanted to go on the first thur. in Oct., but couldnt make it. I am planning to go in Nov. Maybe we can meet there, if you go. You are 2 months post op now, have you lost much weight? I see dr. Yood on the 20th again. He's a good doctor.

Where is all the CT Lapbanders??

Hi! I put a little gravy in it, because if not, it can be very dry. Also, you can add some low fat mayo and make chicken salad.
  13. YES! It's a terrible thing to be raped. What an injustice to the poor victim. 2 WRONGS don't make a right. The child is the victim of murder if the mother aborts him or her. The mother should carry the child and deliver him and let someone who longs for a child and can't have one adopt him.

    Spanking

Spanking is not child abuse.Beating a child till he's black and blue is child abuse. I f you spank a child when he is young as a form of discipline, by the time he is a little older (around 6 or 7) you won't need to spank any more. The problem with some kids today is that they didn't get a spanking when they got unruly with their parents, and now there isn't any respect for adults anywhere. I'm 47 and raised 10 children, and spanked my children when they were disrespectful or when they lied or misbehaved. I never abused them. Discipline should be done in love. The Lord himself approves of this form of discipline (not abuse). It clearly states in the bible that parents need to discipline their kids in this way. If you have a problem with spanking as a form of discipline, then you have a problem with God's plan for parents. When Parents are afraid to spank for fear of being accused of child abuse, children grow up unruly. Just look at alot of the teens today, no respect, back talkers, disobedient, trouble in school and with the law.
  15. No, it shouldn't be allowed cause then it wouldn't be talk about lapband

Where is all the CT Lapbanders??

hi! Im from naugatuck, banded on 9/9/08 and lost 20 lbs so far. I am no longer taking diabetes med. I can jump out of bed so much easier. When you lose that much in a short time, you can really notice the effects. my dr was dr yood from st raphaels hosp. I had an easy surgery with no complications, and very little discomfort. Only xstrength tylenol for 2 days afterward. At 4.5 weeks postop, I can eat around 1000-1100 cals per day. I am eating soft or pureed foods. for BFast I have 1 egg and a slice of cheese with pureed peppers and onions(1 Tbsp) omelet and 1/2 slice toast. For lunch, I eat 1/4 can of tuna with 6 ritz crackers and some pureed broccoli and carrots with a little cheese in it, Dinner is pureed chicken breast, baked potato(1/2) and pureed spinach. I eat pureed fruit in between.( like applesauce or peaches)

    Hi Connecticut!

Hi! this happened to me also. you will begin to lose again. I was banded on 9/9/08. I lost 20 pounds altogether so far. The first week, I lost 16 of them, then I lost nothing, then 1.5 the next week and so on. your body thinks it is in starvation mode, and is holding on to all it has, but it will give eventually.

    3 weeks post-op

Carly, I had my lap band on 9/9/08 so we're not far from each other. I am going on my third week and am eating pureed foods. I, too, lost 17 pounds by my 2nd week post op, and have lost 2 more this 3rd week.Isn't the band great?!! I have had no complications or pain either. The first 2 days was tiring, but after that, I healed up pretty quickly. I thank God for that. You're doing great! Keep up the good work. Weight loss surgery is not the easy way out. God bless. Patty
  19. I just started the pureed stage and my doctor said anything I can put in a blender.Sometimes you may have to add a little liquid in order to puree it.

    1 week post op

Hi, It is true that after the swelling goes down, that you will experince hunger, but not alot. I am 11 days post op, and if i have a hunger pain, I drink my protein shake(3-4 oz.) and it satisfies me. It is only for the first 2 weeks that I need to be on liquids only. and then I can have pureed food. (anything I can put in a blender and puree, I can eat) so you see, if you can get through the first 2 weeks of liquids only, you'll do fine. (and you WILL get through it, because you must only drink fluids) Don't worry, its not difficult.
  21. Hello friends, I want to introduce myself. I am Patty, 47 years old and a mother of 10. My husband and I had 6 boys and 1 girl, and we also raised 2 sisters and one other boy in foster care. I have been over weight since I was a teenager, after having children, I settled my weight at 225 lbs., and was comfortable with that, but since then have developed diabetes (4 years ago). I was on Actos medication which ballooned me up to 281 lbs.(5'7"), so the last 3 years, I have put on 56 lbs. My decision to have the lap band surgery did not come easy and without many prayers. But I finally had it done on 9/9. My surgeon was Dr. Yood at St. Raphael hospital in New Haven, CT. I had a decent experience with surgery. I had minimal pain. The first day of surgery, I slept alot and only needed xstrength tylenol for discomfort. Every day after that got better. The 3rd day I felt some pain in my left shoulder and it was difficult to get out of bed with the pull on my incisions, but I did alright. This is my 10th day since the surgery and I have lost 16.5 pounds. WOW! I can feel the difference in my energy level already. I used to have a hard time getting out of bed, and now I can sit right up no problem. When you take off so much weight in a short time you can notice the benifits better. I have been drinking liquids (water, crystal lite, jello, ice pops, coffee) but also drinking cream soups and protein drinks and drinkable yogurt. I go for my first checkup on Friday. I will see when I can start on puree foods at that time. Does anyone know how to find a lap band support group in your own town or area? Traveling to new haven once a month is too far for me. Thanks, and I'm so glad to be part of this forum.I would love to be friends with all of you.

Momma, Congratulations on your 10 pound lost. Does Dr. Valin work with Dr. Yood ? Will you be going to the first support group on Oct.2 at 6 pm? Maybe we can meet there. How has your first week been?
  23. I am 11 days post op today and just got home from my first doctors appt. I asked him that question and he said I can put in as much as I want because it goes right through the band easily. On tuesday, (day 14 postop), I can eat anything that I want to put in a blender and puree.

Jaculin, You are right about having good communication with your kids and especially now while they are teenagers. God bless you and your decision after 5 years of thought to have the lap band. I'll be praying for your quick recovery.

    1 week post op

Hello April, First, let me say " HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! " When will you be banded, or do you know yet? As far as the kids go, they weren't all put on me at once, Ha Ha , but as another child came along, I adjusted, and prayed for God's guidance. Some advice: Pick your battles (especially with teenagers), don't make mountains out of molehills, live each day with your kids as if you won't have another one, discipline is love, say "I love you" every day to each of them, and lastly (even though I could go on forever) show respect and you will receive it. And oh yeah, pray alot. May God bless your family and your decision to have this surgery. Patty
