Should prostitution be legal?
pattygreen replied to Carrie_C's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Beth, When I commented on Jesus saying we should not be ashamed of Him or he will be ashamed of us, you immediately assumed I was talking about you. I was not. I was talking about Me. I am not ashamed to speak of Him. So , you see how people can make a judgement without fully understanding what the other person meant? Show me where I berated someone and smashed them in the mouth with God's words! And just for the record, I'm not trying to reach anyone here. The question was asked 'should prostitution be legalized?' I answered it and gave my reasons for why I feel it shouldn't. It's just so amazing how people get so angry when you tell them I believe this or that because I believe in a creator and He has the last word on the subject in my opinion. They feel like you're speaking right to them and offending them personally. -

Beth, why don't you read her past posts to find out? She said that I don't use my brain before I open my mouth. That is pretty rude to me. And if you know God, then you must know that he tells us not to be ashamed of him and his gospel or he will be ashamed of you on that day. I did not say anything untactfully. I stated why I don't feel that anything God would call SIN, should be legalized. -

so what your saying is 'if the rest of the people feel it's ok to do this or that, then it's morally ok.' You have no creator. In other words, whatever you decide is immoral , will be in your eyes. Also, refering to your previous post: You have it backwards. the bible is only contradictory to unbelievers, those who haven't read it from the beginning to the end. (most unbelievers will not take the time to read it in its full content for it is a long book) And it is the unbeliever who cherrypicks it. (for they want to live according to their own ways and not God's ways and they therefore pick and choose the scriptures they want to abide by and those that they don't) You did that in your past post when you spoke about slavery in the bible. God spoke of slavery in the bible because it was what man chose to do and was doing, but he never approved of it. Also, in the beginning of creation, God permitted multiple wives for procreation sake. ( So the earth could become populated. ) But He ended that later. Man decide to continue with what he wanted to do.(have more than 1 wife) You are right when you say in other countries it is acceptable to marry at the onset of puberty. Mary, the birthmother of Jesus was 14 years old when she gave birth to him, so obviously it was and is acceptable to God. I am therefore ok with it also. But because I live here where it is frowned upon, I will abide by this law because It hurts noone to wait until you are 18 to get married. Where the prostition issue comes in, I see that in not abiding by God's ruling in this circumstance, there are ill consequences. As far as people choosing to worship according to their geographical location. you are right to an extent. But it's not geography, it's parents teachings. But not in all cases. I was born into a catholic family and was taught their doctrine. When I got older I chose to read the bible on my own. After reading it, I determined that I could no longer be catholic for they taught me many, many things that were not biblical. (hence why they kept the reading of the scriptures away from their congregants for so many centuries) I have 4 friends who were raised in Islamic families, yet found the truth in the Bible. You obviously have not done a careful examination of the bible, as you called it. for if you had, your life would have changed. There are not too many people who have read God's words (in full, not bits and pieces) who were able to walk away from its teaching unchanged and believing it. -

all I can say to you, Donna, is 'you are a rude person.' I hope you feel good about yourself and your insensitive comments. In order to live with morals, you need to have a moral code to follow. So, 'where does your code come from?' would be a better way to phrase the question. -

Then give me an example of what you would call a moral issue. Because if you don't believe that the bible is the word of God, then there shouldn't be any moral issues for who's to say what's right and wrong. -

Macmadame, Are you kidding me? You can't see how prostitution (business transaction as you call it) is a moral issue? You don't see the 'sex outside of marriage' in that? Of course it's a moral issue! -

lilmisdiva, It is not wrong to protect yourself from harm from others, even if you have to shoot the person to defend yourself. This is not what God meant when he said 'turn the other cheek.' -

Gloucester, You asked me 'how do you know what God would do?' I answer you with ' Everyone can know what God would do in any situation because He gave us HIS own words in the bible. It's up to every man he created to read it for themself. If you never read it, then you'll never know what God would say or do in a situation such as legalizing prostitution. Also, I don't understand why you needed to make fun of my opinions. I am not trying to judge anyone. God will do the judging, you are right about that. And you're also right about gluttony being a sin. (of which I am the biggest sinner in that area) for green and jodi. I don't favor judgement and punishment in my approach to man's behaviors. I was merely stating the facts concerning why prostitution should not be legalized. There are consequences to every action in this life. wether good or bad actions. prostitution is a sin and therefore it is wrong and should not be legalized. period. -

Macmadame, The men are sinning as well, but this is a thread about prostitutes so I only spoke of them and what they are doing. It is definitely wrong for them as well. -

pattygreen replied to Carrie_C's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
that is true, no one should mistreat anyone, but when you are involved in sin you suffer the consequences for your actions. If a person came into my home to rob me or hurt me, I might shoot him. He knew what the consequences were before he entered my home. These prostitutes accept the risks involved with their sin otherwise they would find a better job.( not to say they are acceptable risks, but like I said, you reap what you sow.) We used to try to keep most sins illegal in this country because the consequences effected everyone around, but as time has gone on, people are choosing to do what they want instead of obeying God and this country is falling farther and farther away from His way. What once was unnaceptable ( sins like abortion, homosexuality, excessive alcohol assumption, sex before marriage, etc.) are now acceptable. And not just acceptable, but considered right. (If you're reading this and you want to jump all over me about some of those, please remember that I didn't decide for myself that those things are sin, this is what God himself calls them in the bible.) You can see it all around us, the way people want to make this a country of 'anything goes'. Some want to legalize marajuana, some want to change the definition of marriage. The worst sin of all, in my opinion, was legalizing the act of killing the unborn. (one of the ten commandments, 'thou shalt not murder') Yet millions do it every year and it is accepted. Just the fact that there is a thread with this question of 'should prostitution be legalized?' shows you where the hearts of men are heading; towards all things sinful. For if their hearts were toward God, they wouldn't need that answered. They would already know. -

are you suggesting that it should be legalized to protect those who wish to indulge? I don't agree. I believe that you reap what you sow. If you choose to participate in sinful acts, then the consequences are there for you to deal with. Even if that means you are mistreated by your John. If you don't want to be mistreated, then do the right thing and get a respectable job. If sin did not have any consequence, people would continue to live in it. -

pattygreen replied to Carrie_C's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Meatballsmom, You are absolutely correct in what you say, but what about the fact that it's just plainly a SIN. I know that some people here don't like to hear that word, but when it comes to making a decision on whether something should be legalized or accepted by society, the answer is always " What does God have to say about it?" Prostitution is a sin and should not be legalized. God forknew that as time went on people will start to say that what is wrong is right and what is right is wrong. I say we are there now. I can't tell you how many times I run across people who believe it is fine to live any way they choose and say it's their choice and say "It doesn't effect you, so why do you care what I do?" But sin effects everyone around. The fact is, people want to do what they want to do and don't care about if it's a sin or not. (As a matter of fact, they don't even want to hear the word sin. It angers them.)We have had many debates here about right and wrong choices in life. (ex: homosexuality, abortion, etc.) But I wouldn't even bother debating it, because some are set on living the way they choose whether it's sinful or not and could give a hoot whether anyone aproves of their lifestyle or not. Prostitution is morally wrong, God says so, and seeing that he is the master creator of all that is in this universe, I will agree with Him. -
Filled on Monday, Un-Filled Saturday night

He said that he thought my port was tilted and that the incision had scarring that hardened probably at the opening of the port. He doesn't know for sure himself I believe. -
Filled on Monday, Un-Filled Saturday night
pattygreen replied to dixichik's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The first day of the fill, I was like that too, but its been over a week now and I am eating reg. food and keeping it down. I definitely have restriction and cant eat as much as before the fill, but thats what its all about, right? You will be able to eat more after day 3 or 4 because the swelling will go down. When you have a fill, or any time your stomach is touched, you will swell a little. So, to update, I am doing better now. I lost 4 pounds the first week ,and that was over Christmas! -
Just wondering, why do you have so much in there? Did you start off with 1 or 2 cc and keep it that way for a while, and then add more slowly, or was it alot put in at one time? I just had my first fill. He put in 4cc on the first time because he had a difficult time finding my port opening and wanted to be sure he put enough in there in case next visit he can't find it again. I went 2 visits before he could locate the opening, Even with the ultrasound he couldn't find it. Then a last attempt try, and he got it. He says my port was tilted.

Had my first fill - stomach hungry, throat stuck
pattygreen replied to socalfosh's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, you made that posting a month ago, and I'm wondering how you're eating now. I just had my first fill of 4cc yesterday, and I can only get water down. 1 sip at a time, then I wait 15-20 minutes and take another sip. Did the fill help you to lose much weight in 1 month? -
Filled on Monday, Un-Filled Saturday night
pattygreen replied to dixichik's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I was banded on 9/9/08. I've lost 33 lbs. so far. 1 month ago I went in for my first fill and the dr. couldn't find the opening to my port. After trying about 8 times, he gave up and told me to come back in a month. I went back today. He tried twice and still couldn't find the opening. He did an ultrasound and said it wasn't helping him much. He tried once more and finally got it. When he was done, he said he put more than he normally would on a persons first fill, because after finally finding the port, he wanted to make sure there was enough in there. He put in 4 cc. I drank 1/2 cup of water, then left. while still in the parking lot, I started sliming up the water a little at a time. Gross. Since then, I have drank about 1/2 cup of water taking one sip every 1/2 hour or so. It has been8 hours since my fill. I am supposed to stay on liquids only for 1 day, pureeds for day 2 and mushy food for day 3, then reg. food for day 4. I hope I will be able to eat when the time comes, cause I can only have 1 sip of water at a time, or I can't keep it down. Will it get better? -
I was supposed to diet for one week prior to my surgery, but I went on vacation instead and ate anything I wanted to. Then the day before my surgery, I fasted and ate nothing. It made little difference in the surgery outcome. I think they tell everyone to diet before surgery to lessen the fatty tissue around the stomach, and to prepare you for less eating ahead of time, but it doesn't matter.

First fill and nothing - suggestions please!
pattygreen replied to San Diego Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had my first fill after being 2 1/2 months post op. The doc had another doc who was training do it. He missed the opening. Then Dr Yood tried to put the needle into the opening and he missed. He tried about 6 or 8 times and couldn't find the opening to the port. You have to lay flat on the bed and hold your feet up in order to tighten your stomach muscles so the port is more obvious to feel for. My abs were sore. He said, "You're tired, come back in 2 weeks and we'll try again." "Well, if you can't find the port today, what makes 2 weeks from now ok?" He said, "maybe you will have lost some more weight by then." How stupid! Now, I don't know what's going to happen. Has this ever happened to anyone? I went home discouraged, but not about the fill, more about all the trips I take to the doctors for what seems like nothing. I travel 40 minutes to and from. -
How long before food gets stuck?
pattygreen replied to lynjami's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lucy, you're welcome. I remember the first week after surgery. It was liquids only. That was tough. Then when I moved to puree, I thought "wow, is this all I'll be able to eat?" But as another week rolled on, I was able to eat a little more. As you heal, in the first 4-6 weeks, you will begin to be able to eat a little more and more. Just remember not to rush into solid foods too quickly. follow the food plan. Your body is healing itself right now. I know how hard it is for you right now at this stage, but you will get through it very well. It is at this time that you will probably lose the most weight, and that's great! Take care! I hope this helps you a little. Patty -
How long before food gets stuck?
pattygreen replied to lynjami's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello. I was banded on 9/9/08. If you eat slowly, like 1 bite every minute or two, you shouldn't have a problem. Remember before the band if you sometimes ate real fast, it would feel like it was stuck in your throat (chest area) and you could drink something and it would go down hard? Well, now it might feel that way if you put too big of a mouthful and eat real fast, but you can't drink water to get it down. (if you do, you'll just make it worse) When that happens, just wait patiently for the food to go through. It might be uncomfortable for a few minutes, but it will go down. I used to think that when that happened, it was a signal to me that I was full. It wasn't. I was just eating too fast. If you stick to no more than a half cup of food at a time,(at this stage) you'll know how much is ok. After I started eating solid foods, I found that I could eat anything. Only steak, pork and dry chicken were a problem. I stay away from them now. I eat approx. 1 1/2 cup of food at each meal now. Approx. 1200 or 1300 calories each day. I am losing about 1 lb or 2 lbs a week. I have not had a fill yet because I feel that as long as I am losing steadily each week, then I don't need one. Just remember, you can probably eat almost anything after you are off the pureed food, because you haven't changed the stomach by cutting it like in gastric bypass, you just put a band around the stomach to make it smaller. I am able to eat all of the same things I did before the surgery, only less of them. Don't worry, as time goes on, you will learn by trial and error these things. God bless, Patty -
Gadgetlady, The Watcher, and all in between...
pattygreen replied to stevegoad's topic in Rants & Raves
Yeah. Go figure. That something that's working for them is having God be the center of their lives and living according to the way He has planned. Wow! Who would have thought? -
Pigs are symbolic of those who want to wallow in their own mud.
-
"Do not cast your pearls among pigs. If you do they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.'(matthew 7:6) The word of God is a pearl to be treasured. His words are true. They can solve every debate concerning right and wrong. Whenever someone states God's rules concerning life's choices, they find people that don't want to hear what He has to say about it because they want to do what they want to do. Rather than admit that it would be better to heed God's advice on these issues, they 'tear to pieces' the one who brings his word. I have chosen not to cast my pearls among swine any longer. I can't stand to see you trample all over them.
-
I don't believe that I beat anyone over the head with the bible. I state what God has to say on the issues. The reason you all don't like that is because you know He is right. He's God. He created you and everyone in this world so when he says something is wrong, how could you argue with that? I certainly know how it is to desire something and be told,"No", but sometimes a no answer is for your own good. It is ok with me if you don't like the things I have to say that I feel God would like you to know. It's about time that people stopped pussyfooting around these issues and called sin for what it really is. I am not afraid to do that and for this you hate me and make fun of my faith and accuse me of being a bible pusher.
