I was banded 9/11/08 and overall have done well. My only complaint and concern is that after my first fill, I began having episodes of mucous regurgitation - I call it slime. I have allergies and a lot of post-nasal drainage. I have asked my aftercare specialists and they recommended mucolytics (Robitussin or Mucinex) and hot fluids before meals but I still have the issue. It occurs with the first few bites of a meal and a cup or more or mucous comes up rather forcefully. Not as violent as throwing up - but uncontrollable. I have gone for a second fill and continue to lose 1-2 # per week but am concerned about going for another fill. They have done a fluoro and my band is in good position (no damage from my sliming). Anybody else with the same issue? Any recommendations? H302/S298/C255/G200

I'm 5 weeks out from surgery and 1 week out from first fill. Definitely feel more restriction and have begun losing weight again. Problem though, after one or two bites I throw up cups of saliva/mucous. I call it the SLIME. Doesn't happen every meal or every day - but pretty often. Asked my aftercare specialist and she though it might be related to sinus drainage/allergies. Anybody else have this reaction? Any suggestions?? Thanks!

I hear the term "PB" alot--what is that?

I am four weeks out from surgery and go for my first fill on Friday (2 days). There are times I can eat a "normal" size meal - so I don't think I'm too tight and probably need a fill. Other times, I take one or two bites and PB/vomit cups of slime. Doesn't seem to matter what I'm eating - once something hits all that mucus - up it comes. Have lost 25# including during the pre-op diet but no weight loss in two weeks. Sound normal/ok?? -
My surgery was 9/11. At first I felt funny about the date but now I think it's cool. For better or for worse, 9/11 changed America forever. Now for me, 9/11 is a new start and a day I'll never forget. Any other 9/11 bandeds out there?

Anyone Else Not Able To Get All Liquid In?
gmk3 replied to speck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also banded 9/11. Supposed to do three Protein shakes a day but lucky to do one. Ok sipping Water, coffee, broth, or juice but find the shakes difficult to swallow. Spoke to my aftercare specialist and, though no Fluid was placed in my band intra-op, she thought I might be a little "tight" due to post-op swelling. I'm blending my Protein powder with some ice and lo-fat milk - maybe it's just too much air whipped in and filling me up too quickly. Lost 8# during the pre-op diet and more than 10# since surgery. Looking forward to the mushies - broth is just not very exciting. -
Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
gmk3 replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my band 0n 9/11 in Richardson Texas. Had a 9:00 surgery time and was there by 7:15. Paperwork and then into pre-op by 8. IV in and vitals taken. Very sweet anesthesiologist gave me a whopping dose of Versed as we started rolling toward the OR. Have NO recall of going into OR or coming out. Surgery over by 9:30. Had me up and walking soon thereafter. Quick gulp of contrast and fluoro of post-surgery band placement. Dr B. came by with reassurance all was well and I was on my way home by noon. Very smooth operation and professional team. -
Also banded on 9/11. No hunger at all but miss the routines of food and preparation. Some gurgling after fluids but not bad. Talked with an aftercare specialist and she thought my band might be a little tight due to post-op swelling but not a problem. Best to you on your journey!

Scared - But coming to say Hello
gmk3 replied to ATX-Girl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Also from TX - just had my Lap-band done on 9/11 (obviously not superstitious) and doing great. Preparation and information will help more than anything to get ready. Make sure you have your mind completely at peace about the procedure. Make sure you're ready to change everything about how and when you eat. Ask lots of questions and be ready to go on 10/1. We're excited for you and know you'll do great.
