I'm a sophmore in highschool and I got banded a couple months ago, but I haven't lost ANYTHING! I'm going to prom in two weeks and I want to lose about five pounds, but every time I attempt to diet, I get discouraged and give up. This whole week has been unsuccessful- in fact I have gained two pounds. Any ideas out there on how I can get motivated so that I feel better about myself on such an important night? Also, I'm going shopping for my dress tomorrow (I know its late) and I know that trying on all of the gorgeous dresses that look awful on me is going to make me so depressed. How can I keep my spirits up so that I enjoy this special night? PLEASE REPLY!! Thanks!- Michelle :help:

Thank you all so much! I definately took your advice to heart. I had a really great time shopping once I kept in mind that this is a LIFE change. Going into surgery I wore a size 16 in juniors and now I wear a size 14/15! So although the scale doesn't show it, I have made some progress. I will definately keep you all posted about how the prom goes and my about weight loss! Thanks again!

I love this thread. Since I was a little girl (which I still kinda am- only 15), I hav been taught to feel like I could only reach my true potential if I was thin. THe problem was, I never was. Obesity runs in my family. My mom had this surgery three years ago when she was 110lbs. overweight; my great-grandmother died from complications from obesity. Everyone in my family is fat, and everyone in my family feels like they aren't good enough because of it. When I was 11 I went to Brazil with my grandmother. I remember standing in the dressing room of a bathing suit store crying because my grandmother was telling me that I looked like a whale in every suit I tried on (and that was during a time in my life when I was average weight). I hated her for it, but I also believed her. The lady I was staying with would make me huge bowls of dulce de leche and hide them from my grandmother because she felt bad that my grandma wouldn't let me eat much. It felt so good to rebel in that way. When I came home a month later, I had gained ten lbs and a lot of bad eating habits. Since, I have had multiple eating disorders and lost a lot of weight, but it always comes back, and then some. I am fat becasue I like to rebel and I especially like succeeding and proving everyone wrong despite my weight. Nobody believed I could win a pageant, so I worked my butt off and won, and then won another. I was elected class president, mastered classical piano, got accepted to numerous leadership conferences, traveled to Europe, maintained good grades, got a gorgeous boyfriend, and did many hours of community service when they said that fat people couldn't do anything. I proved them wrong and then got the band to prove myself wrong and loose weight. I'm finally ready to be thin. WOO-HOO!

I was really sore also. My incisions hurt a lot because I am really sensitive to pain meds and I didn't want to have a lot. I think that most of my pain was just emotional. It was scary to have something foreign inside of me, but I knew that there was no turning back. I don't regret it at all though. It was the best thing I ever did for myself.

My name is Michelle and I am 15 (almost 16!) years old. I had my surgery on January 17th at 210 lbs. My first fill was on March 3rd. I was really excited going into surgery because my mom had it a few years ago and lost 70 lbs (woohoo!) so I thought that since I am younger and healthier, I would have the same results or better. WRONG! My mom not only lost all of her weight, she taught my a few little tricks to cheat the band and eat a lot along the way. I now am stuck in a major predicament. :help: I haven't lost ANYTHING! I know that I can eat a whole plate of cheezy nachos if I chew well and drink Water with it, and that I can eat a million fattening Snacks a day if I want to. I am sabotaging myself badly! What should I do? This is my last resort. PLEASE REPLY! I am young and I have a huge life and endless possibilities ahead of me; I don't want my weight to hold me back. Thanks!

I think that the hardest thing in the world is to be a new bandster and to be a turtle when your mom, who had the surgery a couple years ago, is a rabbit. Ouch. I don't think that she will ever understand that I am just a struggling turtle trying to win the race. : P Oh well.

Hey everyone!! I'm new on this site and I love it! I am so excited to know that there are more teens like me out there getting banded! I am 15 years old and I was banded on January 17th. What a blessing! I am so glad that I had the opportunity to do this and I hope that joining this little group will help me through every step. Please write back! Michelle
