February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
RonHall908 replied to NickelChip's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on a three week stall in weight. I'll weigh twice a week. I'll be down a pound or two. The next time I weigh. I'll be up a pound or two. Just hovers. I think im stalling because of my daily workout, the victory on the scale isn't happening to my liking. But overall I do feel better. Next week is my 3 month post-op appointment. Hopefully the blood tests reveal why I've been so exhausted. Just keep plugging away, it's a marathon. At least that's what I keep telling myself. -
Incision area bulge after Gastric Bypass

My incisions were glued. By the second day after surgery I could shower without directly applying soap and water to them. With stitches it maybe more strict. Just follow the surgeons direction. If they weren't clear call to make sure. -

Had gastric bypass Feb. 7th. My food intake is hot and cold at times. The last few weeks I've felt like I needed to eat more often. Not more volume, just spread it out more to fuel myself. I've been exhausted lately. I think spreading out my meals has helped some. You should try the baritastic app. I've used that since October. The dietician at the bariatric center can see the food and drinks that I log. But it's a good app just for yourself as well to keep track. -

The closet thing I've came to bread was the zero carb tortillas. I also found some BBQ pulled pork in a little to go pack like they have with tuna. It's a Pretty good little snack. I put it on the little tortillas. Two of them with a little of the pulled pork filled me up. Here's the link. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Great-Value-Pulled-Pork-in-BBQ-Sauce-2-6-oz-Pouch/982032683?from=/search Down 33 lbs. is pretty good. Keep it up! -

Doing pretty good so far, had a stomach ache the other day. I tried to vomit, but couldn't. I think I ate something my stomach didn't agree with. Which is weird, because it wasn't very much and something I've eaten before. I've taken some of the meals I've had and blended them to see how much volume it is. I thought maybe I'm able to eat more than supposed to. But, when I blended it into a small mixer getting it to be a little thicker than applesauce, it's not as much as I thought it was. About a cup and a half. I braved eating some regular rice. Didn't have any issue with it. Though, I did feel like I stayed full longer than I have had with other food. I'm not going to push it, the riced cauliflower I get does the job when you season it just right. As far as the cold thing goes, I'm a heater. Only time I get cold is if I'm really sick with a fever. So that hasn't changed any as of yet! Hope you're doing well. -

I thought kicking soda would be a lot harder. Because I had 4-5+ per day plus 2-3 energy drinks for several years. I know how it can be very tough to kick. You're not the only one with several vices. There's no easy way to kick all at the sametime. Very few people could ever do that. Getting rid of them won't happen in a day. I wish you the best in trying to do so. One battle at a time. -

My Doctor has warned me several times about any carbonated drinks and having caffeine. I used to drink diet soda's and sugar free energy drinks several times a day. I've not had one since December. I've had some caffeine in the way of B-12 energy shots, but it has been very little compared to the energy drinks I used to have daily. I can't say I miss the soda, the energy drinks I do. Especially since my energy has been sapped these last few weeks. -

The bariatric hospital I go to has an online support group. I've attended a few of them. One thing that always comes up Is chicken breast, everyone has problems with it. I've had issues with it lately. I'm not going to mess with it anymore, I can't eat as much of it as I can ground meat. Which allows me to get the protein in that I need. -

I do tend to weigh myself twice a week. I'm sure that doesn't help. But, it would if the scale would move. I just expected a faster response from the surgery. From October up to the two weeks before my surgery, I had lost nearly 70 lbs. Just from changing my diet and exercise. I'm still doing the same thing, but I'm eating less. May 8th I see the Doctor at the bariatric hospital I go to. That will be my 3 month post op appointment. I'll have another blood work-up then to see if there's any issues with nutrition and vitamin deficiency. I've lost over 100 lbs. since October, so that's definitely a big plus. -

Chicken, Turkey & Bison ground meat is the easiest for me to eat and get enough in where I can get the protein I need. However, chicken breast is another matter. for some reason I can only eat about 2-2.5 oz of chicken breast. But I can have almost two cups of ground meat. Deli meats, I can get in about one to one and a half slices before I fill up. Greek yogurt with Pbfit2 chocolate and protein powder mixed is my go to. I can eat two cups and not feel stuffed. Weird thing is when it comes to eggs, I can eat two fried eggs easily, but two scrambled eggs and I can't finish it. Only thing I'm concerned with, is how very slow my weight loss is. I'll lose a pound or two, then go two to three weeks without losing. In fact, I weighed last week and gained a pound. I'm not sure how that's possible, but I managed it. The dietician and Doctor has assured me that's normal. -

I can get up to 60+ grams of protein from food. Mainly from chicken, turkey and eggs. I still have one protein shake for breakfast. My 1st snack I eat an egg wrap with a couple ounces of deli turkey and fat free cheese. My 2nd snack is 70 grams of Greek yogurt with protein powder and a couple tsp of PBfit2. -

My doctor told me about the Patches, but as I said I didn't have any issues with taking the vitamins orally. So I just stuck with them. I have my next appointment in May, I'll have more bloodwork at that time. Vitamin D was the only deficiency they worried about before surgery. So they put me on a weekly pill. I'm no workout king, it's only moderate exercise. I just try to be consistent. I hope all goes ell for you too. I believe everyone here is going the right direction, and that's all you can hope for. -

I feel your pain with an injury. Tore my meniscus ligament in my knee. They wouldn't let me have surgery on it until I am 40 bmi. I'm there now, but I'm buying some time to be certain I have no issues since my gastric bypass. The surgeon suggested I wait at least three months post bariatric surgery. Trying to walk more is a problem, I can get a mile.or so in walking before the pain is too much. I'm looking forward to get it taken care of. I was wondering how well the vitamin patches work. I'm not having issues with taking vitamins orally. But there's so much berry flavored vitamins you can have before the tastes is meh. -

After the vitamin infused IV yesterday I do feel better. However, the health professional administering the IV said I was dehydrated. Which seems weird, at that point in the day I already had 64 ounces of water along with 12 oz Gatorade zero. Typically I get 72 -80 ounces by the end of the day. Fluids haven't been an issue for me. I'm sending a message to my doctor to see if there could be an issue absorbing fluids. I've never heard of that, but it seems weird im drinking so much water and still deemed dehydrated. Could be a reason for the slow weight loss maybe. -

I've seen many different recipes for pizza crust using chicken and turkey. I use ground chicken or turkey to make the crust mix with prok rinds to make the crust base easier to mold. My weight loss has been slow. According to my scale which could be off a couple pounds. I've lost 30 lbs since Feb 7th. I eat small snack size meals 4 sometimes 5 times a day. My goal is 90 G of protein a day but I typically hit 110-115 G. Carbs I'm supposed to stay near 30 g. But I typically hit 40. I always log on the baritastic app. I exercise each evening. Rowing machine with light weights. Im sure I'm trading some muscle weight with fat loss. I think our bodies are so used to eating more calories, that it's a shock and the body needs a lot of time to adjust. I've lost a lot of inches in my waist. So that's a plus. It's going into the right direction a lot slower than I expected. Which my doctor has said is normal. This evening im going to get an IV with vitamin Infusion to see if that helps with me feeling exhausted in the evenings. -

I live in Northeastern Oklahoma. We had about 95% coverage of the Eclipse. I took pictures through my welding lens. But it was grainy and not very clear. In 2045 there will be a total ecplise through our area. Maybe I'll be around for that one. -

The stalls keep hitting me as well. Losing weight after Gastric bypass is a lot slower than I expected. Only fast food I've ate was grilled chicken nuggest from chic-fil-A and chicken protein bowl from subway. Both last a couple meals. Instead.of trying to eat any meal. I just eat a few bites of protein and veggies. At 4-5 times a day. -

My dietician wanted me to get at least 90g of protein a day and 30g or less carbs. My energy has been sapped as well. But I also work 55-60 hours a week. So that doesn't help much along with getting in some exercise daily. So, I've been getting in 40-45 g of carbs and that seemed to help some. But I've also had no more than 100 grams.of caffiene every couple days. I use the baritastic app and log everything. It's helps a lot. My dietician can log in and see what I've been doing. She hasn't said anything, but I also don't have an appointment with her until next month. I think my issues are getting enough vitamins and minerals. My hair used to grow very fast, now it doesn't. I take three multivitamins a day and two B-complex vitamins. Along with calcium chews. I also have an appointment with the bariatric center where I had the surgery. I'm certain they will have another round of blood tests to see if I have any deficiencies. Sorry this was a book. 😁 -

I try to get more than 90 g of protein and less than 40 g of carbs. That's the range my dietitian wanted time to be at. Calories don't matter, I mention it as a guide. They just wanted the protein and carbs. I log what I eat and drink everyday on the Baritastic app. The dietician can also see what I log as well. -

Sorry to hear about the struggles. Only issues I'm having so far is how slow my weight loss has been since surgery. I'm going to eat two meals and add protein soups and shakes for my other meal and snacks. I've been getting at least 1000 calories and 100 grams of protein a day. Along with doing exercise daily. My Dr said it's expected to lose slow. Just seems odd to me. -
I lost 70+ lbs. before I had my surgery. I've been eating healthy for a while now. But, it starting going into overdrive back in October. As of my weight today I've lost 25 pounds since my surgery. I had a 10 day stall and started to worry a bit because it was the time between my surgery and when I started soft foods. My surgeon and Dietician told me that would happen. I expected it, but it still had me second guessing at the time. One thing I've taken from all of the stories everyone has, nobody loses the same. I keep that in mind and then realize I'm only 7 weeks post op. I try to walk a 1-2 miles at least two days a week or more. I would like to walk more, but I have a torn meniscus that's going to require a full knee replacement (bone on bone). So, I'm limited without being in a lot of pain. On the days I don't walk, I use my rowing machine or I do some resistance training with a band or light weights. Thanks for your advice and story of what you've been through. I hope you're able to get where you want to be and I wish you the best!

I grew up in the country. So, the only time I would eat fish is when it's fried. But, those days aren't going to happen anytime soon. Grilled fish is good, but I can't eat it very often. If Bison wasn't so pricey, I would be eating it the most. I try to be mindful of chewing more and taking my time. That's a work in progress. -
Did you have any stalls or lose fast at certain times throughout post op?

I've been trying to eat food to get my protein in without relying on protein shakes. I don't mind them, but food is more filling. I haven't tried steak yet. I've grilled chicken breast and tried it in the Instapot and I can get about half of it down. It fills me up fast, mainly the reason I've been sticking with the grounds meats.
