Hi, I've been lurking for a few months while I was trying to decide which surgery to have. I am scheduled for Lap Band surgery on May 23rd. I have my pre-op and final visit with the surgeon this Friday. I've been reading posts from people who are having very little weight loss or very slow, hungry, eating what they used to, disappointed, etc. etc. This really scares me. Is this the norm? I am worried that I made the wrong decision. I am 58 and don't have time to make a big mistake like this and go in for a revision.:cry I"ve read all the 'statistics' but I could use the real scoop on what the typical person can expect. Please can someone help?

Surgery 23rd and feeling unsure...

Thank you for responding...it's very kind of you to share your thoughts. I've been in the same 'thinking pattern'...so will talk to the surgeon and see what he says on Friday. Janey -
I have clinical depression and I am scheduled for surgery May 23rd. I passed the psych exam with no problems. I think that they are looking for people with major psyhiatatric problems who may hurt themselve or that their depressiion might interfere with their complliance or ability to take care of themselves post-op. Just talk to the psychiatrist or therapist about how you are depressed because of your weight. I'd call the surgical group and ask them if they do surgery on people with depression . If they say no then find one that will. They are out there. Good luck,

Is this my worst nightmare....YES!
jcbydesign replied to Kelliebelly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
//This is my worst nightmare, remember my weight gain is inevitable post?// I don't have my band yet so can't comment about that but I was wondering if you have been tested for Hyliobacter Pylori (H.Pylori)?? Sometimes that can cause all kinds of problems...and you could have had this lovely little bacteria that lives in your duodenum since you were a kid. A simple blood test is all you need and if you do have it then they give you two antbiotics and prylosec. All gone and symptoms such as heatburn...gone, too. It's worth checking out. I know because my surgeon always does this test for his Lapband patienst...and sure enough I had it, which explained my heartburn. I haven't had any since i finished the medications. -
:huggie: I am pre-op and have been struggling with finding the answer to this question. (probably not lookin in the right place). Are posts covered by insurance post surgery and if so for how long. I know some insurances may be different but I'd like a general idea. If they are self pay then what is the average cost per fill? Anyone know about Medicare policy on post-op fills? Also, is there an average number of times people 'usually' go for posts first year and after? Does having to get fills and not having the time or some such cause people to gain weight while waiting to get their fill? Janey

I am researching Lapband vs RNY as my surgeon told me I could decide which one. I would like to know about 'fills'....how often do they have to be done, how successful are they? Is this a 'yoyo' type thing where you feel full and then don't and start eating larger amounts and then have to go back and get a refill? That's what it sounds like from some of the posts. Confused. Also, does insurance cover fills for life or do you have to pay for them after a year? I like the idea of the safer lapband but I do eat a lot, have a tough time dieting...so wondering how this would work for me. Not sure of the other questions I should be asking so fire away with what ever else you might think I need to think about prior to my decidion. Thanks so very much....
