I am 7 weeks out. Yesterday I was weeding in the heat and suddenly I felt hot, dizzy and sweaty and then started dry heaving for about 3 minutes. Today, I was at the farmers market and after a couple of hours (hot but shady) I had the same thing happen. :omg: I think even though I was drinking Water it must not have been enough because I felt dehydrated. My real worry is the dry heaves...they are quite severe since you have nothing to bring up and I am worried about slipping the band. Do I need to go have a flouro to check or just continue eating mushies for a few days. I don't see the doc until the 17th when I am schedule for my first fill. Thanks!

Update on my September Challenge...6 pounds gone and 14 to go. Grin!!!
-
I think sometimes our body takes a breather to sort of catch up. I know that I have the roller coaster type weight loss but when I really started getting hungry I began watch what I ate (bander style) and drank Protein shakes inbetween meals to help with the hunger. The losing started back up again but it's still one or two steps forward and then one step back...but as long as the trend is going down I can handle this roller coaster ride. I also will have my first fill on the 17th and am soooo hoping for some restriction. This hunger is not fun.

You didn't say if you have restriction? I am dying to know as I go on the 17th...so I need hope. :scared:

I am starting regular food this week. I have a list of suggested foods by category and what constitutes a portion but they don't say how much to eat. How many cups/ounces total per meal? I don't want to stretch the pouch need to know the amount/volumne to put in it at one meal. :help: One cup? Half cup? One and one half? Confused... Thanks!!!!!

BIG congatulations!!!! It's those inches that really makes us smile.
-
I think that once you are restricted again you will have less trouble...after the fill stick to full liquids for a couple days and then plan what you are eating. Go back to recording/planning your day's meals on Fitday.com Most importantly try to eat something healthy when you start craving carbs...or drink a protein drink. Hope this helps.

How many of us have NOT had major problems with the band?
jcbydesign replied to tztmama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First of all you will probably get the wrong idea because the people who are having problems generally write about it but the rest of us don't write to say we're doing fine. It gives the wrong impression. If you write and ask who would have the surgery again...you'll get most people telling you they'd 'do it in a minute'. Having said that most of the reflux/sliming/PB problems are self induced. By this I mean not chewing enough, eating too fast, eating too much and eating the wrong foods, eating solids too soon. The back/chest pain is only after surgery and goes away within a few days to a week generally. Or is also caused by the same reasons as above. Eating too much or too fast will cause chest/shoulder or side pain. You learn to eat the bander way...slowly chewing carefully and following the doctors instructions. Personally I would do it again in a minute!!! :grouphug: Hope this helps. -
I forgot and posted this question to the general discussion group so I am reposting it here as I really need some help. :help: I have a list of what to eat but not portion sizes or TOTAL AMOUNT of cups/ounces per meal. One cup? One half cup? More? Less in am and more at dinner or same for each meal? :noidea: I'd appreciate any help you can give me as it's regular food and no more soft food for me this week. Eeeek! :faint: Thanks...:nervous

question about liquid prptien drinks
jcbydesign replied to hippmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon's rules say no protein shakes once you are on solid food. This does NOT work for me...and since I am doing well...I don't tell him. I drink one for breakfast and then one mid afternoon or late night snack. They fill me up and satisfy me between meals and they provide the extra protein that I can't seem to get just from food. I use the Synthrax Nectar (yummy fruit flavors) or the Synthrax Essence (yummy vanilla or chocolate). They have no carbs or fats, are sweetened with spenda, so no horrid after taste, they have no protein 'taste' and are only 90 calories. But there are lots available so I am sure you'll find some you like. Vitalady.com and Bariatriceating.com and a few other sites have samples you can order. Hope this helps. -
Experienced Bandsters, what are your tricks of the trade?
jcbydesign replied to ChicagoCoco's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think most of us obsess about food for a few weeks. I watched Food Network constantly and I am not the only one who has reported they developed a sudden interest in Emeril, Iron Chef and Giada! Head hunger is something we all struggle with but it is SO much easier once you are on solid food. -
Shave some ice and drizzle Da Vinci sugar free syrup and you have a great but sugar free snow cone! They have apple, cherry, strawberry, etc.

What Foods did you have to give up?
jcbydesign replied to BakoGal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I eat triscuits and wheat thins but you could eat any hard cracker. Check the box for fiber...you could use them as scoops for refried beans , some chopped tomato a bit of fat free cheese and have 'nachos'.:biggrin1: -
Thank you...that really helps. Off to lunch now...

Would paying for someone else's band be offensive?

What a wonderful daughter! -
You and me both. I only lost 19 pounds so far. I was banded on the 23rd but I don't get to have a fill for two more weeks! I have been afraid of real food, too but decided that it's time to have faith in what I read here...so! I cooked a lamb chop but only was able to eat about 1/3....can you believe it? I have also had fish...and I can eat about 3-4 oz of that. I've had 4 shrimp with cocktail sauce. The point is that I didn't suddenly start eating like a pre-op. You really do stop sooner, even without the restriction! I think your head changes as well as your appetitie since you haven't been eating anything much for over a month. Take faith in hand and make some good 'food' choices.

I would write a letter to the medical practice or HMO or whatever he belongs to and send a copy to the state medical association. The more complaints these types get in their files, the better. I used to be a nurse (past tense) also and this is hardly the first time I've heard of such behavior...and behind the scenes it's even worse. Oh, after you get your records, I'd send him a copy with a note attached saying you will never use him again after his rude behavior and unprofessionalism.

GNC - High Performance Product (incl protein shakes) on sale!
jcbydesign replied to juliegeraci's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Synthrax Nectar's are great with water and yummy, too. They are fruit flavored, no protein after taste and have 90 calories, no carbs, no fats. I love the Fuzzy Navel, the Twisted Cherry and the Roadside Lemonade. Synthrax Essense has the same breakdown of cal's and nutrients but comes in vanilla and chocolate. The vanilla is good I look forward to slurping it. All these are fairly thin in texture which helps me because I gag on most of the other thick ones. I buy them from wholesalesupplementstore.com because they are the cheapest I've found. Hope this helps... -
Back on the losing side again - excited!
jcbydesign replied to juliegeraci's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That's just fabulous. I am curious what amount of calories you were eating to make you stop losing and what did you up it to? I don't want to make the same mistake and I am a newbie just on foods. -
I want to be part of the Maysters September challenge. So put me down for 20 lbs!

Would you do it again or choose another option?

Have you considered talking to a different bariatric doctor? I know there are people who weight what you do and have had the band. They have done great, too. JMHO
