    Just had an odd experience

What you described; occasionally light headed when standing up...racing heart, all with different foods and quantities was what I was and still am going through - exactly as you described. As I posted before my cardiologist said its dumping, the Bariatric surgeon said dumping combined with low blood pressure and/or dehydrated for the dizzy aspect symptoms. I do notice and am more aware of the coalition of less water consumption = dizzy upon standing or just in general now. He did say to try to slow down eating as it might help. The issue I have is I don't have 30 mins to casually sit and eat my food all the time - to eat "aware" or "mind fully." Sometimes I'm lucky to just get my protein down! I will say that once I had both doctors associate it to dumping I paid more attention to it and when it is happening, after I eat I can associate it directly to eating now. So I'm going to say they were right - its dumping. Good luck with the cardiologist.

What would you do or have you done since surgery..

All amazing goals that I'm sure you'll accomplish. Congratulations on starting down this road, so many possibilities! Btw..in regards to your #1...you will never have enough energy, healthy weight or not 😋
  3. I'm officially no longer "obese" and now classified as "overweight!" Years ago when I was 108 lbs (my old adult holding weight until the last 10 years) would I have ever thought there would come a day that I'd celebrate being "overweight!"

I hit my one year surgery anniversary next Wednesday (August 21st, 2023) and just so happen to have my final bariatric clinic check up on the same day. I'm looking forward to seeing my surgeon and being officially released into the wild! 😋

I'm curious as to what my labs will say, especially since they told me to not take my vitamins a few days before the labs. To be honest, I find this confusing since the whole point of taking vitamins is to keep your stats within normal ranges - to assure they're working as intended, yet since I quit taking them it will show I need to take them..so I'll hear "make sure to take your vitamins!" A vicious circle. Who knows why?!

Anyway, I have 40lbs to go to meet my goal and I'm really hoping I can do it in the next 6 months (for a total of 18 months post surgery). At my starting weight the charts show only 20% reach their goal within 18 months with a starting weight of 259 the day of surgery. I'd like to add that to achieved goals. Fingers crossed!

I'm amazed and thankful for everyone here on these forums who've supported me, answered my questions and understood the plight! Thank you all, you know who you are.

What would you do or have you done since surgery..

That's the way we're leaning since we're getting older and don't want the home maintenance... Which part you looking at to move? We usually vacation in Sanibel, Destin, Marco Island or the keys..I take it rental insurance is a bit better?

What would you do or have you done since surgery..

I've often thought of moving there, or the South East coast, but the house insurance rates in Florida have made me think twice and three times about it. I've seen insurance rates as high or higher than the mortgage each month! Wowsa! I'd still love too..but dang I don't know how ppl do it.

Eating Changes 3 months post RNY Surgery

"also fear having to eat in public or in front of those that do not know I have had surgery." Isn't it a shame that with all the push these days to accept everyone for who/what they are, its still acceptable to fat shame and be judgemental of others for a medical condition? Its the one thing left that people deem an "acceptable" judgement because people feel its all our fault - as if we just pushed away from the table more people wouldn't be over weight. Judgemental people continue to do so without societal repercussions. I've seen the same people jump on someone for saying things about being judged for them being LGBQ, yet these same ppl said some nasty things to me and others for being obese! Everyone should be able to go out and enjoy dining out without fear of being watched. I too understand why you'd fear this, but you need to get to a point in your life that others opinions of you just don't matter, especially strangers. Once you get there it can be quite liberating! You deserve to enjoy your life without others condemning your living it!

What would you do or have you done since surgery..

Wow! That's an amazing list. I understand not feeling "worthy" if you don't love yourself, but know that no matter what you deserve love. You sound amazing, generous and a person worth treasuring! It sounds as if you have a wonderful, loving family who I'm sure would be more than glad to tell you the same. When you going to DC? Hopefully in the spring so you can enjoy the flowering cherry trees! Have fun, thanks for sharing!

    Education Session

I too found the required group meeting pointless. I did it online because I'm not a group therapy type. The topics were just listening to others who've gone through it and to be frank like you I found it boring and lacked any real info. I too find this forum a better alternative. So..just go through the hoops and come out the other side!

    Weird bulge in abdomen

Sounds like a hernia. Since you can't see a doctor keep an eye on it and make sure its not tender to the touch and you have no pain associated with it. If you start to feel pain see a doctor immediately as it could have become a strangulated hernia which needs medical intervention. I'm not a doctor, but in the medical field having also at one time been a paramedic. I've encountered several in the field where people ignored the pain. Is it worse when you cough, sit up from laying down or when you strain? Probably a hernia.

    MILK

Try using a lactose free brand and see if that helps. I thought about trying a oat or nut variety but personally decided against those due to recent research on finding higher dosages of toxic metals and they have less protein: "There are 32.7g of protein in 1kg of whole cow's milk, according to the USDA. The density of milk is roughly 1.03g per cm³. So there are 33.7g of protein in 1l of whole cow's milk. There are 8g of protein in 1kg of oat milk, according to the USDA. Using the same density, this equates to 8.24g of protein in 1l of oat milk." Also, I was looking for something more "carbon friendly" but through research found: "Producing 33.7g of protein from whole cow's milk releases 3.15kg of carbon dioxide, according to the University of Oxford. Therefore, 10g of protein releases 0.9kg of carbon dioxide. Producing 8.43g of protein from oat milk releases 0.9kg of carbon dioxide. Therefore, 10g of protein releases 1.1kg of carbon dioxide. So, I went lactose free to get more protein for a bit to see if it fixed my sudden lactose intolerance. It did, but I also found after awhile my intolerance was absent - for which I am thankful since it does cost more! Do what and why works for you. 😁

    Just had an odd experience

I had the exact same happen to me and like you and I posted on here asking pretty much the same thing. I actually went to my doctor and she having had a bypass 5+ years prior wasn't sure what it was. I was given a heart monitor to wear for 7 days and then an appointment with a cardiologist all to be told I'm in great heart shape - "no worries". It was just dumping syndrome apparently. I hadn't heard or read it could present by just a racing heart. I had researched and read probably like you that dumping syndrome presented as the following: 1. Nausea 2. Sweats 3. Cramps 4. Possible diarrhea 5. Possible throwing up etc. Etc...A combo of symptoms So add to that, A possible racing heart only! I even thought at the time it could just be my new stomach being located closer to my heart so I was feeling it more!? Nope dumping syndrome! I hope this saves you some worry and doctor time!

Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win??🥇

I understand wanting to see what actual size you are! I've been holding off for several reasons: 1. I really hate trying on clothes whether I'm fat or not ..I've never enjoyed clothes shopping. 2. I just purchase online sometimes medium (more often) sometimes large. I'm not sure what that converts to in numbered sizes and 3. Like you, I don't want to spend a lot on clothes only to have to get more later! So yeah, I understand..but I can tell by your excitement it might be worth it to give it a try! Congratulations, you're doing so amazingly well! You've got this!!

Diet drinks 1 year post op

I don't drink diet sodas at all. I have gone to a no nutritional value and unhealthy chemicals = I don't touch it. I think to myself why drink something with no nutrients and unhealthy chemicals, that stops any potential cravings. I'm also a person who slips down the slippery slope at hypersonic speed, so I personally don't risk it.

Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win??🥇

50% of bypass patients reach at least 166 lbs 18 months after surgery. Based on my starting weight of 271. I'm coming up on my 12 month surgery anniversary (Aug 21st) and I'm already below this statistic as of today! I even did a happy dance (my pups thought I was nuts). 😆 I'm hoping with 6 months until 18 months that I'll be in this category: 20% of patients reach 149 lbs 18 months after surgery. If the above isn't enough, I met up with another friend I haven't seen in 6 months for breakfast this morning, she walked right past me twice looking for me!

  22. Easiest way I determined a "sip" think about how you'd take a test sip of something that might be too hot. That's a sip.

Question: Could this be Dumping Syndrome

"No not dumping. I agree with @catwoman7: Orthostatic hypotension. Your blood pressure dropped from getting up quickly. It’s not that uncommon after surgery while you’re losing and until your body re-regulates itself." Exactly this, I had and am still having this. I was told its probably due to dehydration and I do notice it more when I drink less and down on my overall water consumption.
