In 2003 I had the lap band surgery. Every follow up visit with the doctor I complained that I could not eat without throwing up. He would just tell me that it was because I was not chewing my food properly. I los 40 lbs in six months which was a great disappointment for me and my dr. After a year I finally quit going to my follow up appointments - I wasn't losing the weight I should so they would tighten the band and then I would throw up water so they have to take some out of the band. I spend from 2003 to 2012 throwing up 2-3 times a day. I got to be expert of quietly throwing up at my desk at work trying to eat a simple lunch. I avoided going out and If I did we always sat near a bathroom - I have been known to have the wait staff move us closer to the bathroom in case I needed to make a dash - I didn't want to throw up "on the way". I have thrown up in my car while driving back to work with a group of coworkers - most humiliating time of my life. Things had to change. So in 2012 I had the band removed and one year later I got the sleeve.
