Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
julie.ann replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Well there haven't been any postings today, but overall I don't think I am missing any. I know there has been trouble with that twice. -
I hope for 2 pounds a week. I have set up a spreadsheet to see where I will be if I lose 2 pounds a week. If I lose more that is great, but I aim for 2. During Thanksgiving week I only lost 1 lbs. That was okay. I would just rather do a little better.
-
Have you tried a food journal? I use the one on www.sparkpeople.com I know it is the second most important tool I use!
-
WOW! 72 lbs is amazing! How much is from losing post-op?
-
I was scared that the weight wouldn't come off. I was afraid that I would spend all this money and be sitting on the couch eating crap weight the same or more a year after my surgery. I was SO SCARED. Not of the procedure...OF FAILING! Bypass was never something I considered. I have a friend that had it done. She has done well. I'm not saying it is a bad surgery, but I am saying that I didn't want anything to do with dumping syndrome, malabsorption issues or MAJOR surgery. Lap band seemed to be a dream some true. Minor laprascopic surgery, adjustable, reversible. Great...where to I sign up. Yep I had to sign alright...the loan papers to afford my surgery. It has been work but I can push forward with the results I am seeing. I keep telling myself that this is the last time I lose these pounds. I've had one fill. In 2 months I have said good-bye to the 280s, 270s, 260s and 250s. I am now down 41 pounds from my pre-op weight. Don't kid yourself. I keep track of everything I eat. I workout. But the band makes it easier. I love my band. Good luck!
-
WOW! That's tomorrow. No 2 week pre-op diet for you! Good luck!
-
I am very proud of myself. I had to work the consession stand at the ballgame tonight. I was in charge of dishing up the frito-chilli pie, nachos, taco salad, pizza and hot dogs. I didn't eat any of it until I realized I was going to have to eat supper there and then I had 1 piece of med beef pizza. That is it! :tt1: I am so glad I have my band. I couldn't have done that before. Even if I did I would have gotten home and eaten anything I could find. Now I am going to bed instead. Did I mention I love my band?!?!?!:tt1:

I haven't been in a 14 since high school. I think maybe my freshman year. I can't imagine a 12 but I think I want to shoot for a 10. My mom has worn a 10 for as long as I remember and I want to be able to wear that. I can't really explain it. I can't fathom being able to wear those sizes! Really! I just can't! Oh by the way I am 2 pounds away from the 40# mark. I can't believe it. Just 2 months ago I weighed 285.5 before I started pre-op!:tt1: -
Maybe you should call your doctor. I worry about you being too tight.
-
Wow you are tight! Good luck I hope you loosen up a bit so you can eat! Just curious. How much was your fill?
-
Have you tried to eat real food? Care for soft calorie syndrome. Great job on the 20lbs loss!

A potion for lose skin really works

I went to walmart and could find a bunch of Palmers, but I got the concentrated cream. I couldn't find the weight loss and pregnancy. Plenty of pregnancy, but nothing that said weight loss. -
What are you upset about? You have lost 4.1lbs per week. :w00t:That is AMAZING! My ticker shows the weight I lost pre-op too, which was 14 lbs. So since surgery I have lost 23 lbs. We have done great! Don't get too hard on yourself! keep doing what you are doing and good luck with the fill!

12/5/08 My first fill! Yeah! What a ton of weird feelings. I never had anyone walk me through what it was like to have a fill, so I am going to put it down here. Well first I should say that Dr. Kirshenbaum is the one that did my fill and every doctor is probably different. So I went in and they weighed me. I don’t mind getting on the scale as long as the numbers are going down. I went into the exam room and there was a sonogram machine on one side of the table. So I laid down on the exam table and the doctor came in and felt for my port. No problem. That was easy. He cleaned my tummy with alcohol and then betadine. He asked if I was ready and after I said yes her poked me with the syringe. It didn’t hurt at all. He worked on getting all the air out of the syringe/needle. I had a little stinging sensation a couple of times, but I think that was either the saline hitting the inside of the port or from the needle being in where I’m not used to having a needle. J He had 2 syringes. One had 1.7 of saline in it and the other had like 2.5 of saline. He put the 1.7 in my band and then had me stand up. So now I have a needle sticking out of my tummy. Yeah it was as weird as it seemed! I drank some water without any problem. So now he puts more saline in and says drink some more water. OMG! I it just stayed in my pouch. Just sat there! It felt so strange. I wanted to cough it up or something. He took out about .5cc and then no problem. Now we did the dance. He put in .4cc and I took a drink and there was a definite hesitation in my pouch and then a tiny burp down there and it drained. He took out .2cc and I could drink and a tiny hesitation and then it drained. He took out .1cc and no hesitation now. I can drink and it was just fine. 2.8cc for my first fill. I know the number is arbitrary, but still nice to know. I took food with me so I didn’t have to worry about what I was going to eat. It has been a habit that has been working pretty well. Even if DH and kids eat at McDonalds I have something to eat. So anyway I had some cottage cheese and chicken salad. No problem. I went to TGI Fridays and had a grilled chicken breast. Small mindful bites and no problem. I can’t believe that .10cc more and I would be too tight. That is only a couple of drops of saline. Amazing. I guess the band is much touchier than I thought. I think some doctors have set amounts for fill. (.5 for each one or something.) I’m glad Dr. K isn’t like that. Fill till restriction then pull back just enough. Sounds good to me. Oh then he pulled out the syringe. WEIRD!!!!! No pain though. I will go back January 9th for my second fill. I even got to meet someone from lapbandtalk.com! That was cool too. The girls in the office today recommended this thrift store for cheap in-between jeans. So I look for jeans and I finally see this one pair of petite jeans. There were a size 18P Sonoma brand for $4 so I thought I would get them and they can be a goal. I started in a size 22 and they are baggy, but my only jeans so I wore them today. So I just got home from Denver (7 hr drive) and I hold them up and say to myself that there is NO WAY, but I'll try and see how far I get...they will be my first pair of "goal jeans". Guess what...yep! THEY FIT!!!! Not comfy enough to lounge around the house, but I can wear them out if I want to. WOW! What a day. My first fill and this!

Thanks for the info! You just can't find this information anywhere else! -
Which did you choose? Which you picked and why. I plan to go with the Lap Band because my doctor has done more of those and he is confident in both. There is $100 difference for the Realize Band and I thought I wanted the lower profile port, but decided I would love to worry about wether my port is visable in a year! I'll answer the poll once I have my band.

That is funny. I think we are getting our daughter a guitar and amp for christmas. She plays the flute, has started the guitar, drums and wants to pick up her brothers sax. Can you tell she wants to be a music major! -
Protein first then veggies is what I am always told and that is what I try to do. Small bites and chew chew chew. When you say you feel restriction does that mean it won't go down? If it will go down just very slowly then that sounds great. If it won't go down then maybe you are a tad too tight.
-
I just had a mini surprise. I got out my christmas stuff and I found my old (that look brand new) jeans that I haven't been able to wear in about 3 or 4 years (or more). I have some 18P and a few 16P. Although I found a size 18P that fit me (and you could have knocked me over with a feather!) none of these fit. That's okay thought because I think that in February if not January I will be wearing them! Women's pants are so funny the way the same size is so differnt. I found a size 18 that fits and I have a size 22 that doesn't and one size 22 that is really too big. I guess it's true you shouldn't look at the label. Just find what fits you well! I'm so happy I won't have to start buying jeans that I plan on not fitting into soon. I was stressing about wastig money that way. Hope you are having a great weekend..if not today starts a new day. Start fresh!

I would call him and expain everything to him. It may depend on how long you will be on steroids. The worst he can say is no. I feel for you. Needing to take steroids would suck! Great job on the loss so far. That is great!
-
This is a great group. I would also suggest that you go the the forums and look for the January 2009 forum. They are where you are and it is great to have people to talk to that are in the same stage as you. The forums are great as are the blogs! Good luck!

Penny.... 67 lbs. That outstanding! Great job!

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

It was great to meet you. My fill went great. It did feel really weird! I posted about it here. My First Fill....Strange! - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum I have 2.8cc in my band. I don't know if it helped my hunger every 3 hours. I will find out more this week. I can tell I have restriction. If I don't chew everything I'll slime. Even scrambled eggs. As long as I chew I do ok. Small bites! I have my next fill on Jan 9th too! 11:00am. So I guess we will see each other again! I hope I won't need another fill....but I know I will. I am wondering if the affect of the fill wears off after a little while. Is there swelling that will go down so I lose some restriction? Can anyone help me with that question?
