I'm glad you are starting to feel better! Take care! -
WTG! That's great! When were you banded?

The worst it ever got, after I had been driving and I was about in tears it helped me to lay flat on the floor. I don't know why and didn't care...but it helped. In a few weeks you will forget about it and be in the next step of your journey. Good luck!

Maybe that's why some docs require a psyche eval....because of things that might happen to us like this! -

I don't have my glassess does the tag really say size 16?!?!?
julie.ann commented on julie.ann's blog entry in My Secret Journey
2-10-09 Did I really just do that? Did I really just buy a size 16? Does it matter they are stretchy? Does it matter they are from Wal-mart? Does it matter that they are a little snug? Does it matter that I feel like I will be able to wear these forever? I can’t imagine ever growing out of (or shrinking out of) these. I started out a size 24. I dug out my old size 18 and that was the smallest jeans I’ve had. I wore a size 16 about 9 years ago for just a little bit. I haven’t worn anything smaller than that since high school. I want to do a happy dance, but I’m still saving that for onederland! I love my band! -
Congrat! You have averaged more than 2 lbs a week! Way to go. You are above the goal line! Are you keeping track of what you eat? There are great online food journals out there that are completely free. I like sparkpeople.com some like thedailyplate. Remember you are still healing. Eating complex carbs like pasta, rice, potatoes or bread is going to bring on cravings too. Try to avoid them if possible. Protein is key in keeping the hunger at bay! You are doing great! If you gain a few pounds while you HEAL it is ok. You will get a fill soon and then all with be explained!

I am a nurse and I encourage you to report them too. I would include names if you know them in a letter to the DON or CEO and cc your doctor on it! -
First fill
julie.ann commented on sil's blog entry in Has anyone been band by dr. Bell or dr duffy yale newhaven hospital
My staple at mushies was cottage cheese. LOTS of proten. I can't believe you were still on mushies when you when in for your first fill. I was on regular food for a while before my first fill. Every doc is different. Does your doctor have a set amount he fills? Mine puts in until I feel restriction and then takes out a smidge until I don't. It works great for me! -

You have lost 15lbs since surgery. Isn't that about 2 lbs a week? The expected is 1-2 lbs per week. That is great and you are on target to lose 50-100 lbs in a year. -

If you are worried then have your doc clear you. Standard pre-op is an EKG, Chest X-ray and Urine sample. That's it. And it can be waved for a generally healthy person. If we don't have a UA then that is ok and often times insurance doesn't even pay for a CXR for general surgery. I work in a hospital. If you have had a history of heart problems and such Dr. K may have you get clearance from your doc. I was wheeled to surgery at 11:00am and discharged at 2:30. I wasn't worried about my heart or lungs. I am a healthy person. If you have questions ask Dr. K. If you still have reservation then find a different doctor. -
I am so bummed. I have gained 1.3 lbs in the past 2 days. I guess it is time to go back to basics!

Everything Mini said was right on. I'm glad that I was in the hotel. It was a nice hotel, I had a full be to myself. My hubby slept in the other full bed. Hospital beds are not comfortable and neither are the pillows. When I could sleep I did. I had my laptop and journaled when I felt up for it. I had a bunch of single serving jello and bought a case of bottled water. I had to get in the car and ride home for 7 hours the next day. I wish I lived closer and I wouldn't have wanted to fly but it was okay. You only have to do that once. After you heal the fills are no big deal IMO. Actually except for the drive I LOVE fills. I could get addicted to them if I lived closer! -
That is awesome. You have quit smoking and have come to Bandlandia! Keep up the great work! We are here for you!

What does your daily meals consist of?
julie.ann replied to sarahp626's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Angie, I use www.sparkpeople.com other people have used daily plate. They are free websites. If you go to spark people and register put in that I recomended you and search for my sparkpage. From there you can see my food log. It is a great thing and you can even put in recipes there to figure up the nutrients. I don't post on the boards there just because I have all the great people here for support. Using an online food journal is the second best thing I've ever done for my weight loss! Oh yeah, on spark people I am NURSEMOM5. That would help! -
2-7-09 *Results not typical (???) I have seen that little asterisk next to all of those people that have supposedly lost weight on all of those diet programs. If those results aren’t typical then why are they telling us that we can do what they did? If that isn’t the expected outcome for the majority of people then why are they shoving them in our face? I was banded in October. I am almost 4 months from the time I started my pre-op diet. Four months ago I weighed 285 lbs. Today I weigh about 222 lbs. Is that typical? I have seen others in my Smashing Pumpkins group (that is what we called ourselves that where banded in October) that have done just as well if not better than I have. Some have not lost as much as I have, but are doing GREAT! I think that most people can do great with the band. Then every once in a while I run into a thread where people say that they can’t lose weight. They have tried, but they are hungry and they haven’t lost much. Is that typical? I ask myself have I done something they haven’t. I have had to really listen to my body to find the difference between head hunger and true hunger. I think that is the hardest thing to do and the biggest hurdle to climb. Telling the difference between the hungers. Well that is getting off of topic. My question is what is typical? Everyone is different. Are my results typical? I think they are because this isn’t has hard as I thought it would be. It is tough and lately I have been eating more. I need to go back to watching my calories a little closer although I still keep track of everything. Pick a day in the past 4 months and I could tell you what I ate and how many calories I had along with carbs and protein. It is that cookie I decide to splurge on a couple of times a week. That is the little stuff I need to watch. I think I have had a cookie 5 times in the past 2 weeks. It tastes good. I don’t feel deprived, but is that taste and feeling worth the extra 22 carbs that are in that little cookie? No I guess not. I am down to a size 18. I’m glad I kept these from 5 years ago. These are the last pants I have left before I have to start buying smaller sizes. I have a suitcase full of clothes that don’t fit me anymore. I have lost 63 lbs. Is that enough? Am I happy with the weight I am now? NO! So next time I have to put that damn cookie down and ask myself ARE YOUR REALLY HUNGRY? IS IT WORTH LOSING 2 LBS THIS WEEK INSTEAD OF 3? IS THAT TASTE OF CHOCOLATE WORTH NOT FEELING AS GOOD ABOUT MYSELF LATER? Are my results typical? For me I guess they are and if I want to keep it coming I better not use my great results as an excuse to slow down now!

Christy, I invite you to read my blog. I have my bandster rules posted there. You are right. I can eat anything I want as long as I take small bites. But just because I can eat it doesn't mean I SHOULD eat it. The band dims your appetite and that is a great thing because it gives you the extra resolve to eat the right things. I am very strict when it comes to no potatoes, pasta, rice or bread. I can eat it, but I don't because of the cravings it causes. You can still over eat. I comes with consequences. For me that means chest pain and feeling crappy for a while. If you over eat enough you stretch your pouch and then you are about back where you started. Am I on a diet? No, not really. I just have some rules for myself and first rule is that if I am not hungry I don't eat. I sounds like a little thing, but it isn't. If I want to eat I stop and ask myself if I am hungry. Yes, I literally say the words to myself. AM I HUNGRY? If am then I eat. If I'm not I do something else because I know I am not hungry. Please don't get the wrong idea about the band. It is not something you get and then you lose weight just because it is in your body. The band is a tool. It is a marvolous, glorious, beautiful tool, but still just a tool. You still have to eat the right foods. I could gain weight with the band if I ate ice cream and milk shakes and potatoes chips and all of those soft or crumbly foods that slip right through the band. You have to make a point to eat your solid protein first and then produce. You have to make healthy eating choices. You have to give up soda pop so you don't stretch your pouch. I really encourage you to go back to my blog and catch up. I have a few posts you will really like. One is "What my band does for me." and "Bandster's Guidelines" I think that might answer a lot of your questions....but if you have more just let me know. I can share what knowledge I have. I don't promise to have all the answers. Good luck on your journey. It is a great one to take!

I think that is a GREAT present for yourself! Besides then you will have it when you do have someone in bed with you and then you can still use it...together! Great idea! I used to sell "Slumber Parties" products. Those were fun parties!
