    April Bandsters?

four days and counting. day 10 of the liquid diet. it's getting psychological now. the urge to eat is habitual. i'm not sure i'm really hungry. this is an evolution. i can't believe i'm able to do this. surgery april 1st - no kidding. and i vote for another name for april. "at last april losses" ??? i'm not a big fan of bunnies at easter time... what does everyone else think? submit your suggestion for april and let's see what we get!
  2. not me. no way. i'm on day 10 (surgery April 1st and I started a day early). when you get to this stage, at least for me, i have hit bottom. This is my last resort. if this doesn't work, whatever will I do? so for me to cheat would be the most outrageous form of self sabotage imaginable.

  4. Hi Guys, I'm right there with you. Surgery April 1st. Started all liquid a day early. Day 10 and feeling hungry for the first time in a long time. Going to have my last shake now and that ought to do it for the night. Down 11 pounds. Not one single bite of food in 10 days. Wednesday will be here before we know it. The end and the beginning is in sight.

    April Bandsters?

Surgery Date April 1. 6 days and counting. Haven't had a bit of food since 3/17. And, no one has noticed! I might be drinking a bit more protein than I should be. Hunger comes and goes. Haven't taken advantage of things like SF Jell-O and SF popsicles. It might be time. I've lost 11 pounds during this pre-op so, there's that. I'm also having a hiatal hernia repair done at the same time so they are keeping me overnight. I guess that's a good thing. It takes some of the pressure off of my husband in case I'm so uncomfortable. He wouldn't know what to do as opposed to the staff. Hard to believe this is really happening. sigh. I am scared shitless and excited beyond belief....pretty much in that order. Oh, and one more thing: Are we stuck on BUNNY BANSTERS as our name??? Isn't that bit Easter dictated???
  6. I am a long time client of Physician's Weight Loss Center, as a client and having worked there for 3 years. Go to their site www.pwlc.com and check out their nutritional supplements. their meal replacements are a bit high in carbs (21g). feel free to email me if you have more questions. good luck

    What is your liquid diet?

Hi, I am on all liquid protein and this is day 8 pre op, surgery April 1st. I am drinking 2 Atkins shakes @ 11 oz, 15g protein, 9g fat, 5 carbs, and this awesome MetaRx stuff that is 51 grams of protein in a 15 oz can with 6 carbs, 240 calories, 1g fat. they say fat grams up to 30 are ok to help with hunger and protein, of course helps with hunger. they say limit protein up to 70g a day so i'm going to have to cut back - maybe cut out the MetaRx when i run out. check out www.vitacost.com for good prices...and good luck
  8. thanks, i read that, too. but i associated it with protein food rather than liquid. i wonder if there is a difference?
  9. Day #5 pre-op -- It hasn't even occured to me to cheat. it never occured to me that you CAN cheat with the band. They told me at the Dr's office, "you can get around this band, ya know" With apologies prior to making my point, i replied "I'm not fucking around here. I'm serious about this" i couldn't believe they tell you how NOT to cheat before you even have the thought. this is my last resort. i have hit bottom. this is the only thing i have left to do. i am not screwing this up for anything. i've read too many failed banders and stories of cheating and gaining. i don't mean to sound holier than thou, but i can't see going through all this and cheating my way out of success.

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Big Fat LOSER

i, too have fibromyalgia and have had it for decades. also 10 knee operations and an artificial knee. If you are so sore you cannot exercise, may i suggest something? get into the pool. nothing hurts in the water. your muscles get warm and the strength you gain is amazing. find classes that you can try out - most places will let you try a class for free. most of the others there are there because they cannot tolerate anything else and they love it. there are many medically programmed classes for specific ailments. it is something i found so worthwhile. the worse i feel, the more i want to be in the water where nothing hurts, i can move and get strong. it takes a committment and it takes some scheduling issues but it works and it works so well i can't begin to tell you. don't think about what you look like, think about what you feel like. i wish you the best and don't give up no matter what.

    day 5 liquid diet, starving

oh and one more thing, i wasn't given any food alternatives - not even a sugar free popsicle. and for me, this might be good -- maybe it is all or nothing for me -- like a food addict.....

    day 5 liquid diet, starving

DAY 5 FOR ME, TOO Hi There, i might be having the most unusual experience on my all liquid journey. I am being banded April 1st so this is day 5 for me. I haven't had true hunger pangs yet. I admit, the moment I got my date, my desire for food just shut down. $1.50 EACH -- I am drinking Atkins shakes - 15g protein and 9g fat so only 3 a day. $2.95 EACH - Then there is this whopping protein drink called Met Rx (check out www.vitacost.com) that is 51g in 15 oz with 1g fat, 6 carbs 2 sugars. I have at least one of these a day when i'm feeling the most hungry. $1.82 EACH - I thnk what is saving me is what I am sipping on throughout the day. I purchased cold powdered drinks from Physician's Weight Loss Center (www.pwlc.com) that are 8oz packages with 12g protein, 0 fat, 1 carb, 1 sugar. I take 3 packages and dissolve them into a 24oz water bottle and drink that throughout the day. I easily get that down since my mouth is so dry. That's 36 grams of protein. If you purchase 6 or more boxes the cost drops to about $1.82 for 1 packet. Today I had a slight moment of hunger at 2pm and again at 5pm. i think i'm bored more than anything, not quite realizing how much time i spent eating. I hope I was able to help in some way. and feel free to contact me if you want more help. i'm just as new as you are, though, but we can lead each other. good luck!

    Telling People You Are Banded?

while going through all these pre operative tests and with all these appointments, i've been telling people i've been having stomach problems. so now i've told them i'm having stomach surgery (April 1, 2009). it's major surgery and my stomach is really bad. post op i'll say that eating certain foods bothers my stomach and i'm not eating much these days. and i'll be losing weight.

    GAINED in PREOP??

frustrating for SURE. take the average of at least 3 days to account for variables. and, there are many variables from your cycle to the weather and on and on and on....so, don't make one day THE day - look at it as one of a few days....two steps forward one step back you're still ahead....
  16. Medical Marijuana has been extensively studied and used for decades. i'm an advocate of something that may have medicinal benefits. i prefer not to drink either.

    April Bandsters?

My surgery date is April 1st. Got it today. Starting all liquid tonight. April Fool's Day - was I a fool getting myself to this place? It's time that it ends. It's the end and the beginning.

Newbie in IN with a question

at 5'5" and 300, your BMI is about 49.9. it has to be at least 40 for insurance to cover you without other medical conditions caused by your weight. i'm sure you will research surgery with the thoughts of getting pregnant before and after. and, doctors will have some good advice for you, also. good luck
  20. Hi I've been reading this forum for awhile however, this is my first post. I would like to ask everyone this: How did you decide between gastric bypass surgery and lap band surgery? I realize the risks are greatly increased with GBPS than with lap band, however, after reading so many posts, I am more confused than ever. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks for your insight and help with your experience.

    Lapband surgery vs GBPS

i'm like a lot of people here. i've been dieting for decades. at 48, i am petrified if i go into menopause at this weight (215/5'6") i'll never lose it. the post op page is full of people who have issues with "fill" and slippage and spouts in the wrong place or wrong angle, with hunger issues and throwing up and 4 weeks of liquid dieting. and it promises you 1-2 pounds a week. WW promises you that and you can eat. i think if i'm going to have surgery, i want faster weight loss. i'm grateful for the candor with the downsides that we all need to know about to make educated decisions. that's why we are here reading. i've thought about this -- i know that gastric bypass has higher risk, higher results? overall, permanent. and i know the disadvantages of being permanent. i told my friend, i want to get sick if i eat what i'm not supposed to eat. i want it to be a metabolic change. i think i need that. she said "get gastric bypass surgery - my friend did it and lost 100 and now she hates to eat." perfect, i thought. i am a carbaholic to a detrimental extent. if i'm hungry and can't think of what to eat - carbs. when i'm sick, all that appeals to me is carbs. when i exercise, all i want is carbs -although i admit protien tastes best then. there are too many times when most Proteins make me sick to my stomach. Unless carbs make me sick, i can't think of any other way i'd be able to stop eating them. in 1981 (193 - 139) and again in 1993 (pregnancy 225 - 185) i was successful on Physician's Weight Loss Center "system 4" original 700 calorie ketogenic diet. supplemented with 2 protien drinks a day, it was an extrememly limiting food list. but at least it was food. would you believe i'm thinking if i can do this pre op surgery thing, i can certainly do PWLC. but then again, i need to lose 80 pounds this time. the most i ever lost with them was 54 pounds in 1982 when i was 22 years old. 14 weeks x 4 pounds a week - it was the toughest diet i'd ever been on and the rapid success kept me motivated. and it was amazing. i can't do this for 80 pounds. i really don't think i can. now what??? i'm still reading and thinking and reading. i'll post again.
