    Gout

Just thought I'd report back what I know. Doc thinks its pseudogout, since my toe is not red and puffy. I looked it up online, due to calcium crystal deposits and usually underlying medical conditions, I have hypothyroidism. So we did an x-ray & blood work which I will get the results on next week. She did start me on cholchicine which works on any type of crystals in the joints. No relief as yet……

    Gout

I am 10 mos out and have just developed gout!! It's very painful! Has anyone else had this happen? All the pre-surgery conditions contributed; obesity, high cholesterol, then a low calorie diet now adds to it. I have been trying a natural treatment, herbs and vitamins, but no relief yet. ! I am seeing a rheumatologist tomorrow for some meds.

    I'm struggling

I am struggling too. I am going through a divorce, and it seems the stress makes it harder to eat the right stuff. I can tolerate veggies, but not meat, so I do that. I always get my protein shakes in, so I make that quota daily. I also do a spin class at least once a week, but I am stuck to where I was right after surgery. I don't want another fill since I can't get much down now. So I guess journaling food intake is the best way to see where we're going wrong. I am trying not to beat myself up with all that I am going through right now, figuring once the stress passes, I can deal with more of the food issues. But it would be nice to see the scale move below 200! I am not where I hoped I would be for the summer bathing suit season!
  4. I had the same problem after surgery. My trainer thought it was blood sugar related also and suggested Gatorade when it hit me. I don’t think it did, just taking a few minutes to recover did. I am 8 mos post-op now and have no problems with it anymore. I think it was some kind of body adjustment to surgery or calorie reduction. Good luck with it!
  5. I am concerned about this too. I had no hunger after 3 fill until about 6 weeks ago. I got a 4th fill to bring me up to 7cc's in a 10cc Realize band. I have some restriction, but still hunger! I really have not lost any weight since the liquid diet post surgery! Even though I started excercising - a Spin class! I have lost some inches, but no weight. I am afraid I will "max out" my band before that happens!
  6. I am 5 mos out now and I think, basically overnight my hair loss has finally slowed! I will cut my hair shorter in the next month in hopes that it will start to grow back and be thicker again!
  7. From day one I have gotten almost 100g of protein and have taken biotin, my hair started falling out 2 mos post-op and I am going on 4 mos post-op and it has not stopped! It is very concerning. I read on the internet it may be tied to low iron, so I am going to have that checked today when I go to to the doc. I am already on thyroid meds and take everything religiously. I am thinking I will have to cut my hair short IF and WHEN it decides to start growing back. So with all the precautions I have taken, it's got to be related to just "surgery". Good luck to everyone!

    September bandsters

I was banded on 9/9 and lost 20 pounds in the first two weeks, then nothing for 10 weeks! Even after I fill! I just had a second fill this week, no restriction, but I'm up to 5cc's in a 10cc band, so I hope it will start to do something. It is discouraging, but eating less and loosing inches exercising. Just trying to keep looking forward!

    Very Discouraged :(

I know the feeling of not losing - I lost 20 pounds the first two weeks post-op and nothing since! I too was discouraged, but read posts that until you reach your sweet spots, it's a slow process. I have only had one fill and noticed no difference. Another fill next week. BUT I have been exercising and am losing inches - so I'll take that! It is a slow process and we are getting healthier, so you have to look at the big picture and celebrate any victories you have! And above all else - I am not gaining weight! LOL!

Why is my hair falling out?

I was 2 months post-op and my hair started falling out. It has to be the stress of surgery only. I have taken Biotin from day one and get over 90g of protein a day. I am waiting for it to stop, around 4 mos it sounds like! I also just started "hair & nails" vitamins, they help it grow faster I have found, so maybe replacement hair will be sooner! It almost seems to hit us "slow loosers" more! Good luck to everyone!

    Hi from Michigan

Hi Ladies, My sister is in Kazoo and interested in getting banded too! Can you each tell me who your doctor is and where you go for fills? I told her going to Mexico would be cheapest, but she has questions on the pre-surgery stuff and follow up. thanks,

    Dizzy

No inner ear infection that I know of. I guess the fluids sound like a good idea, and gatorade. I will try that - Thxs!

    Dizzy

Hi, I am 3 weeks post-op and the last two days I notice I am dizzy at times. When I lay down to sleep, I get the spins or after exercising. Has anyone else had this? I do not have high blood pressure and stopped taking my metaformin, since I barely eat any carbs now. So I don't think it's low blood sugar. I have never had this happen before! Thanks for any help!:cursing:

    Help!

I am glad somebody posted this, I was feeling the same! I am between 800-1200 calories on a given day and I've gained two pounds, just adding soft food now! Very depressing! I guess I haven't found the right balance yet!
  16. I see you are in MI - my sis is in Kazoo looking for a good doc for banding - can you recommend anyone? My bowels are just loose, I had diarrhea one day. Good luck!

    Sept. Samurai Surgery Check-in

Hi, Just checking in, had surgery 9/9. 4 days out got nauseas and finally threw up once, never could figure out why, but no problems since. Just port side sore and back spasms from protecting that side. Took two weeks off of work. I love the protein shakes after having done Medifast so many times! Real food scares me! Good luck to everyone!

    Brief first 7 days description?

I was banded 7 days ago, but I'm not as young as the other poster. It hit me harder than expected. I am still sore, hurts to get up from sitting or bending. I still have trouble sleeping in a bed, prefer the recliner. The liquid diet is easy. I only too pain meds for two days. I did get nauseous 4 days out and finally threw up once. I walk everyday. My back hurts me as much as my port side really.
  19. Let us know how it all goes! I have to go back next week, but was able to take 2 wks off. I still have trouble getting up from sitting and drinking all the liquids makes it rough, you have to get up to go to the bathroom a lot! I think it'll be harder to be on the pureed food to go back, having to have all that with you. I don't know about you, but my back is killing me from protecting my port side, it's still sore. Best of luck to you!
  20. Haven't had any problems before this! First thought I needed to eat, so I had a protein shake, and took some meds the doc gave me - in case I felt this. Then felt the wave hit me again. Ran to the bathroom to fight it off, swallowed, rinsed my face and fought it down. I am so afraid to throw up! Why is it hitting me now? Thanks for any advice!

4 days out - First time Nausea

:regular_smile:Thanks for all the replies! I don't know what it was, not taking pain meds anymore or then. I took the anti-nausea meds twice that day, but still threw up, foamy water that night, then fine. Haven't had the problem since. Probably won't figure out what set it off, just don't want it again!

    Hiatal Hernia repair

I had my hiatial hernia repaired on 9/9/08 when I was banded. It did make the surgery a little longer. It's a genetic condition for me; my dad had it - never made it through a meal without throwing up! Both my brother and my sister have it also. I never had heartburn, but my throat closed up and I couldn't swallow food, from scarring from the acid coming out of my stomach. My esophagus had to be stretched out and I was put on Prevacid for life. So I am glad to be off that med. And well worth the repair not to get esophageal cancer!

    thyroid meds

My doc told me the meds were based on weight and I would need to decrease my amount. Hope that helps
  24. I am also newly banded on Tues, 9/9. I had my hiatial hernia repaired, so I think that adds to the tightness in my chest, as I have it also. I am also an asmatic. I take my chewable Flintstones and Tums the first thing in the am and then slip on my 50gm protein shake all day to get it done by 3pm and then start with another one to get my 100gms in each day. I also drink other things during the day, broth, Crystal Light and eat SF popsicles to break it up. I also am sleeping in the recliner. Hard to get up out of things, like being pregnant! I need to try the bed as my lower back is bothering me a lot. I also have a cough which is about ripping me apart! I too went thru "why did I do this!" stage and other posts reassured me this is normal, thxs! I also get a lot of gas, burping and take Gas-x but don't see much relief there. Thanks for all the postings to get me thru and looking forward!
