Good luck. Just remember that everything you eat should be moist. This isn't a vegetable but last week I made a mistake of eating a few bites of very dry chicken. I also didn't chew very well( I was in a hurry). Well, I paid for that. It was soooo painful and I just wanted to throw up. It was obviously stuck. I had some drool coming out of my mouth. So I took a few sips of water and walked around a bit. This really helped, although I still had some pain there for the rest of the day so I ate very soft foods and warm liquids for the rest of day. Since them I either put fat free gravy or make sure everything is very moist!

I eat vegetables and have no problems. Others do. I can eat a small salad with romaine lettuce, spinach, tomatoes and cukes. I stay away from raw broccilli and cauliflower. I can eat them cooked. I eat cooked green beans and peas also. I stay away from corn so far. I've only been banded since Sept 17th.

Congrats! I think that is sooo awesome. I have lost 40 pounds since my banding on Sept. 17th. I also have not had a fill and feel the restriction. Is this uncommon? Or are we just lucky!?!

Newly banded in MI
Cardinal55 replied to jenniebear2002's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Jennie! I also live in Michigan in a small town close to Kalamazoo. I lived in Traverse City for many years prior to moving here. My husband and I both worked for the State Hospital at the time and it closed so we transferred down here. He is now retired and I work at Bronson. Anyhow, I was just banded myself on Sept. 18th and am doing well. I am not scheduled for my first fill until Oct. 31st and am a little nervous about that. I will check out your blog site! Take care, LouAnn -
I am 3 weeks post op and doing very well! It does get better trust me. I've already lost 30 pounds(16 with my pre op diet and 14 post op). I was eating so poorly for 10 days I think that's why I lost so quickly. This past week I lost 2 pounds which is about right. I'm one of the lucky ones who already feels the restriction. I can't eat more then an 1/2 cup of food for my meals......... I don't get hungry until it is meal time. That is so awesome to me. My surgeon told me every one is different, some feel the restriction right away and don't need a fill for a few months, others are hungry still. This truly is the best think I have ever done for myself!:tt1: Today I started walking more and walked a mile but my legs got all wobbly so I guess I have got to build some stamina back up as I was walking 2 miles a day before my surgery. After 6 weeks I will rejoin Curves and start a more vigorous excerise routine.

Yes, this is normal. I did still had nausea and that tightness until about 8 days post op. The pain in your shoulders is gas and walking helps the best for that. I was only consuming about 500 calories aday until about my 10th day post op. Everyone is different but what you are experiencing is not uncommon. Of course, if you are concerned you need to speak with your surgeon and/or his/her nurse. Good luck on you venture. It is truly worth it!

Will I ever be able to lay down in my bed again?
Cardinal55 replied to sash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, you will be able to lay down. I had a lot of pain and burning and once I thought my port had moved(it hadn't) I was able to be more comfortable after about a week, but even after 2 weeks I still had some burning at times. I'm now 3 weeks postop and it is so much better. If it continues to bother you after a few more days, call your surgeon's office. I'm so glad I've had my band done. I've already lost 28 pounds (combo pre surgical diet and what I have lost post op) and feel so much better already. So will you! -
Newbie from chicago: HI!
Cardinal55 replied to jeemee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Great advice Restless Monkey and welcome newbie. You don't have to stay with this surgeon. shop around. He/she can't be the only one. Talk to others in your area who are banded and see what their experiences have been. Good luck -
Okay, what are these "pb"s I keep hearing about?
Cardinal55 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep reading about gagging and slime and pb's? Ya all make it sound like having a band is an awful thing. I was banded 12 days ago and after reading some these posts I'm wondering about my decision to have it done! -

Thanks so much! This is very helpful. I knew that could happen. I just didn't know what pb meant. -
Why Don't We Give A Little Update Where We're At
Cardinal55 replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good for you bringing your protein shake to your birthday party! I was just banded last Thursday Sept 18th, Friday was a breeze but Saturday was a rough day. Lots of gas. Don't think you will weigh less when you get home fromt the hospital. I weighed 9 pounds more! From the 4000 cc of IV fluids they pumped into me as I had to be NPO until then next day. Today I've lost those 9 pounds plus a few more. My surgeon is big on fluids, so I came home before noon the next day only on clear liquids and slowly start on full liquids today for another 10 days to 2 weeks. I'm still sore today but taking Tylenol(liquids) only and that is working. Hang in there! -
Why Don't We Give A Little Update Where We're At
Cardinal55 replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded yesterday September 18th. Doing pretty good. Some pain in neck and shoulder but warm compresses and walking helps a lot! My Surgeon is big on liquids so I lost 16 pounds on my pre op diet, now on clear liquids for 2 days, then full liquids for 10 days, then I start pureed foods. I'm really not hungry at all! It surprises me. Maybe all that gas deters you from feeling hungry! -
Hi! Just wanted to introduce myself. I am scheduled for my band this Thursday 9/18 at noon. Kind of funny having bariatric surgery at lunch time! I have lost 12 pounds on my liquid diet so far. Down from 312 to 300. I wanted to be less then 300 day of surgery so I think I'll make that goal. Just trying to hang in. How long before you were up and about after surgery? I don't want to be laid up too long.....................

Hi! That's great we are having our surgery on the same day! Yes, we can be band buddies.
