    IBS and the Band

I was banded this past January and have had 4 IBS flare-ups with each one getting a little more painful. But I also have severe diverticulosis, so not sure if it is the band causing more problems or not?????? I did ask my surgeon before the surgery about the diverticulosis/IBS becoming worse and he said, there has been no studies done on this issue.:ihih:
  2. I had my surgery Jan. 16, 09 and every fill I get is only 1/2cc, that is it! I go about every 4 - 6 weeks and the doc is very careful about the amount of fills he puts in. I am down 35 pounds.
  3. Has anyone else gone through a COMPLETE Health Exam before the banding? I had to make sure my GYN exam and Colonoscopy were done before the doctor approved the banding! Anybody else had this issue before they were approved?

    symptoms of gall bladder issues

Had my gallbladder out 8 months before I had my Lap Band surgery. The doctor said that my gallbladder had so much scar tissue wrapped around it she thought she was going to have to do an open surgery instead of Laprascopic. Thank God she got it out and I was driving my car the next day! I was at church camp 9 hours from home when the pain hit. It was in the middle of the night and I thought I was going to die! My roomate got up and tried to comfort me and I told her to go back to bed, I would die in peace! LOL The pain under my chest was worse than child birth, couldn't even sit up!!!! OMG! Never would wish that on anybody!
  5. I too am tricare and I am 5'4" 237, and was accepted at the base in Dayton. Only needed Psych, dietician, ekg, blood and that was it! Banded Jan 16, 2009, have lost 34lbs so far............

Anyone banded around the Dayton area?

Hi Amie, I was banded at Wright Pat on January 16, 09. I have Dr. Dock. I really like him a lot and I have not heard of any complaints about him. There are two Lap Band docs but can't remember what the other doctors name is, sorry! I live in Franklin Township which is about a 40 minute drive to Wright Pat. We use the base hospital for all of our medical issues and have never had problems there. I found out at one of the Lap Band meetings and Dr. Dock was the speaker that they don't do tummy tucks, which I want done eventually. But, they will do them if you pay for it. hmmmmm, have to check that out, when I have my weight off. Dr. Dock does my fills and he goes SLOW at this, 1/2cc at a time, that is it!!! I think I am up to 2cc right now and doing okay, still not at the sweet spot thou. Good luck on your move and maybe we can meet someday! Jan
  7. The first three times I had a fill my doctor used the lidocaine but this last time (Monday, May 11) he used a spray freezing stuff and that was it. I really don't think I need that either but that is how he does it. I didn't have any pain meds after surgery at all, could not believe how great I felt!!!!!!!!!!! Had gallbladder surgery last year and only took one pain pill the whole recovery time!
  8. Has anyone else been stuck at a certain weight for 30 days with no moving on the scale? I was banded on Jan. 16, 09 and have lost 30lbs. but that's it! I have not lost anymore weight for over 4 weeks now. I am going in for another fill this Monday, that will make it 2cc. The surgeon is going VERY slow with the fills. I am just getting a little irritated with the slow weight loss. I do go to the YMCA, but haven't gone in over a week (putting in new flower beds, and yard work are ENOUGH for me at the end of the day)! My future daughter-in-law wants to get married in my backyard by the pond so I have been working my BUTT off digging and planting, but my weight won't budge!!!!! Yes, I do drink my water.........

30 day freeze on weight loss

Thanks to all for your "HELP" in my freeze on weight loss. At least I know I am not alone in this battle! My first 30lbs were also from dieting NOT from the BAND!!! Come Monday morning at 8:00am I will diffently ask for a fill. Like I said he only puts in 1/2cc each visit, that is the way he does it and he won't change! I can't conplain as the band only cost me $15.00! Thank you Tricare!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Hi all, I am in the same boat, banded on Jan. 16th with only 1 1/2 cc in my band, have had only 2 fills. I WANT RESTRICTION, and am NOT getting it!!! :wink2:  Everytime I go see the surgeon I tell him that I have NO RESTRICTION, I am beginning to wonder if he speaks ENGLISH????? I am eating more and more and have gained back 3lbs this past week. I am getting MAD!

    Do you still feel hungry?

I am like a few other people on this thread, I don't get it either! I have a 10cc band with 2 fills, first one was 1cc and the second one was 1/2cc, the doc wants to take it slowwww! OMG! My feeling is I can eat a lot to finally feel full from the band. My saying I eat a lot, I mean I can sit down and eat a 4oz burger (no bread, it gets stuck) and maybe some sliced tomatoes, pickles, fruit cup! Isn't that a lot for someone who has a lapband????? I have lost 30lbs since Jan. but I have been stuck at this weight for about 3 weeks, I am getting very upset. I want more of a fill and doc won't do it. My breakfast is 1 cup cereal, 1 cup milk and whole banana and then I am hungry by 11:00am. By 3:30 I am wanting supper after eating a good size meal for lunch, I am scared I have stretched my pouch out. Any ideas on what I can do about feeling so hungry all the time.
  14. Hi Restless Monkey, I have a question for you. If they don't put an incission over the area where the band is at then why do I have one right in the middle of my belly right below my chest bone, clear up by my breast? I had 5 incissions, with a 10cc lap band.

    anyone tried laser lipo?

I have never heard of this either??? I am going to have a TT as soon as this weight is off. I did not have to pay for my lap band so the money will be put toward having my "apron of 35 years) :cursing:removed!!!!! It is so ugly and I am sick of seeing it in the mirror and seeing it through my bathing suit!

    Tricare Prime and Lap Band

Tricare Prime here. My husband is retired AF and we live in the Dayton area. Had my surgery done at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton and the only thing it cost me was $15.00, that was because I had to spend the night (sleep apenea) that was the rules otherwise could have gone home same day! Needed NO pain meds at home or in the hospital, no other cost, besides $12.00 copay for Psych eval. Went to nutritionist on base and had EKG, lab, chest xray done on base, no other test needed! So for $27.00 my band is paid for!:sneaky:

    Out Patient or overnight stay?

Had to stay over night as I have sleep Apnea, with a CPAP machine. Had to bring machine with me and use it at the hospital. Nurses talked and laughed all night so it would have been better to go HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Ohio region

Hi Kim, I too was banded by WPAFB on Jan 16,09. I live down around Franklin. I am not working at this time. I agree with you about info at WPAFB, I don't even know what type of band and how big it is?? I had my first fill in March and I am starving more now than before the fill, not sure what that is about. I go back next Monday for second fill, hopefully I will feel some restriction!!! I have lost around 30 lbs since pre-op and doing okay but just have to watch amount of food since I feel like I could sit down and eat as much as I wanted, scary..... My husband is retired AF and had 25 years in. Fourteen years out in the civilian world. We sure miss the military life...Have one son and one granddauther. I sing with an International Chorus over in Centerville on Tuesday nights, we have a lot of fun and heading to competition in Oct, 09. Take care and hope to hear from you....Jan

Apnea and will NOT use Cpap

I am another CPAP lover. I have had mine since May 08 and can't get over the difference it has made in my life! I have Obstructive Sleep Apenea. Yes, I was a little upset about wearing it at first, but now it goes everywhere I go, New Orleans to work on Katrina damage, vacations, camp, etc.... wouldn't leave home without it. So now there are 3 of us in bed, myself, DH, and CPAP, isn't life grand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, yes, I did have to bring it with me to have surgery for band. My setting is 9, not sure if that is high or not????? Anybody have an answer?

  25. Has anybody had any trouble with constipation and diverticulosis and their Lap Band. I had my band put on 8 weeks ago and I have had 2 rounds of PAIN with diverticulosis. I did ask my surgeon about this and he said there has never been a study to see if the band makes this problem worse. I have a Servere case of it and need some answers quick! It is NOT diverticulitus, it is LOSIS:cursing:. Sorry to be sooo graffic but my colon looks like Swiss Cheese, full of holes.............
