Why Don't We Give A Little Update Where We're At
AnatolyM replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yesterday was two weeks since the surgery, and I am still on the liquid diet. Alas today I had a rare treat -- we bought a takeout in Indian restaurant and I had some. Loved it! I will have my first fill on Nov 7, it will be 6 weeks after the band. I am already looking forward to it, as the last three days did not bring any weight loss. At the same time, having experienced the stomach swollen shut two days after the surgery, I am a bit uneasy about the fill, but now I know the routine and will recognize if anything wrong much faster. Best wishes, -am -
Did anyone start any light exercises already (besides prescribed 'walking 3 miles a day')? I forgot to ask my doctor in a 1-week post surgery check-up and could not recall what he had said about it before. I feel like playing a bit of ping-pong, tennis, or even jogging, but have no idea when it is advisable to start. Is 12 days after surgery too early? Best wishes to us all, -am

The exact same thing happened to me. I could not drink even a sip of water on my 3rd and 4th days after the surgery and spent the 5th day in ER getting IV fluids. Then the surgeon unfilled some of the liquid and that resolved it... The only question I had - was it so necessary to put in saline to the band right at the surgery time? Why wouldn't one be allowed time to recover first? Oh well, this is all 5 day old story -- and I feel oh so much better now, soreness is gone, no pains. Do not worry, you will get better soon. But be angry at the surgeon - there is really no reason for this thing to be happening. And best wishes to all of us.

3 days post-op: my experience

Day 4... Spent a night in ER, got IV fluids. Surgeon arrived 9am and unfilled the band. Liquids are going in easy now. I am much happier. -
3 days post-op: my experience
AnatolyM replied to Cleo's Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Banded on 09/24. In retrospective - I had a pretty nice day on 25th, was able to drink all I wanted, even a vitaminized shake. It all changed on the third day: Yesterday, the third day after surgery I was able to push down only 300ml (a glass) or Water (stomach was swollen shut most part of the day). Today, over the whole day of efforts I pushed and retained only about 500ml. My surgeon told me over the phone it will get easier, as long as the stomach is not shut completely - the swelling will be gone and it will re-open, but I am already dehydrated and not feeling well. I did not have anything to eat over this last two days, but this seems to be so unimportant - I am only thirsty. I did not have my medications either since nothing comes in. If I cannot drink and hold water tomorrow morning I am going to the ER. Guess the doctor wanted to pump too much liquid in during the surgery... Why? What's the hurry? Give me a chance to recover from the surgery before re-enforcing the band. Best wishes to all of us, -am -

I was banded on Sep 24, and the first day and the day after were not too comfortable yet they were ok. Today is the third day and I cannot push down even a sip of Water. Nothing - since the time I woke up. I called my doctor he said it happens sometimes if the stomach gets irritated and swollen and suggested to wait 4-5 hours and only then try to get a sip of water again. If swelling does not go away, he is going to remove some saline. Sigh... I thought that the first day would be the most difficult one. -am -
Yesterday I was sore, yet I had no problem in holding liquids down -- but this morning it became much worse. I cannot push down even a sip of water... Guess I will be calling my surgeon soon, I am not freaking out yet, but pretty close to that.

What is your surgery date? Let's keep a list.

I got banded this morning. It still hurts, but not terribly so - I can walk, sleep, think. Yet it is very unpleasant -- feels like a gastritis, when a usual remedy is to eat something... but I should not, at least the first day should be clear liquids only according to my surgeon. The surgery itself was pretty uneventful - I was asleep. :girl_hug: Best wishes to us all, -am -

Hi all, Count me in -- I will be banded on September 24, two days after my b-day -- wanted to have a final unrestricted b-day party. I was surprised to see that many doctors recommended (or even required?) dieting before the band -- mine did not request anything in particular, except the last 24 hours. Best wishes to us all :-) -A. -
I'm NYC JPMC employee with Aetna HMO in NJ -- band was approved after ~3 month waiting and other required consultations/etc. My surgery is the next week. Good luck to you.

Questions, Questions, Questions!
AnatolyM replied to LPN2B's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
According to the post here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f99/good-luck-shortgal-71747/ it is a sad story -- she had it removed because of a rare lapband complication. And it was not intended at all -- she actually planned to have band re-locked surgically, and found out that it had to be removed instead after waking up... -
Getting band done on 09/24
AnatolyM replied to AnatolyM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks! Yes, I had 'port' in mind. I already feel somewhat better that i started to see that only a very, very few people had band not working. I am going to make all the efforts to make it work -- having done Atkins before (and very successfully until I was not doing it...) I am not afraid of life on high Proteins / low carbs. By the way - am I gonna be in Ketosis when on the post-surgery diet? Did it happen to anyone here? -A. -
Hi there, i am new to this forum. I did everything required by the insurance (Aetna) - it took some time as my first visit to the info session was in May and then I had to collect a small pile of papers. But it is all done, Aetna approved, and it is scheduled... Recently I started to read forums here and at OCC, and... oh well... I started to feel nervous and getting cold feet about this whole thing. A sizable minority complained it did not help them. Many said plug was sore for a long time. Any words of wizdom from the forum?
