  1. Hi Tynisha! I don’t focus much on carbs, but I try to not go overboard. I eat crackers or a tiny PB&J as a snack most days and may have some oven roasted potatoes with protein for dinner. And I drink whole milk. What has been really important for me is making sure to eat three balanced meals a day, hitting my protein goal (around 110-120 grams daily). I have to have a protein shake or two with milk to get there. If you find you are eating too many carbs, it’s probably because you are snacking too much. If you focus on balanced meals and up your protein goal, you won’t be hungry/want to snack. Veggies and milk aren’t a big impact on carb intake, and help you feel full. Another good way to sneak in more protein is Greek yogurt. I like Oikos mixed berry. Fairly low on carbs/sugars and 15 grams of protein. Basically make sure you are getting enough protein, focus on feeling full from good food, and try to limit snacking. Has worked for me, and I’m still slowly losing weight almost 9 months later. Oh, and work out with weights. Since working out 3 days a week, my body composition has changed quite a bit. Best of luck! Dave
  2. Hi Angela, I had gastric sleeve in Aug 2023, and had an itchy rash on my chest and stomach about 3 weeks later. I consulted my surgeon’s office, and they thought it was hives or a reaction to medication. They recommended I stop taking my new multivitamin. After two weeks of itching, I had some prescription antifungal cream and applied it just trying to get some relief. It went away immediately. Just had some sort of skin fungal infection. I’ve never had that before…just althlete’s foot. But I’m guessing our bodies go through some trauma after surgery and have a weakened immune system. I’m sure your doc can write you a script. Worth trying. Oh, and since others are updating, I am down 70 lbs. I need to exercise more than the occasional walk. Honestly this has been pretty easy for me, I’ve been able to tolerate a wide variety of food and adjusted well.
  3. Doing well here! Down almost 60lbs, but like some others I have added a few too many carbs. I am still losing weight consistently and feel good but need to clean things up after Thanksgiving. Oh, I tried some fried chicken and fries a while back. My new stomach DOES NOT like fried food.
  4. Well you are making good progress! You could try a small amount of grains that support your protein intake. Just a little white rice in a protein /soft veggie mixture, or part of a low carb flour tortilla with chicken/beef and some toppings. A lame soft taco but very filling and a full meal for me. I use rotisserie chicken or a carne asada mix from Sprouts. I cook the carne asada until it’s falling apart. For Iiquids, I drink coffee in the morning and eat a couple of meals spaced out through the day. Water here and there. Then in late afternoon, I focus on drinking water steadily until bedtime. I end up drinking 3-4 refills of my 24oz Stanley bottle and feel great. I don’t drink a lot of water until I’m out of my eating window. And it helps me feel fuller in the evening.
  5. Hi, I’ve also been slow but steady. I’m down 46 lbs, started at 345. I had some hives week 2, but those went away. No other issues. The diet has been easy to adjust to. I’ve even gone back to coffee every morning, just less. Helps with #2! I find myself eating a lot of Greek yogurt because it’s easiest on my stomach but high in protein. Rotisserie chicken, stewed sirloin chunks, salads, eggs and bacon.
  6. Hi, I had gastric sleeve on 8/17 and developed an itchy hives rash on my chest, back and butt around 2 weeks after. I still have them, but it has slowly gotten better. My bariatric office had no concrete answers. I think my bariatric multivitamin chew may be the culprit. High in niacin B3…I may be having a reaction. I stopped taking them a few days ago and started to get a little better. I have had the random skin infection in the past, but nothing like this. Unfortunately I have no answers.
  7. I had gastric sleeve on Thursday. The first few hours after were rough, but by discharge on Friday morning I was feeling much better. Today, my body started expelling all the gas and I was immediately rid of the bloating and mild pain when sipping water. I’m walking around just fine. The only issue is a bit of lingering pain in the larger stapled hole on my left side. Everything else is good. I sipped on some broth and am not having trouble sipping water frequently. I have to admit, I am in less pain than I thought at this early point. Hope everyone else is seeing strong improvements!

  9. I just had gastric sleeve yesterday. Sipping water and tried some jello. I can do small sips, so happy with that. Hoping to be discharged in the next hour.

  14. It’s the right choice, especially if you have come this far. I have two co-workers who have had bariatric surgery, one lost 200 lbs the other 140. A week or so after surgery, things really start to improve. I have heard there are some tough times the first few days after surgery, but those moments are fleeting. Just stay busy, and keep telling yourself pain is momentary, victory is forever!
  15. Hi, I am 8/17 and 3 days into the liquid diet. First day was a little rough, but I’m doing well now. No real side effects, other than I am super hydrated and pee a lot..lol. I went and got pho broth and have been surviving on that and protein shakes. Hope it gets a little better for you!
  16. Good luck, 3 days isn’t so bad. I start the liquid diet on Thursday for a week. I quit coffee this week in preparation. That has been easier than I thought. Im nervous about the surgery, but know it’s a game-changer in the long run.

  18. Hi all, Im Dave and I am scheduled for a gastric sleeve on Aug 17th in the Kansas City, MO area. I start the liquid diet next Thursday the 10th. My insurance made me go through the 3 months worth of appointments prior to scheduling, so I feel like I am pretty well informed and ready to go. Best of luck to everyone in the waiting pool!
