I have been addicted to diet soda for years. For a while it is all I would drink. I have finally kicked the habit and I now drink water flavored with Mio sweet tea I find it very refreshing. My question is this: I have been told over and over, "Stop drinking soda and you will lose more weight!" So I did and I rarely drink soda. I think it has been over a week since I even had 1/2 a can. I'm wondering when I am going to see this weight loss people keep telling me i'll see when I ditch the soda and drank more water. Thanks for your input :-)

LOL, I'm a nurse too and I know better too, but that doesn't stop me. My pouch is ok I had it checked for slippage last year. My esophagus is slightly dilated, but other wise I'm good. I rarely drink the soda anymore and it doesn't rase as good as it use to. I love my Mio tea and water. It has the good sweetener in it, so I am trying to be good.

I agree as well. Even though stress really jump started it, it has stayed off and is still coming off slowly.

I'm excited and nervous. My BMI is down to 28.91 or something like that. I am losing slowly and only fluctuating a couple of lbs. I am able to do things now that I couldn't do when I was heavy. I started at a size 18-20 and am now a size 10. Someday I will be a size 6 :-) I started at 206lbs and my goal is to be 120 lbs.

New But Not Really

Thank you. I know I have lost but I can't say that its been the way that it was intended, but I want to hit my goal weight. I am tumbling again and some day I will perform as an all star cheerleader. I would love to perform as a flier, not because I have always wanted to be a flier but because they can put me up, lol. I have always wanted to perform as an allstar cheerleader as well, I know I am getting older but I WILL be an allstar cheerleader for at least 1 season. being back on the board might help me stay on track. -
I've been gone a while. I have been discouraged because I wasn't losing and apparently my doc gave me a 10cc band but told me that I had a 4 cc band. I was filled under floroscopy a couple of years ago and haven't needed a fill since. I actually though that I would need a slight unfill cuz I was having such issues with everything I ate. I got through it and I am doing ok now. I also went through a spell where I wasn't eating too well, but I am on the right track and hopefully going in the right direction. They actually brought me in to make sure that my band didn't slip, it didn't and away I went. I am eating better and hoping for more loss soon. 8 days post op This was taken in August about 6 years and 5 months after surgery.

New But Not Really

Thank you, I will try to post often. I know I could use support, I just don't know how much support I can be since I'm not so good when it comes to food. -

Just in case anyone needed to know, Surgical bariatric associates in Syracuse will do fills. They are going to be doing them in the office as well as under Fluro. If anyone is interested in the number just let me know and I will post it. I am also doing a support group June 14th in the building where they are located. PM me about that if anyone is interested in that as well. On a sad note, my DR., Dr. Munshi told me that he is leaving at the end of August :cry . It won't be a problem for me to get my fills because the other 2 MD's plus the PA will be doing fills as well. It is just a sad thing.

I have seen threads for various months, but I never saw one for March 2006. I was banded on March 16, 2006. I was the first of 2 that my doc did that day, and we remain the only 2 for now. The others are still getting their stuff together and waiting for insurance approvals.

Gone For Good Club - September 2006
MiaHalliwell replied to HeatherGurl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Can I ask why there are 2 threads for this? Is this the updated thread? I noticed that my stats have been corrected. I'm in no matter where we post!!! My goal for this month is to hit at least 179. I want OUT of the 180's! Good luck everyone! -
Hello everyone, I can't believe it is september already! As always I had a change on thursday. I dropped to 185 lbs. That puts me down 2 lbs from what it says on the first post. I don't care if it isn't updated until next week, I am just sayin'

I have just had my 3rd fill and I am up to 2.6 cc's in my 4 cc band. I have a little restriction but not enough. I don't swell from fills which bums me out a little, but oh well. I still have to wait 2 weeks before I get another fill and it took my 7 weeks to get this one because my MD couldn't figure out how they wanted to do it, in the office or under floro. They also had to get the supplies into the office. Finaly, they did end up putting .5 cc in my band. I have gained a couple of pounds back, but it could be fluid retention because my ankles and calves are swollen. I know that I have heard that a fill can spontaneously make you have restriction weeks after the fill, but if there is no initial swelling then why can't I feel it now? is there anyone else that doesn't swell that has gotten a fill and didn't feel a change right away? Did you feel restriction a week or 2 after your fill? Just wondering. I am really upset about the weight gain because I know how much I normally fluctuate and this is actual gain. :cry

I am one who gains during and loses it after, so there could be some truth to it. -
3 fills and still not enough restriction
MiaHalliwell replied to MiaHalliwell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow! I wonder if I will have to go over 4cc's to get restriction. I have had my 4th fill and am at 3.1 cc's and I think I am just about there. I am getting satisfied with less food. I am getting there. -

No changefor me this week. Aunt flo is visiting and I won't lose until after it is over. -
Ok, here is the deal. I was the first patient to have my lap band placed by my doctor. He was awsome! He always asked my opinion and input on what was going on. Sadly, he is leaving at the end of the month. The NP in the office, whom I absolutely love, set me up with one of the other doctors in the practice. He is also new at the lap band thing. He gave me my 3rd fill and it went fairly well since it was the first time doing it in the office. It only took him 2 times to hit the center of my port. I called yesterday and got in for today to get another fill. He came in the room with 2 residents with out asking if it were ok. They each felt my port. It feels like a bruise when he touches it. He got ready and before he cleaned my skin I pointed to the spot that he used last time and I said "right here where this spot is, is where you got it last time." He didn't say anything and cleaned my skin and then poke 1, he missed, poke 2 and 3 he missed. It stung soooo bad when he wasn't over the port. Poke 4 he completely missed and I could feel it go past the port and said something. Poke 5 still not right and he said that I had the scar there and that could be why it stung so bad. At that point I realized that he was near my scar and not down low enough. Poke 6 he hit it good enough and drew back fluid and then added my new 1/2 a cc. I looked at my stomach and I was right that he was right under the scar about a good inch away from the small scab from 2 weeks ago. I asked for a bandaid because my stomach looked like mince meat. He put a steri strip over it. As he tried to explain the steri strip I looked at him and said, "Do you know that I am a nurse?" He told me no with kind of a shocked look on his face. He asked me a few questions about that and then he and 1 of the others left the room while the other one listened to my stomach, heart and lungs. I was very upset as I thought about the situation. I didn't say anything but I am thinking of telling the NP when I call her tomorrow. Would anyone else be upset at the lact of personal attention? He didn't even listen when I pointed and told him where he got me last time. Maybe I am just blowing this out of perportion but he could have nicked my tubing. I don't know, but thanks for reading (listening) Hugs everyone!

I don't really need it because when they do it right it isn't that bad. When they are not over the port it stings. At least it does for me.

Whippledaddy Has Passed Away
MiaHalliwell replied to lapbander081004's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I didn't know him but my heart goes out to his wife and family. He sounds like a special person. May he rest in piece. My prayers go out to his family. -
I asked the NP about the possibility of damaging my tubing and she told me that the needle is designed so that it doesn't actually poke. I forget how it actually works because I didn't hear it all. My kids were being loud when I was talking to her. If you looke at the tip of the needle it has a curve to it. It is the same thing with the needles to access implaned ports for IV medications. Still I worry because I have never been sore after a fill. The fact that he was pushing and pressing on my port has to be a factor as well, but regardless he will not be touching me again!

I am pretty sore and a bit swollen. At least there is no bruise. The NP is trained to do fills, I am going to either beg her to do it next time or have the other doctor. I would have said something sooner but I didn't realize till the end how far up he was. Here is a pic. You can see most of the pokes up near my scar and down at the bottom you can see 2 spots 1 on top of the other, that is where he should have poked me. The bottom one was where he was dead on. I just talked to the NP and she said that she would do it next time. She said that he was probably distracted by the other guys. I say thats no excuse, but she said that he is a good guy and wouldn't hurt me like that on purpose, but he won't be doing my fills anymore.
