I'm home from the hospital now! Pain and nausea are present but manageable. The doctor gave me a medication to calm the stomach spasms I was having every time I drank something! I haven't started drinking protein yet. Jello feels like a rock in my tummy so they said to hold off on the protein until the nausea has eased and I feel ready to try something denser than water. The best thing by far has been popsicles!!

Thank you everyone!! Surgery went well and Im in my room now... We are having a hart time controlling my pain and nausea, not unusual for me. Water is going down relatively easy though... I'll be here at least overnight!

    Pain after surgery?

So glad to hear things have shifted some!! I think some people's bodies have a hard time absorbing the gas used during surgery. It'll dissipate in time but sometimes it takes forever!! Yay for 11 lbs down in 6 days, that's amazing!
  4. Yeah, it's expensive. That's why we often make our own. Honestly you may be better off just getting the protein soup from Unjury! They have chicken broth, beef and vegetable, and french onion. I ordered them all because I know me and I know they will be a good way to get a nice hit of protein in during the day when I'm wanting something savory. You can order sample packets from them to test them out before buying the big containers... Most people seem to like the chicken one!

Well, two more sleeps and I'll be in surgery! I spent the day getting everything taken care of in terms of having all my supplies at hand, double checking prep instructions with the doctor's office, washing sheets (supposed to sleep in a clean set the night before. LOL), and bathing with this antibacterial soap I have to use multiple times before and the morning of surgery. One more day of this pre-op diet left! It's getting so close... Sleeping is gonna be hard. LOL

I'm sure you'll be fine, sleeve patients seem to bounce back pretty quickly unless they have complications. I've seen some return after a week off on this forum... ETA: Just no lifting heavy things!! You don't want to mess up those pretty stitches the surgeon worked so hard on... LOL

No, no short term disability application. I'm disabled and don't work outside the home so no need for that! I don't get holiday pajamas but I did have a friend send me some boxes of beautiful clothes after her mother passed away. So once I get down to that size I'll have a full wardrobe which is really exciting!! I love that something sad will be made beautiful again... My closet also includes clothes from about 100 lbs of gain so I'll be wearing everything in reverse as I go down. Shopping my own closet will be an adventure! Plus thrift stores, TJ Maxx, and Ross... Ahhh, I love shopping. 😂

    Any last suggestions?

Good luck to you!! Remember your chapstick. LOL I also bought a double lined stainless steel mug and double lined stainless steel cup so that I could keep a variety of temperatures around, I hate when things go cold/warm when I don't intend them to!
  13. The sugar free popsicles that are pretty low calorie have saved me a few days in my liquid diet. I also like the water flavoring packets (especially the jolly rancher ones because they are sour sweet) because I get tired of drinking plain water. I like to add coffee to some of my protein shakes to cut the sweetness, we aren't supposed to have caffeine on my plan so I've gotten decaf, still does the job flavor wise. Tea helps too. And some people's plans allow for strained soups, so you may want to check yours! I get tired of sugary tastes even if it is fake sugar. Oh and I ordered my Kettle & Fire broth from Thrive Market (and turned off the autoship) because I could get them one at a time to see what I like. But in person at the store is probably easiest!
  14. I'm looking forward to creamy soups too, I have shake fatigue! LOL Two more days, then surgery! I'm having the DS, not the RNY or the Sleeve, I'm extra fringe! 😂

    Pain after surgery?

I'm sorry it is so rough right now! That coupled with the meds and anesthesia are bound to make you cry! Is your pain any easier now? Did you end up having an IV Infusion? I hear those can help a lot when you are struggling to get fluids in... I know this feels really hard but you can do hard things and it will get better! Just hang in there... ❤️

    December Surgery Buddies!

That would be EPIC!! LOL The meetings here are still online too. I have a good friend who is considering the surgery so I've been buying double samples of anything I find and setting aside one of each for her in case she decides to go through with it! But now I really want this world's weirdest potluck!

I'm really grateful for this too! Thank you. ❤️

    December Surgery Buddies!

I just ordered some of the soup flavors from Unjury, I haven't tried them yet. Soon though! My favorite Syntrax so far is the Fuzzy Navel flavor, but that one has sucralose in it. I've been wanting to try one of the Naturals but I hate the aftertaste of a lot of stevia in something. I wish they had samplers of it!

Welcome everyone!! We're getting closer! I'm in my third week of my pre-op diet, 5th day of all shakes. It's not so bad as long as you stay hydrated and use water flavoring packets! My surgery is still Nov. 1st, I'm a little scared they will cancel now that I've been on this diet for so long. 😂 I've started using the antibacterial soap they require we shower with for days before surgery. We even have to sleep on fresh sheets the night before! These surgery requirements make sense but also make me laugh sometimes... LOL

    Non-scale Goals

Hmmm... Mine are: - No more diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and hopefully no more CPAP! - Being able to fit into ANY booth. - Fitting on a plane seat with room to spare and no extender. - Climbing 2 flights of stairs to my apartment without being out of breath and in pain. - Painting my toenails with my knee pulled up beside me. - Walking more than a mile without having to rest. - Walking the mall without having to rest. - Crossing my legs under the table! - No longer being afraid I'm going to break a chair and embarass myself. 💚

    Questions for pre surgery

Kettle & Fire makes a pretty tasty bone broth. They have all different flavors. I'm working my way through them slowly. I bought one box of about 8 different flavors. I think bone broth has more protein in it because it has more collagen from cooking longer? Stock usually cooks for a shorter time? My partner has a long standing argument with a foodie friend about whether bone broth actually exists or is really just stock. It's pretty funny... Personally I think both are tasty!

    October 2023 surgery buddies

Yup, the 3 week stall is real. It varies as to when it strikes you but it seems to get everyone. It is the body recalibrating after surgery to the reduced calories and weight loss. It'll break, sometimes it takes a few weeks to do so, but it will break! Make sure you are all tracking your measurements, often people lose inches but not lbs...

    Welcome SueCaudell!!
  24. I totally understand. Don't be afraid to be the squeaky wheel if you need to be! Once I finished my requirements I had to change the date of my surgery from mid December to ASAP and they were able to move it to Nov. 1st because I told them I needed to have another surgery before the end of the year (shoulder). I started my pre-op diet the next day. LOL A good practice will work with you to the best of their ability...
  25. I don't know the answer to this since I've worn a c-pap for years, so all they needed were my downloads of info showing compliance. I think you should talk to your doctor about your concerns and your timeline restriction. You don't have to hide the fact you lose coverage in the spring. Tell them so they can accommodate you! They may be willing to waive a requirement or give you a shorter time. Good luck!
